How do I get, retrieve, and insert an image file (png format) and chembox for the article 5-Hydroxyicosatetraenoic acid and 5-oxo-eicosatetraenoic acid? The article already has them for 5-Hydroxyicosatetraenoic acid but also needs them for 5-oxo-eicosatetraenoic acid. I do and also will have similar needs for other chemicals in other articles and therefore would like to know the general method for this. If you could instruct me on this or give me a site which does so, I'd be grateful. Thanks,

== Regarding the use of a copyrighted image that I have permission to use ==

I have asked the owner of an image for permission to use it on the [[Lawrie Sanchez]] page as there are no other images available in the public domain/for free.

The owner's reply was "I don't have any objections to you using that image on his Wikipedia page, as long as you include my copyright line in the text associated with the image as follows: Image © Gary Hynard 2007".

Is it acceptable policy to put this copyright info underneath the image on a Wikipedia page?

Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)

Change the article on the shooting of Mike Brown

The article has been proven to be inaccurate (Mike Brown did NOT steal cigarettes from the convenience store before he was shot) and must be changed so that people can be aware of the truth of the circumstances surrounding his death, and so that false information and conceptions are not perpetuated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.219.154.130 (talk) 02:42, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The place to discuss the article is Talk:Shooting of Michael Brown. There are already discussions about what to say regarding the cigarillos. The latest is Talk:Shooting of Michael Brown#RFC: Alleged theft of cigars from convenience store? It certainly has not been proved that he did not steal them. His own friend who was with him in both the store and at the shooting has testified that Brown stole them. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:07, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    messed-up articles

    The last two times I contributed information, once to the Uri Milstein page and the other the Yitzchak Rabin page, the page at the end of my edit, or after it, was italicized and also moved way off the screen;

Question #1 how do I fix that.

Question #2 how do I prevent it happening in the future.

As an aside, how do you make the names of Wikipedia articles you mention show up as such (in blue type)

    Thank YouDale Stern (talk) 02:56, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've reformatted your question since you put a space at the beginning of each line. This puts a box around the text and doesn't allow the text to wrap naturally. Dismas|(talk) 02:58, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your questions though, remove the space from the beginning of the line. And italics are put in by using two single quote marks ''like this'' which produces like this. And to link something, you put it in square brackets. So, [[link]] will produce link. You can see how to do more with linking at WP:WIKILINK. Dismas|(talk) 03:02, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Wrong person on google

When a certain name is typed into google, a side bar on the right of the page provided by Wikipedia offers a photo and information about the incorrect person with a similar name. Is there a way to fix this? If so who do I contact, so the correct information is displayed instead of an article of someone's page that doesn't even reach wikipedia's guidelines for notability? Thank you. LifeAquatic42 (talk) 05:17, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's not provided by Wikipedia. It's pulled from Wikipedia. Google does that and sometimes they make mistakes. But it's not any of our doing. You'll have to inform Google of the error. Dismas|(talk) 05:27, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@LifeAquatic42: If you would like to inform Google of the error, you should see a little "Feedback" link at the lower-right of the side bar you mention. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:24, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Thanks! Solved the problem. LifeAquatic42 (talk) 07:25, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do I stop the table from being forced to the bottom?

I inserted a table in my edit here[1], but the table is appearing out of place at the bottom of the page for some reason. Could someone please point out what's wrong? Thanks in advance. WinterWall (talk) 09:16, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Default to Desktop view on Safari on iOS

    Hi!

I used to be able to make the Desktop View default when viewing Wikipedia pages on my iPhone. Specifically, I use iOS 7 on an iPhone 5S. Is there any way to do this again that doesn't involve scrolling down to the bottom of the page to click on "Desktop" every time I open a new Wikipedia page? Thanks!

Also, Wikipedia's interface is simple enough that most Android or iOS devices can handle the normal desktop version. Why do we even need a mobile version?

