‘I made bad decisions’

Jewison Bennette joined Greek side Aris on loan in January as he looked for first team minutes but the spell was a nightmare for the winger, as he only featured in the first two games he was available for.

Speaking to Teletica in his homeland, Bennette explained what went wrong during his loan spell:

It was quite a complicated year, I made bad decisions, going to a club that broke my contract in every way. My agent recommended me to go there, he told me not to talk to anyone, it was a bad decision I made, but I’m learning.

When I came to Aris I played two games and after that they had to pay my salary, house and car, I complained to Sunderland and they [Aris] were upset about that, then they started to put me aside and left me off the list, in the end I had a small injury that left me out of La Sele’s [Costa Rica’s national team] games.

Bennette’s international team-mate Alvaro Zamora is also on the books of Aris and according to the 19-year-old, the only difference between their experiences is that Bennette was only on loan:

The only difference between me and him is that he didn’t have a team, but I’m going back. I’ll start pre-season with Sunderland and we’ll see what happens if they give me on loan to a new team or not.

I had to take out of my savings to pay my expenses, house and car over there, they are irresponsible.

Jewison re-iterates that he made a bad decision but will now concentrating on giving his best at Sunderland:

I made a bad decision and it’s a learning experience for me, not to make hasty decisions and now to concentrate on my team to give my best.

On loan would be a league that is very strict on the issue of wages, that there are no arrears, in Greece there are arrears of wages, the others have a great career, but one who is young is saving, I have projects.

Bennette is currently in Costa Rica training with his former side Herediano as he looks to keep fit ahead of a potential national team call-up.

Svensson interesting Union

Bo Svensson is one of a number of names linked with the vacant Sunderland head coach role but if he is to head to Wearside, Kristjaan Speakman will have to fend off interest from Germany.

According to Kicker, Svensson is said to be of interest of Union Berlin, who themselves have an interim coach in the form of Marco Grote. Grote is said to be a genuine option for the Bundesliga outfit but Kicker claims concrete discussions have now taken place between Union and Svensson.

Kicker goes on to claim that Svensson can imagine himself coaching Union next season, following his six month break from football.
