General information

See below for details about what data is carried over when you transfer your LINE account to a new device.

Data that can be transferred to a device with the same OS as before (Android to Android/iPhone to iPhone):

• Friends and groups

• Profile information

• Notes and albums

• Stickers, themes, and emoji

• Content saved in Keep (excluding content in your Keep Memo chat)

• Data registered to apps and services linked to your LINE account

• LINE Pay and LINE Point balances

• Coins and other in-app currencies (e.g. Gems and other LINE Game currencies, Manga Coins, Fortune Coins)

• Chat history

Note: To transfer your chat history, you need to back it up in advance.

Data that can be transferred to a device with a different OS from before (Android to iPhone/iPhone to Android):

• Friends and groups

• Profile information

• Notes and albums

• Stickers, themes, and emoji

• Content saved in Keep (excluding content in your Keep Memo chat)

• LINE Pay and LINE Point balances

• Chat history from the past 14 days (only if you use an easy transfer QR code)

If you can't receive text messages or phone calls (e.g. because you're using a data-only plan or a SIM card provided by a carrier other than LINE Mobile, or you don't have a contracted phone number), you can transfer your LINE account using one of the methods below.

Transfer your account with an easy transfer QR code

To use an easy transfer QR code, you need to be able to log in to your LINE account and have both your previous device and the new device you want to transfer the account to.

Using this method will transfer the last 14 days of your chat history, even if you don't back up your chats in advance.

Note:

- To transfer more than the last 14 days of your chat history, you need to back up your chat history in advance and transfer your account to a device with the same OS as before (Android to Android/iPhone to iPhone).

- If you can no longer use your old device, there will be no way to transfer your chat history to a device with a different OS.

Transferring your account with an easy transfer QR code

Transfer your LINE account with your Apple ID or Google account

You can transfer your account with your Apple ID or Google account by following the steps below.

1. Make sure you've linked your Apple ID, or linked your Google account to LINE on your old device.

2. Turn the Skip 2-step authentication setting ON.

3. Back up and transfer your chat history.

4. Open LINE on your new device and transfer your account with your Apple ID, or Google account.

Important: This option is only available when you're continuing to use the same phone number with a LINE account created on a version of LINE earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.

To transfer your LINE account using a phone number, make preparations to transfer it, then follow the steps below.

To transfer your LINE account with a phone number:
1. Open LINE and tap Log in.
2. Tap Log in with another method > Log in with phone number > Continue.
3. Select your country, enter your phone number, check the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy, then tap the arrow > OK or Send.
Note:
- For users in Thailand, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 11 years old.
- For users in Korea, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 14 years old and you've agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy.
- For users in European Economic Area (EEA) member countries, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 16 years old and you've agreed to the Privacy Policy.
4. Enter the verification code you received via text message.
Note: On some Android devices, the verification code is entered automatically. In this case, skip to the next step.
5. Tap Yes, that's my account.
6. Enter your password and tap the arrow.
Note: If you forgot your password, see Checking/changing your password.
7. On the ”Did you back up your chat history?” screen, tap Continue.
Note: Tapping Continue will make your LINE account inaccessible on your old device.
8. For Android users, choose your preferred account from Select your Google account, then tap OK.
9. Tap Restore chat history.
10. Enter your backup PIN.
Note:
- The backup PIN entry screen will appear if you have a backup PIN set on your old device.
- See About the backup PIN to set one up.
11. On the "Your chat history is being restored" screen, tap Continue.
12. Choose whether to add friends from your device's contacts, then tap the arrow.
13. For users in Japan, choose whether to verify your age.
Note: The age verification screen will appear if you have not verified your age.
14. Confirm the "Regarding Usage of Your Information" consent screen.
Note: In some cases, this screen won't appear.

The method for transferring a LINE account with a different phone number differs depending on the country you live in. Please select the steps for where you currently live.

Users that live in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand

Before you transfer your LINE account with a phone number that's different from the number currently registered, check the following Help articles.

After checking the Help articles above, transfer your LINE account by following the steps below.

To transfer your LINE account:
1. Open LINE on your new device and tap Log in.
2. Tap Log in with another method > Log in with phone number > Continue.
3. Select your country, enter your phone number, check the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy, then tap the arrow > OK or Send.
Note:
- For users in Thailand, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 11 years old.
- For users in Korea, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 14 years old and you've agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy.
- For users in European Economic Area (EEA) member countries, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 16 years old and you've agreed to the Privacy Policy.
4. Enter the verification code you received via text message.
Note:
- On some Android devices, the verification code is entered automatically. In this case, skip to the next step.
- If you see a message that says "Welcome back, XXXX!" after entering the verification code, tap No, that's not me > Next.
5. On the "Do you already have an account?" screen, tap Yes, transfer my account.
6. Select a login method.
7. Enter the phone number or email address registered to your account, then tap the arrow.
8. Enter your password and tap the arrow.
Note: If you forgot your password, see Checking/changing your password.
9. Continue verification on the "How to finish transferring your account" screen.
10. Confirm the LINE account that is displayed and tap Log in.
11. On the ”Did you back up your chat history?” screen, tap Continue.
Note: Tapping Continue will make your LINE account inaccessible on your old device. If you want to restore your chat history, be sure to back them up on your old device before transferring your account.
12. Tap Restore chat history.
13. Enter your backup PIN.
Note:
- The backup PIN entry screen will appear if you have a backup PIN set on your previous device.
- See About the backup PIN to set one up.
14. On the "Your chat history is being restored" screen, tap Continue.
15. Choose whether to add friends from your device's contacts, then tap the arrow.
16. For users in Japan, choose whether to verify your age.
Note: If you've already verified your age, this screen will not appear.
17. Confirm the "Regarding Usage of Your Information" consent screen.

