Match Recap: Arsenal 4-1 Leeds United

With help from a frankly pathetic refereeing performance, Table-toppers Arsenal took all three points against Leeds United at the Emirates.

The Whites put on a very positive display in the beginning, defending well and giving the league leaders little to work with by way of chances. Meanwhile, the likes of Summerville and Sinisterra looked more than dangerous going forward.

But Arsenal were gifted the lead when Gabriel Jesus made the most of minimal contact from Luke Ayling in the penalty area, convincing the referee to point to the spot with VAR nowhere to be found. Jesus took the spot kick and dispatched the ball straight down the middle.

It was a blistering start to the second half for Arsenal, with Ben White doubling the deficit just two minutes after the restart, meeting Martinelli’s cross at the back post with a volley off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net. This goal also went unchecked, despite the preceding throw-in being awarded incorrectly to The Gunners.

Jesus snatched his second less than ten minutes later, finishing a move created by Trossard on the right-hand side.

Rasmus Kristensen grabbed something of a consolation when his deflected strike beat Ramsdale between the sticks, but Granit Xhaka restored Arsenal’s three-goal lead soon after with a looping header having got on the end of Odegaard’s superb cross.
