Upon graduation, Longy students join the ranks of an extended family of musical alumni. Active in all facets of the music world - performance, composition, teaching, administration, and other areas - Longy alumni are known for their musicianship, creativity, and intelligence.
Within the last several years, Longy graduates have gone directly into the ranks of major performing organizations, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, New World Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, and the Zurich Opera House Orchestra. Others have gained entrance to such institutions as Boston University, Indiana University, Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, New England Conservatory, University of Southern California, and other top schools for graduate or further graduate study. Still others are performing-regionally, nationally, or internationally as soloists or ensemble members, teaching in a variety of settings, or defining new ways to integrate their musical interests and abilities into satisfying careers.
Distinguished Alumni Awards
Since 1986, Longy has annually conferred the Distinguished Alumni Award on a former student or students whose contributions to the field have been particularly remarkable. Until the 1980s, Longy's chief credentials were the Diploma or Senior Diploma (Dipl.), the equivalent of today's Undergraduate Diploma, and the Soloist's Diploma (Sol. Dipl.), the equivalent of today's Artist Diploma.