Note: In some cases, the screens from steps 9 and 17 will not appear.

Users that live in other countries

Note: The contents of this section only apply to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0.

You cannot transfer your LINE account with a different phone number than the one registered to your LINE account.

If you're using a different phone number on a new device, you can change your phone number on your previous device, then transfer your LINE account with your phone number or refer to the steps in one of the following Help articles to transfer your account.

You don't have your previous device

Note:

- The contents of this section only apply to users in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.

- You cannot transfer your LINE account with a different phone number than the one registered to your LINE account if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand. Please create a new LINE account.

If you haven't set a password:
In order to transfer your account, you need to have a password set in advance.

If you did not set a password for your account, you will not be able to transfer it. In this case, please create a new LINE account.

If you're not transferring your LINE account with an easy transfer QR code (e.g. the QR code login option) or with the same phone number registered to your account, you will need to turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting. To do so, go to Settings > Account transfer options in the LINE app.

You need to turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting when:

• Logging in to your LINE account after changing to a phone number that is different from your registered phone number. (Only for users in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.)

• Logging in to your LINE account from the Continue with Apple option.

Note: This also includes when restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup.

• Logging in to your LINE account from the Continue with Google option.

Useful info

- While you can transfer your LINE account even if you haven't turned on the Skip 2-step authentication setting, we suggest turning it on to transfer your LINE account in a smoother manner.
- Be sure to transfer your LINE account within 36 hours of turning on the Skip 2-step authentication setting. If 36 hours have elapsed, turn this setting on again to reset the timer to 36 hours.

You can transfer your LINE account to a new device in a snap using an easy transfer QR code.

To transfer your account with an easy transfer QR code, you need to:

• Still be able to log in to your LINE account and have both your previous device and the new device you want to transfer the account to.

• Be using LINE version 12.10.0 or later. (Update LINE to the latest version)

• Have a network connection.

Restoring your chat history

If you're transferring your account to a device with the same OS as before (Android to Android/iPhone to iPhone), your chat history from the last 14 days will automatically be transferred with your account when you use an easy transfer QR code.

To transfer more than the last 14 days of chat history, back it up beforehand.

If you're transferring your account to a device with a different OS (Android to iPhone/iPhone to Android), only your chat history from the last 14 days will automatically be transferred with your account when you use an easy transfer QR code.

To transfer your account with an easy transfer QR code:

1. Open LINE on your new device and tap Log in.

2. Tap Log in with QR code > Scan QR code.

Note: If you're asked to allow photo or video access, you need to do so to proceed.

3. Open LINE on your old device and tap Settings > Easy transfer QR code under Backup and transfer.

4. Scan the QR code on your previous device with your new device.

5. On the "Did you just scan this QR code?" pop-up, put a check next to "Yes, I scanned the QR code myself" and tap Continue.

Note: You may need to verify your identity on your previous device if you had a passcode or unlock method set.

6. On your new device, tap Log in on the Log in as [your profile name] screen.

7. If you backed up your chat history and your new device is using the same OS as before, choose whether or not to restore your chat history.

Note: If your new device is running a different OS than your old one, tap Skip for now.

8. Make sure you're logged in to LINE on your new device. (Once your data has finished syncing, you will automatically be logged out of LINE on your old device.)

9. For users in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, if you changed your phone number when transferring your account, refer to Changing your phone number and update your registered phone number with the new one.

The way you can continue transferring your account depends on your situation.

Methods for if you can still use LINE on the smartphone you were using before changing devices

• Turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting on your old smartphone:
1. On your old smartphone, turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting.
2. Tap Continue on the "How to finish transferring your account" screen that appears on your new smartphone.

• Use your old smartphone to verify your account transfer:

If you change devices, you can keep using your existing LINE account by transferring it to your new device.

To transfer your LINE account, you need to meet one of the following requirements.

• You can still use your previous device and log in to your LINE account.
• Your LINE account is registered with a phone number and password.
• An Apple ID or Google account is linked to your LINE account.

Note: To register or change your password when transferring your LINE account, you need to have an email address registered to it. We recommend registering an email address beforehand in case you forget your password.

Before transferring your LINE account, you need to make some preparations on your device.

On the device you're currently using LINE on, make sure you have a current phone number, current email address, and password registered to your account. For the steps to check/change your information, see the Help articles below.

Back up your chat history
To restore your chat history on your new device, you need to back up your chat history in advance.

Backing up your chat history

Note: If you can't back up your chat history to iCloud Drive/Google Drive or if you're transferring your account to a new device with a different OS, you can automatically transfer your history from the last 14 days by setting a backup PIN beforehand.

Turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting

Turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting only if you plan on transferring your LINE account:

• With a phone number that's different from the one currently registered to your account. (Only for users in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.)

• Using your Apple ID or Google account.

You still need to transfer your LINE account after restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup. To do so, follow the steps below.

1. Start LINE.

2. Tap Verify on the identity verification required screen.

3. Enter your registered email address and password, then tap OK.

If you see the “How to finish transferring your account” screen and you:

• Can still use your previous device, turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting, then tap Continue on your new device.

Tap Verify phone number or Continue with Apple.