    Thanks, Kyle 128.135.100.108 (talk) 09:37, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@128.135.100.108: I access Wikipedia through a laptop and through a smartphone. The phone's screen is so tiny that the desktop version is very difficult to use on it.
While some functionalities are missing from the mobile version, that's a problem to attack, not a reason to not have a mobile interface. I'm using the beta mobile version, and reporting bugs through Phabricator. --Thnidu (talk) 01:24, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Change of company name

    Watson, Farley & Williams

    Title: Watson, Farley & Williams

Watson Farley & Williams LLP has changed its name from "Watson, Farley & Williams LLP" to "Watson Farley & Williams LLP" (removing the comma after "Watson"). The content of the Wiki page has been updated, however is it possible to update the referencing title of the page?

    Many thanks.

the ISIS/islamic state article needs editing and real change in the way this new state is precived

there is a desperate need for neutral and fact-based view of this group and the whole preception of the term of "state". you can go and read the section "the term "Rebel group controlling territory" is fake term made up in order to replace the term "unrecognized state"" in the talk page if you don't sure about how this group should be treated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wheels of steel0 (talkcontribs) 12:46, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You should discuss this matter on the talk page of the article in question, provide sources to support your stance, and negotiate with others to arrive at a consensus. --Jayron32 18:15, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to include a paragraph of a page into another page?

There is a page (A) containing a paragraph (X) of text with 5 lines. I'm going to create a page (B) that will contain some information, and I want to append/include the paragraph (X) of page (A), so I don't need to type the whole text again. This feature would work by creating a global wikipedia variable associated with a paragraph, so other pages would be able to use it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faltur (talkcontribs) 13:03, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Try Help:Labeled section transclusion. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:15, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Faltur: This should be very rarely done if at all for mainspace articles. Some reasons include that it makes it inaccessible to editors who want improve it or tailor it to the specifics of another article it is included in; any vandalism to the original page will result in that vandalism showing up everywhere it appears; its copyright attribution is divorced from the source; any secondary citations using named references in the original page will fail on the transcluded pages, etc. I suggest instead you copy and paste the text, providing copyright attribution in the edit summary. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:13, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

can I put a link for Council Bluffs, Iowa (wikipedia article) on my Facebook group page?

I am in the beginning stage of planning a family reunion, for which I have set up a Facebook Group page for family members; I have suggested Council Bluffs as the location for the reunion, and would like to know if I may post the Wikipedia article, or a link, or url, there for the purpose of supporting my suggestion. Thank you. MemberOfFamilyReunion (talk) 22:09, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely! You are free to link any Wikipedia article for any reason. Wikipedia is free, after all ;). Cheers!--A Wild Abigail Appears! Capture me. Moves. 22:13, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What you do on Facebook isn't generally Wikipedia's concern - though if you copy an article there (as opposed to providing a link) you must comply with the terms of the Creative Commons license, which requires explicit attribution amongst other things. Note that this license covers the text. Images may be covered by other terms, and you'll need to check them individually. I suspect that it might be a lot simpler just to provide a link - and it is possible that Facebook's own terms also restrict what you can do, though you'll have to check that with them, not us. Help with conversion template

I've gotten pretty good with the conversion template, but stuck on this one. Can somebody fix this up & make it pretty?: "This was a massive flood, with estimated 1,693 km3 (4.5 × 10^14 US gallons) of water flowing at a rate of 42 km3/hr (1.1 × 10^13 US gallons), over a 40 hr period." I would just write out per hour for the second volume:
    Markup Renders as
    {{convert|1693|km3|gal}}

1,693 cubic kilometres (4.47×1014 US gal)

    {{convert|42|km3|gal}} per hour

42 cubic kilometres (1.1×1013 US gal) per hour

A user is deleting information on a band's page... the info is being put up by the owner of the band!

Hi, my name is Jeff Waters and I am the owner of the music group ANNIHILATOR from Canada. Annihilator (band)

There is a user named: MetalDiablo666 who has deleted/altered my official "facts/bio/info" on the page. A few minutes ago, i used the "undo" function to revert back to the recent and correct version of the page... again, what this user did was delete the official stuff and somehow leave incorrect facts... How can I prevent him from changing this page again? He is not there to add facts or "help out"; he is deleting official facts that I uploaded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Metaliker (talkcontribs) 01:28, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Even if you do own the band, you do not own or control the article about the band, nor do you have any right to control its content. With your obvious and massive conflict of interest, you should never have edited the article at all, much less been messing around with it for so long. You should have suggested improvements to the article on the talk page of said article, offering reliable, impartial sources of information to improve the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A question about editing on wikipedia

