JSYK Readers Think Miley Cyrus is a Bad Role Model

miley cyrus ama awards

Miley Cyrus was caught on film reportedly smoking salvia, and when we wrote about the video hitting the Web, and our readers were very vocal about it. While some defended the 18-year-old pop star, many felt the former 'Hannah Montana' actress is making poor choices and not acting like a good role model for her fans.

Over 53 percent of our readers said that Miley was not being smart by smoking the drug, but 30 percent went further by saying they're "over her" altogether. Only 10 percent said her actions were all in good fun. Salvia is legal in the state of California, and when smoked, it can produce hallucinatory effects.

"Just because it is legal, doesn't mean it's good for you!" Leanne said. "Like beer, and smoking cigerettes ... Those ARE LEGAL but people die from them every day. She's just not making the right choice."

"She's dishonoring her family!!!" Lindsay added. "Sure her parents are going through a divorce, and that's gotta be hard, but can't she TRY? I mean it's ridiculous to do that, and let someone video tape it! Miley needs better friends -- ASAP. Even her dad is disappointed in her choices."

"Really girlfriend you are setting a really BAD example for your fans," Chelsea12Chel wrote. "They looked up 2 u. And I wanted they 2 look up 2 u , because you are awesome and a really preaty girl. But now I am going to have 2 set down and think about them looking up 2 u. After you have started SMOKING and doing DRUGS!!!!! You know each day millions of people die from doing that stuff. I really do think you should set down and think your life over. Just Saying."

But not everyone agrees. JSYK reader Jen844R chalks Miley's actions up to being a normal teen. "First of all this stuff she smoked is LEGAL!!" she wrote. "Yes she PLAYED the ROLE as Hannah Montana she ISN'T Hannah Montana so stop comparing to what roll she played. Its riduclous that she is having a huge big deal about this she is 18 yrs old and duh teenagers smoke and do stuff the aren't suppose to do. Their wouldn't be a story about this if it was a average American teenager."

Now that you've heard from your peers, where do you stand? Do you agree that Miley is making bad choices, or do you think she's just behaving like a normal teen? Let us know what you think below.
