Aston Villa 3, Liverpool 3 - Match Recap: A Football Match Happened

A look back at the key moments in Liverpool’s entertaining draw against Aston Villa in Premier League action.

Aston Villa v Liverpool FC - Premier League

Aston Villa 3 - 3 Liverpool

Villains: Tielemans 12’, Duran 85’, Diaby 88’
Reds: Martinez (OG) 2’, Gakpo 23’, Quansah 48’

Pre-Match

With third and fourth all but wrapped up, there’s not much to play for.

First Half

World class shithouse Emiliano Martinez quite literally throws it into his own net in the second minute of the match. Bold strategy. But, thanks?

Laughing at Martinez aside, and we are all laughing, the Reds are off to a bright start, and are pinging the ball around confidently and getting in behind fairly easily. The goal came as a result of Elliott being played through and trying to square it across the 6 yard box. The keeper came to collect and simply failed to do so. Unlucky.

And Villa peg Liverpool back on their first attack of the night. This fucking season, man.

And now Liverpool are back in the lead! Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo combine for a well-worked goal, and VAR tries very hard to chalk it off, taking several minutes, and some deep, regretful tears, to give the goal.

It was a decentish half from the Reds, but also, who cares?

Second Half

Another half, another early goal from the Reds! This time Elliott swings in a free kick for Quansah to rise and nod it home!

Liverpool survive a couple of scares a few moments later. First Villa score, but VAR pulls it back for offside, and then Ali tries his best to give the home side a gift, but thankfully they cannot convert.

Then stuff happens, but who cares? Plus subs. Darwin is on? So that’s cool.

And Villa score again. It’s a hell of a strike, to be fair. And score again with a much flukier goal. These things happen.

Final Thoughts

A match happened. It was fun, I think?