Are there any rules and/or guidelines on wikipedia which state that a user must contribute to wikipedia if they hope to have their user sub pages kept? So for example, can a user cease contributing to main space articles and instead contribute solely to their own user space, without having to worry about their user subpages being deleted? JayJ47 (talk) 02:49, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn’t appear to be anything listed here – providing that user space rules have not been broken. Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion--Aspro (talk) 03:15, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it says "User pages about Wikipedia-related matters by established users usually do not qualify for deletion." I've seen some material deleted, though, if it appeared that the user had stopped contributing to Wikipedia and instead was using his or her userspace for something else (posting a resumé, running a fantasy game, promoting a product, etc.) —Anne Delong (talk) 03:40, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thank you both for your answers :) JayJ47 (talk) 03:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    See also Wikipedia:User pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:07, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@JayJ47: WP:NOTWEBHOST is also relevant where it says user pages "should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on" WP, & "...user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia". If you are only editing your userpages/subpages and not contributing to improving WP, your pages could well be deleted. 'Abandoned' draft pages for example are deleted fairly regularly. I had a few old drafts deleted, though they were on my old IP sub page, and hadn't been edited in years. Such things can be recovered though, If I decide I want to complete those pages. 220 of Borg 17:37, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page view comparison of multiple articles

I know that you can find out the page views of a particular page on Wikipedia by first clicking on the History tab and then clicking on "Page View Statistics". Is there a tool available where you can type the names of multiple articles and then compare the page views of all of the articles together. It would be a real time saver. Thanks. Gizza (t)(c) 05:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@DaGizza: I don't know of any, and if there isn't one...well, I've been looking to hack something together as a side project in my spare time over break :) I'll keep you updated if I manage to throw something together in the next few weeks, but no promises. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 08:20, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks SuperHamster :) Yeah I find the Google Trends and Alexa statistics very useful. It will be handy if Wikipedia can offer something similar. Gizza (t)(c) 12:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In case you don't know, the page view tool has a pagename field next to the "Go" button. It only works on one page at a time but it's often faster than going via the page history. However, the field is currently broken for me. You can write the pagename directly in the url instead but I don't know whether it works for all characters. Hello,

I am writing on behalf of The Shepherd Building Group. I work for the company and need to change the logo on the page as it is incorrect.

The article is here: Shepherd Building Group

The user who uploaded the logo has not been instructed to by the company. I am unable to overwrite the image. Could I be advised how to gain control of editing the page. It can include any information that is taken from reliable sources, ?

    Thanks

    Katy Jobling

    KatyJobling52 (talk) 09:12, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please understand that this is not "your" page, it is Wikipedia's page about your company, please read our policy on ownership of articles. It can include any information that is taken from reliable sources, whether that is praise or criticism of the company.
You cannot "gain control of editing the page" - please read and follow our policy on conflict of interest, which explains why you should not be editing the page at all, and what to do if you want changes made. Similarly "The user who uploaded the logo" had no need to be "instructed to by the company".
If you wish the logo to be updated, please supply a URL of where the new logo can be found - or ask at files for upload - Arjayay (talk) 09:38, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I assume that the logo you would like to see on the page is this one. Getting it into the article in place of the one currently there will be easy, except for one thing. Wikipedia is careful to obey laws regarding copyright, and only uses images which it is legally entitled to use, either because they are in the public domain, or under "fair use" rules. As far as I can tell, neither of these applies to Shepherd's current logo. If the company is willing to release its copyright in the image, there are (lengthy and tedious) instructions here. Maproom (talk) 10:52, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand this is not my page and I understand I cannot fully gain control, this is not what I intend to do - I did not phrase this well. Apologies. I would simply like to update the logo on this page to the correct one. The correct logo is here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=shepherd+group+logo&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=912&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=4kp8VL-mE-n5ywOa6oGADA&ved=0CCYQsAQ#facrc=_&imgdii=8ltYQczbpSHC4M%3A%3Bj6mC-gLwVnVY1M%3B8ltYQczbpSHC4M%3A&imgrc=8ltYQczbpSHC4M%253A%3BYBC3k-1zc0dItM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.yorkguildhallorchestra.com%252Fassets%252Fimages%252FShepherd-Group-logo-for-web.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.yorkguildhallorchestra.com%252Fhtml%252Flinks.html%3B3477%3B1521

