Blue Velvet, which made its bones with current District/Mercantile chef Kris Morningstar behind the stoves, officially closed Downtown on September 16th. L.A. Downtown News reports that the restaurant will likely be replaced by something geared to be more appealing for the young-ish tenants of The Flat building it was attached to. Apparently, the U.S.-Asian-fusion lounge drew some complaints from the tenants living above it. It's hard to imagine they'll have Morningstar-caliber talent so closely within reach again anytime soon.
