The Transformers

(thumbnail)
"But mooooom, I asked for Rumble! This is Frenzy!" "That's what the card says, dear, 'Rumble'." "The box is stupid."
  • Ravage / Rumble (Cassette 2-pack, 1984-1986)
  • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns"
  • Known designers: Shinji Aramaki (concept artist)
Rumble was part of the first wave of Transformers toys released in 1984. Originally a Micro Change Microcassette Robo Micross, he transforms into a microcassette that fits into the tape deck compartment of the original Soundwave and Blaster toys. In Hasbro markets, Rumble was only available in a two-pack with Ravage.
The 1984 release of the toy has a foil Decepticon symbol decal on Rumble's robot mode tummy. The 1985 release drops this decal in favor of a rubsign under the cassette-mode's tape-window. The 1986 release switches out his metal feet for plastic feet.
This mold was also used to make Frenzy and Enemy. It can also be repurposed as G1 cartoon Frenzy (which obviously also applies to many of the following toys, so we won't repeat ourselves).

  • Soundwave (Decepticon, 1985/1986)
  • ID number" 17
  • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns"
In Japan, Rumble was originally only available packaged with the much-more-accessory-laden-than-the-Hasbro-version Soundwave. All versions of this toy have a rubsign.

  • Rumble (Cassettetron, 1987)
  • ID number: D-102
  • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns", cassette case
Rumble was finally released on his own in Japan during The Headmasters, in an individual box. Contrary to popular belief, the Cassettes released this way did not include extra tape cases.

Generation 2

G2RumbleProStock.jpg
  • "Rumble" (Go-Bot, 1995)
    • Accessories: Rifle
Part of the canceled fourth wave of Generation 2 Go-Bots, Rumble would have been a race car with a pizza-oriented sponsor ("Vinny's Pizza", possibly a reference to then-Hasbro employee Vincent D'Alleva) and an engine-oriented sponsor ("Jerry's Motors", possibly a reference to Hasbro employee Jerry Jivoin). He would have transformed into a modified Chevrolet Camaro with exposed engine block. He has through-axle construction to allow for super-fast rolling in car mode. Like his fellow "new"-mold teammates, his rifle stores under his car mode.
Although he was never officially named in any known documents, his name is written on the front bumper. A very small handful of finished samples have made their way to the secondary market, where they demand some big bucks.
This mold was redecoed into 2001 Robots in Disguise Side Swipe and the 2003 Universe version of Silverstreak.
Amusingly, he would have been both red and blue.

Alternators

X-Brawn, is that you?
  • Decepticon Rumble (Alternator, 2006)
    • ID number: 24 (misprint, should be 25)
    • Accessories: Left & right blasters
Released in the final assortment of Alternators product, "Decepticon Rumble" (named so for trademark reasons) transforms into a 1:24-scale licensed 2006 Honda Civic Si. In car mode he has opening doors, hood, and trunk. He is the only Alternators toy with a spring-loaded gimmick: instead of traditional forearms, he features spring-loaded piledrivers that release from his upper arms. Unfortunately, these piledrivers are incredibly wobbly when deployed, as the limited amount of space for them to compact into means there's almost nothing left inside the biceps to stabilize them. He has two weapons based on the original toy's guns that clip onto the roof panel on his back (since he obviously can't hold them, what with the no normal-type arms); the right one doubles as his vehicle-mode engine, and the other just kind of stuffs into his trunk.
Rumble's seats are misassembled, keeping them from reclining completely in car mode: the cutouts on the seat-backs that allow them to go around the torso-block are on the outside rather than the inside. Fortunately, this is fixed relatively easily; one must simply unscrew each seat from the bottom of the car, swap them, and then re-screw them. Also, it's only like a millimeter or so of difference so it doesn't really affect much if you leave them as-is.
Rumble and his wave-mate Ravage were originally intended for normal retail release in the US, got delayed as the line ended at normal retail, then were ultimately relegated to being Walmart exclusives released in late March of 2007, well after the line's disappearance from toy shelves. The molds are also are notable for being the first and only Decepticon Alternators to be entirely new sculpts actually designed as those characters from the get-go, rather than Autobot sculpts reworked to be someone else. Also they are the only molds not released in Takara's Binaltech line in any capacity: Binaltech had ended in late 2005 (as far as anyone knew), but the molds were still not used during its short 2008 revival.
Ironically, despite being first revealed at the UK Toy Fair (in the form of early concept art for a design that was ultimately never used, depicted on the left), Rumble was never released in Europe at all. Don Figueroa would later share a clearer look at this unused concept art via his Twitter.
The photography to the right is slightly mistransformed. The skirt armor is still folded up into his abdomen.

