South Indian-Style Paneer Ghee Roast

South Indian-Style Paneer Ghee Roast is a protein-rich side dish that goes well with roti and rice both. Take a look at the simplest recipe that one can try at home.

​Ingredients required​

2 tsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 4-6 garlic, 1 tbsp tamarind, 4 dried red chillies, 1 tsp ghee.

​Other ingredients​

250 gms paneer, 3 tbsp curd, 1 tbsp lemon juice, salt to taste, 1/2 cup onion, 2 tbsp ghee, 1/2 ts turmeric powder, 1 tsp jaggery, 8-10 curry leaves.

​Step 1​

Heat a heavy bottom pan with ghee and roast all spices, except the garlic and tamarind.

​Step 2​

Once done, let them cool down and blend into a smooth paste along with tamarind and garlic. Add water to adjust the consistency.

​Step 3​

In a bowl, add cubed paneer along with the prepared masala paste, lemon juice, curd and salt to taste. Mix well and set it aside for 30 minutes.

​Step 4​

In the same heavy bottom pan, heat 2 tablespoon ghee and add curry leaves. As they splutter, add finely chopped onions. Fry until they turn light golden brown.

Add the marinated paneer along with 1/4 cup water and cook it for about 3-4 minutes.

Add turmeric powder and jaggery, cook it on low flame for another 7-8 minutes.

Serve hot with any Indian flat bread or pulao.
