Responsibilities

  • Special Education Teacher

Key Responsibilities

  • The concerned person shall be responsible for the entire curriculum, all grades for the early intervention processes that will be followed to support students’ needs, and teaching practices to create a world class special needs learning program.
  • Should prepare early intervention program which should significantly increase their functional skills and their successful entry into adulthood.
  • The function of early intervention programs is to prepare children for the future academic tasks they will need to master as part of the general education curriculum.
  • Counsellor should work on developmental tasks young students with SEN need to master, fall in the areas of: Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Language development, Functional Language, Social Language, Semantics, Letter Recognition, Mathematical Skills.
  • Monitor children’s behavioural patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed
  • Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict
  • Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities
  • Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counsellors and teachers) to create holistic intervention plans.
  • Support the students by providing intervention
  • Strategize with parents and outside professionals by developing feasible solutions
  • Prepare and implement goals for intervention and remediation
  • Collaborate with teachers by indicating feasible changes in the class work
  • Cooperate with faculty to differentiate instruction (in content, process, product, and environment) in order to facilitate student learning and growth
  • Document student progress and identify the student’s strengths and needs
  • Create a safe atmosphere for each child, adhering to strict confidentiality
  • Communicate with parents and teachers about students who have been recommended for support.
  • Collaborate with Coordinators/Sr. Coordinators to recommend specialists who may provide specific services
  • Communicate with specialists currently working with students
  • Review students’ records and evaluations with Coordinators and respective class teachers
  • Attend meetings for students receiving learning support services
  • Consult with and exchange information with teachers for reports

Skills & Competencies

Special Educator teacher to support the students learning in core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science for Primary to Middle school level. Knowledge of both Mandarin and English is preferred. Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role

Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies

Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities

A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ii. Job Purpose

Ensure to help students who need extra support with their learning; work with students who have mild to moderate learning difficulties

Minimum Qualifications

Degree

Certificate/ Diploma in Special Education.

Experience - 2 -5 years of experience in teaching students with special needs/ learning disabilities