Universe (2003)

(thumbnail)
Wins award for "Most Expensive to Duplicate at Home."
  • Rumble (Basic Class, 2006)
    • Accessories: Blade, Cybertron-style Decepticon Cyber Key
Available only in the customization class at BotCon 2006 (along with Inferno), Rumble is a redeco of Cybertron Scrapmetal (using the Cobybot alternate head), transforming into a four-legged "spider tank" with top-mounted cannon. Inserting a Cyber Key into the back end of the cannon swings a removable clear-plastic sawblade-sword from the main chamber of the cannon. In robot mode, the fists can be covered with the tank mode spikes, or a "pile driver".
Both Rumble and Inferno were only available as unpainted, unassembled parts still connected to their sprues. The individuals taking the class had to assemble and paint the toy. The following Testors paint colors were used: Burnished Gold, British Gulf Armor, British Crimson, Magical Blue, Armored Steel, Flat Black, Camouflage Gray, and Medium Gray.
This toy came accompanied with a bio that was not entirely official for years, as it was never vetted by Hasbro. Almost a decade later, the Facebook edition of Ask Vector Prime would canonize it.

Music Label

(thumbnail)
Ready to shake, break, rattle and cause hearing problems by the time you're 40!
  • Frenzy & Rumble Playing Earphones (2007)
Released as part of TakaraTomy's Music Label toyline, Rumble and Frenzy share a fairly simplistic transformation from robots to white, circular, working earphones. Since they are functioning headphones, Rumble and Frenzy are permanently tethered together by wire. Although sold separately from him, they were designed to go well with the Music Label Soundwave MP3 player.

Encore

  • Great Cassette Operation Vol.3 (2009)
    • ID number: 19
    • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns"
Rumble was reissued for the first time in over 20 years, along with Frenzy, Overkill, and Laserbeak, as part of Takara's Encore line. This toy at the very least features several restored parts (including the head and weapons) if not an entirely new mold based on the original version. This theory is supported by the copyright Tomy 2009 on the inside of the leg rather than the Hasbro or Takara copyrights, and the different look of the headsculpt. This version of Rumble does not feature any of the cassette mode stickers or those originally on his legs. Most of the cassette details are now painted instead (but not those that end up on his arms in robot mode). The lower leg details are painted as well (but not the upper legs - that detail remains absent). His faction symbols remain stickers.
This release also has a new change to his guns: an added raised bump on the inner wing-side stabilizer, in addition to the bump on the minigun-side stabilizer present in the prior releases. This added tiny bit prevents the normal "slide the forearm between them" method of weapon-holding. However, the raised bits do fit around the elbow joint, and makes for an incredibly snug fit. But this also makes it effectively impossible for him to point his guns straight forward.
In 2014, Rumble and the rest of the Cassettes were re-released as a lucky draw prize (along with the other 2 box sets) for the Transformers Celebration 2014 event held at Ikebukuro Sunshine City store's Toys"R"Us, though this was very likely to be remaining stock.

Transformers (2010)

(thumbnail)
I'm blue now? I give up.
  • Demolition Rumble (Scout Class, 2011)
Rendered, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, in the blue color scheme of Rumble's Generation 1 cartoon appearances (and the original Frenzy toy, the 1986 release gold weapon variant, specifically), Transformers: Reveal the Shield "Demolition Rumble" transforms into a dual-cannon anti-aircraft vehicle. In robot mode, his arms can transform into spring-loaded versions of the character's familiar pile-driver weapons, and his two C joint guns can be attached to bars on either his arms or back. As part of the Reveal the Shield subline imprint, Rumble features a heat-sensitive rubsign on his main turret.
This mold was also used to make United Frenzy and retooled to make Timelines Rewind.
"Demolition Rumble" was intended to be released as part of the fifth Scout Class wave of the 2010 Transformers toy line (alongside Downshift and Bodyblock), but fell victim to the line's discontinuation by all major U.S. retailers in favor of the then-upcoming Dark of the Moon line. Unlike the previous wave, which was released in other markets and eventually showed up at U.S. discount stores, the Rumble/Downshift/Bodyblock wave remains unreleased.

