Air Hunter

Air Hunter is a Decepticon from the Robotmasters portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Behold my ridiculously named weapon!

Air Hunter (エアハンター Ea Hantā) is a rare being indeed; he is a wholly noble and generous Decepticon. He adheres to a strict military code, which includes teamwork and camaraderie. He even shares his energy with teammates who are running low. He spends a lot of time training in melee combat with his new solitarium weapon, the Sacred-Cut Sword "Gazan", attempting to perfect the "Illusion Master" technique.

Even though Megatron has disappeared, Air Hunter remains loyal to the Decepticon leader. This naturally puts him at odds with the likes of Starscream and the time-traveling Predacon Megatron.^[1]

When Beast Megatron first arrived in the past from the Blastizone, he challenged Starscream for command in the absence of the original Megatron. The Decepticons supported their leader in the traditional fashion: taking bets on his success. Air Hunter believed Starscream would emerge triumphant. Instead, he emerged unconscious. Change in Command: The Usurper Decepticon Under Beast Megatron's leadership, Air Hunter was part of a Decepticon group that attacked the Autobots. Clash! The Two Leaders The New Battle Begins!

Air Hunter, Wrecker Hook, and Psycho-Orb attempted to steal precious data from the lone R-Blade, but their unsportsmanlike attack drew the ire of the recently arrived Optimus Primal. He drove off the Decepticons and saved R-Blade. To War! Optimus Primal

Two months after Beast Megatron's arrival, Starscream attempted to win back the Decepticons with a new set of solitarium weapons. Air Hunter was provided with a sword called "Gazan", which was a fine blade indeed. And once Starscream got past the inevitable attempt to kill Beast Megatron with these Arsenal Force weapons, Air Hunter got to keep Gazan for himself. Starscream Grins 3 Times...

When two new Autobot warriors, Star Saber and Victory Leo, emerged from the Blastizone, Air Hunter and the Decepticons attempted to eliminate them. They failed in part due to the arrival of Optimal Primal and Bound Rogue. Bonds Stronger than Steel

The next time an Autobot emerged from the Blastizone, Megatron was ready, and he managed to convince Lio Convoy that the Autobots in this time period were the evil ones. Air Hunter was nearby to watch the show, but tarried too long. He was still present when the mix-up was resolved, and faced the combined firepower of four Autobot leaders at once. Things soon turned around, however, as Air Hunter learned of the return of the original Megatron. He spread the news to his fellow Decepticons. With the Arsenal Force, Beast Megatron powered up Air Hunter, along with his comrades. However, this did not last long, as Victory Saber appeared to foil the plot and dissipated the Arsenal Force energy. Robotmasters Vol. 3

Precursor World

Working under Straxus at Darkmount, Air Hunter taught his commander's experiment and would-be assassin, C-6, sword fighting skills and was part of his training routines. Profile+, January 2 2017Cybertron Convobat prequel comic Soon after C-6, now Convobat, escaped Straxus's clutches, Darkmount came under attack by Magna Convoy. Part of the first wave of Takara's Robotmasters line, Air Hunter is a redeco of the Machine Wars Basic Class Megaplex/Megatron mold, transforming from a Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet to robot mode with a spring-loaded one-step transformation. The two halves of his "Chromium Shot" rifle store in the back of his robot-mode legs.

Unique to this release of the mold is the clear-plastic naginata-like weapon "Seidanken 'Gazan'". This can combine with the other Robotmasters Decepticons' solitarium weapons to form the "Arsenal Force" megaweapon.

Notes

• It has been speculated that the new-mold weapons in Robotmasters are actually unused accessories from the Takara "LED Powers" Microman series, which was abruptly canceled in late 2000. The last section of the line included transparent plastic weapons that could be combined to form armor or larger weapons for the individual Microman figures. The handle size is also identical between the solitarium parts and the "Shining Tector" Microman weapons.
