History

Deeded to Native Americans under an Ottawa Indian treaty in 1855, the site later came under control of tanners the W.W. Rice Company. The City of Petoskey purchased the land in 1934, naming it the Petoskey Bathing Beach. In 1968, the beach was sold to the state of Michigan, which took title in 1969, then opened the park's campground in 1970.[2]

Activities and amenities

The park offers a mile-long sand beach for swimming, a trail that ascends the Old Baldy sand dune, picnicking facilities, and a 178-site campground.[2]