United

United toy-Rumble.jpg
  • Rumble & Frenzy (Multi-pack, 2011-03-26)
    • ID number: UN-20
    • Accessories: Left & right cannons
Part of the fourth wave of Transformers United, Rumble is a redeco of Transformers: Reveal the Shield Demolition Rumble (which never actually got released), transforming into a dual-cannon anti-aircraft tank. In robot mode, his arms can transform into spring-loaded pile-driver weapons, and his two C joint guns can be attached to bars on either his arms or back.
Rumble was only available in a two-pack with Frenzy, who shares the same mold.
This mold was also used to make Adventure Frenzy and Rumble and retooled to make Timelines Rewind and Eject.

Masterpiece

Masterpiecetoy rumble.jpg
  • Rumble & Jaguar (2013-02-23)
    • ID number: MP-15
    • Accessories: Two piledrivers, piledriver mount, Left & right "Thruster Guns", pink tape case
Masterpiece Rumble is an updated version of the original Generation 1 toy, transforming from a highly articulated robot to a mini-cassette the same size as his Generation 1 toy, although it cannot fit in the original Soundwave toy's chest cavity. He still has his traditional Thruster Gun weapons, which can peg onto his back, or be held by his hands via 3mm post. He comes with a pink case which can be used to store him in tape mode.
TRU Masterpiece Soundwave-RumbleFrenzyPiledrivers.jpg
To replicate his and Frenzy's signature abilities from the cartoon series, Rumble comes with two large piledriver accessories that clip onto his arms. The piledrivers can connect to a mounting piece that allows them to be worn on the figure's back when not in use, and they also contain hollows to store his Thruster Guns. The mounting piece can also attach to his back on its own to resemble a battery pack.
The piledrivers can also interact with other figures: They can clip to Masterpiece Soundwave's forearms to form cannons, or combine with Masterpiece Frenzy's own piledrivers and link up with Soundwave's "sensor" accessory to form the interface cable that allows Soundwave to connect to other devices, as seen in The Transformers: The Movie.
He still comes in a two-pack with Ravage, just as he did during the Generation 1 toyline. Rumble was, naturally, redecoed to create Frenzy, as well as Enemy.

  • Soundwave (2013)
    • 09 OF 30
    • ID number: MP-02
    • Accessories: Two piledrivers, piledriver mount, Left & right "Thruster Guns", clear tape case
Included with the Hasbro Toys"R"Us-exclusive version of Masterpiece Soundwave, "Decepticon Rumble" features a slightly different deco, replacing his gold vacuum-metalized details with paint, and featuring marginally brighter red plastic. His guns, piledrivers, mount, and micro-cassette case are all included and have been appropriately redecoed, with his tape case being cast in colorless-clear plastic this time.

So what am I now?
  • Soundwave Year Of The Goat Edition (multi-pack, March 23, 2014)
    • Accessories: Two piledrivers, piledriver mount, left & right "Thruster Guns", clear tape case
Included in the Toys"R"Us exclusive Year of the Goat Edition Soundwave set, this redeco of Masterpiece Rumble is is almost entirely grey and clear, with the red-orange stripes of his tape mode differentiating him from pack-in companion "Year of the Goat" Frenzy.
This set also comes with similarly-decoed versions of Masterpiece Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Ravage.

Kre-O

"And Quickslinger complained about his height?"

  • Kreon Class of 1984 (Kreon figure set, 2014)
    • Set number: B0090
    • Voted: Most Likely To Shake Things Up
    • Accessories: 2 clip-on turbines/pile-drivers
This version of Rumble, part of the Kreon Class of 1984, follows the cartoon coloration, giving him a predominantly dark-blue coloration. He uses the Cityville micro-Kreon body, in keeping with his smaller stature in the cartoon, and a pair of clip-on "turbine" parts to simulate his signature pile-drivers.
He was only available in the San Diego Comic-Con 2014 exclusive "Kreon Class of 1984" 30-pack. Remaining stock was to be sold at Hasbro Toy Shop online, but the set sold out at the show.
Hasbro stock photography shows him with a blaster accessory, but the actual product doesn't give him one.

KreO-toy RumbleBattleChanger.jpg
  • Autobot Ratchet Vs. Soundwave (Battle Changer 2-pack, 2015)
    • Set number: B1507
This version of Rumble is incredibly similar to the Class of 1984 version: the dark blue is actually a different shade (a new slightly-aqua tone introduced in 2015), he has a different face tampograph, and while he uses the same chest tampographs, his Decepticon symbol is a darker purple. This version also adds a "missile" backpack to him, which, when he is clipped onto the bars on either of Soundwave's modes, turns him into a gun emplacement.
He was only available in a Kre-O Battle Changers pack of Ratchet vs Soundwave, who also came with Frenzy, Laserbeak and Ravage.
This set, like all the Battle Changers, originally only saw release in Canada, Australia, and Asian markets. It eventually saw release in the U.S. in late 2015 through discount stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

Titans Return

(thumbnail)
Rumble Frenzy redeco when?
  • Decepticon Rumble (Legends Class, 2016)
    • Accessories: Rifle/tank cannon
Titans Return "Decepticon Rumble" is a retool of Autobot Rewind and transforms from spy-tablet to tank to robot. In spy-tablet mode, he can be stored in Soundwave's chest, and features a 1:1 scale audio port that you can connect a pair of headphones to. His original stock render showed him as a straight redeco of Rewind, but the final product features a new head. Rumble is packaged with a collector card based on his card art. Like all Legends Class spy tablets, his stickers are prone to coming off at the edges after some posing and transforming.
This mold was redecoed into Bumblebee Frenzy. Unlike Rewind, the Rumble/Frenzy retool did not receive a Japanese Legends release.

War for Cybertron: Siege

(thumbnail)
We regret Tim Conway didn't live to see this toy's release.
  • Decepticon Rumble & Ratbat (2019)
    • Hasbro ID number: WFC-S46
    • TakaraTomy ID number: SG-41
    • TakaraTomy release date: January 25, 2020
Part of the fifth wave of Siege Micromasters, Rumble transforms into the "V3 Sonicsurge Drone Armor." This flattened box mode is compatible with Siege Soundwave; however due to Rumble's large size, he fits very tightly into the chest compartment. He can also attach to Soundwave and other figures as some sort of shield.
Rumble comes packaged together with Ratbat, and for the Generations Selects line was redecoed as Frenzy and retooled with a new head as Knok.
Though the War for Cybertron Trilogy is almost entirely inspired by the colorations of the U.S. Generation 1 cartoon, the Hasbro Pulse listing for Frenzy's multi-pack notes that with WFC-S46 Rumble and WFC-GS10 Frenzy together, fans can apply their own interpretation of FIRRIB.

Vintage G1

Vintage-G1-Ravage-Rumble-carded.jpg
  • Decepticon Ravage / Decepticon Rumble (2019)
    • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns"
As part of the Vintage G1 line of reissues, Rumble comes with fellow mini-cassette Ravage, recreating their pairing in the original toyline. He comes with his two thruster guns, and is packaged onto a classic G1-styled card with tech spec on the back.
The most immediately-noticeable change to this release of Rumble is the tampographed batch/production numbers on his tape-side, on both legs and his butt. However, his robot mode chest detailing is now painted gold, rather than gold chrome. He also has the new Vintage G1 style rubsign, with a mirror-reflective silver border and red-only symbol. As he uses the Encore molding, his guns have the same "clip around the elbows" ridges inside the stabilizers.
Ravage and Rumble were released alongside the similarly paired Vintage G1 Frenzy and Laserbeak, and of course, are intended for collectors picking up the concurrently-released Vintage G1 Soundwave and Buzzsaw (assuming your local stores got any). Like all figures from this line, Ravage and Rumble were exclusive to Walmart in the United States and Canada.

Studio Series

(thumbnail)
At this point, Hasbro's just letting the fans decide what color he is.
  • Decepticon Rumble (Blue) (Core Class, 2022)
  • Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
  • TakaraTomy ID number: SS-102
  • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns", twin piledrivers, piledriver heads
  • Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy), Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
Released in the fourth wave of Studio Series Core Class figures, "Rumble (Blue)" boasts greater screen-accuracy than his prior release and is a smaller mold than most of the other Core Class toys. However, this is offset due to his accessories and complexity, rivaling that of Kingdom/Legacy Eject. His accessories include the thruster guns that weren't included with his prior Siege figure, as well as his piledrivers with non-movable pistons (although the tips are on 5mm pegs and can be shifted down to the end of the peg to simulate them moving or just be completely removed). Due to size and transformation constraints (chiefly the space needed to fold his fists into his forearms), he doesn't have elbow joints.
His cassette mode is designed to the same specifications as the War for Cybertron Trilogy cassettes, and therefore can fit into any iteration of the Siege Soundwave and Kingdom Blaster molds' chest compartments.
While the Core Class lacks the backdrops included with all other Studio Series size classes, the inside of Rumble's packaging is decorated with art of the communications tower he breaks into at the beginning of the movie.
This figure was marketed as an iteration of Rumble even by TakaraTomy, who generally depict Frenzy consistently as the blue Mini-Cassette.
The figure was redecoed into his partner, Frenzy.

Legacy

RIR and B?
  • G1 Universe Soundwave, G1 Universe Decepticon Rumble, G1 Universe Buzzsaw, G1 Universe Ravage (Leader Class, 2024)
  • Accessories: Left & right "Thruster Guns", twin piledrivers, piledriver heads
  • Known designers: Mark Maher (Hasbro)[1]
Legacy: United "G1 Universe Decepticon Rumble" is a redeco of the above Studio Series mold. This redeco is based on the original toy colors... where Frenzy is the blue one. Going cross-eyed is normal at this point, don't worry. Rumble was released alongside his master, G1 Universe Soundwave, and fellow cassettes G1 Universe Ravage and G1 Universe Buzzsaw. He remains compatible with the chest compartments of Siege Soundwave, Kingdom Blaster, and any of their redecos.
This set makes the unusual move of being a multi-pack of figures from smaller size classes being sold as a regular Leader Class release.
He was revealed on Mark Maher's instagram on June 13, 2024, as part of a week of Legacy United reveals, being put up for pre-order the same day.

Transformers - Wall Plaque

Soundwave plaque.jpg
  • Soundwave (Diamond Select, 2006)
Released by Diamond Select Toys in 2006, Soundwave was sculpted by Art Asylum and limited to 1,000 pieces. He is seen emerging from the space bridge with (cartoon deco) Rumble, Laserbeak, and Ravage in tow.

First 4 Figures

  • Hot Rod vs Ravage & Rumble (2006 unreleased)
Intended for release in the Transformers Battlefield line by model company First 4 Figures, this was to be 13-inch-ish tall diorama depicting Hot Rod fighting against Ravage and Rumble. As a Battlefield release, this model would have featured a detailed base designed to interlock with others in the same range to create a massive battle diorama. Unfortunately, a general discontinuation of First 4 Figures' Transformers-related output meant only the first model, "Optimus Prime vs Megatron", was released.
All models in the Battlefield line were advertised as being sculpted by "Mad" Alterton, with a corresponding set of art posters by Little IroN, implying he had produced the concept art for each release. The digital sculpt for Hot Rod was reportedly shown to the toy news press at New York Toy Fair in 2006.[2] The set was likely intended to be limited to 1,850 pieces worldwide, given that the certificate of authenticity for the previous set allowed buyers to reserve the same numbered release on their next purchase in the series.

Rumble is sculpted using his piledrivers and his base has the aftereffects of an earthquake on the left side. A representation of his tape mode is also present on the front of his base.

The Loyal Subjects

Rumbletls.jpg
  • Rumble (2014)

    • Stars: 6
Raider Rumble, Spy Patrol-Demolitions is one of forty-eight double-sided character cards available in Wave 3 of the Transformers Trading Card Game, War for Cybertron: Siege I. In order to represent Rumble's size, Raider Rumble, Spy Patrol-Demolitions is the size of a battle card, about half the size of a normal character card.
The card's artwork is based on the Siege Rumble toy, with the Bot Mode artwork being reused from the toy's packaging art, and original Alt Mode artwork with lines by Sara Pitre-Durocher.

ReAction

TF-Super-7-ReAction-Figures-Rumble.jpg
  • Rumble (2020)
    • Accessories: Left & right blasters
Released in the second wave of Super7's line of multi-property 3.75-inch "retro" action figures, ReAction Rumble is a non-converting 3 3/4-inch action figure based on his appearance in the original cartoon, with 5 points of articulation (swivel neck, shoulders, hips) and holes in his feet for use with some variety of stand. He comes with two blasters based on the original toy's, and unlike most ReAction figures, he can hold these accessories in each hand, as well as mount them on his back.
As with all releases in the ReAction toyline, Rumble comes packaged on a small cardback that emulates the nostalgic packaging style of Kenner's Star Wars action figures from the late 1970s to early '80s.

Eaglemoss

  • Transformers Gen-1 Chess Set (2021)