I've changed the logo image for the company. We can use logos under a claim of fair use. I don't know why anyone would need to go through the trouble of donating their own company logo. Dismas|(talk) 11:40, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    SPI

On 21st November an editor was taken to WP:SPI for suspected sock-puppeting and there is a long backlog for dealing with these cases. This case is still low down on the list. Today the editor has opened yet another account in a different name (this is clear from comparing userpage details). Could details of this new suspected sock-puppet account be added to the current SPI form? ~ P123ct1 (talk) 10:41, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Just add the new account's name below, and in the same format as, the other entry or entries in the "Suspected sockpuppets" section, and add a signed and dated note—below your original explanation of the report (if you were the original filer) or in the "Comments by other users" section (if you weren't)—pointing out that you've added the account to the report. References and categories not displaying properly

Hi! I seem to be experiencing a technical glitch, or I did something the wrong way, but cannot figure out what... I just created a new stub article, First Council of Dvin, put the reflist under a reference header at the bottom, then added a navbox and 2 categories, but they don't display when I save the page. The references appear but without a header, the rest not at all. Could anyone fix it or tell me how to do it?? Many thanks! Susuman77 (talk) 14:29, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Missing stuff often results from something being unclosed (e.g., a tag or template). I added a slash/stroke to the ref tag preceding the References section heading. ‑‑Mandruss  14:33, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks a lot for your fast response, I'll be careful to check that in the future. Susuman77 (talk) 14:35, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Image licence question

The section on German compounds mentions the German language can be used to produce surprisingly long compound words. I have seen the word Banküberfallvorbereitungsüberwachungsdatenspeicherungsgesetz used in a German Donald Duck comic book, and it clearly seems to illustrate a surprisingly long German compound word. If I take a photograph of the panel where Chief O'Hara is arresting Black Pete, citing this (fictional) law, am I allowed to publish it on Wikipedia? After all, I don't own the copyright on the drawings of Chief O'Hara and Black Pete on the panel. JIP | Talk 19:00, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@JIP: Hey JIP. Sorry, I don't think you can use it. Since nothing you've said indicates the image is in the public domain or bears a compatible free license, the issue is whether the intended use of this non-free copyrighted material would be permitted under fair use and I don't think it would. It's not as if this example of a surprisingly long German word is the only example one could use that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose. For that reason, it would likely not meet contextual significance and its use would be replaceable by a free equivalent. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:07, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

how to add a pdf file to a page

    Hi,

I am editing the Wikipedia site for my old professor, George W. Hilton. Trains Magazine has sent me a new obituary that they ran in their November issue with their permission to post it on Wikipedia. But, while I know how to enter a link to a pdf that is on another site (eg, AEI), how do I attach the pdf file directly to George's Wikipedia site? When I click on edit the references, it does not take me to the reference section where there are presently four references. Thanks,

We don't provide references by uploading them. What you should do is use the {{Cite magazine}} template to provide details of the reference so that anyone who wants to verify it can find it in, say, a library and check it for themselves.--ukexpat (talk) 22:09, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Filedelinkerbot problem

Commons:File:Trevelin.jpg has recently been deleted, see Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Trevelin.jpg. This image was used in articles in several Wikipedia languages. User:Filedelinkerbot quickly removed the reference to this file from Trevelin in English Wikipieda, but it has not removed the references in corresponding articles in eight other languages: br:Trevelin, cy:Trevelin, es:Trevelin, eu:Trevelin, fr:Trevelin, it:Trevelin, pt:Trevelin and sco:Trevelin. Should I raise this in User talk:Filedelinkerbot? I could edit these pages manually, but I am wary of editing a page in a language that I don't understand. In each case, a recent edit replaced a valid image with the now-deleted image. I hope that a new edit will prompt the restoration of the original image by an editor watching the page. Verbcatcher (talk) 22:47, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Verbcatcher: As far as I'm aware, Filedelinkerbot only operates on the English and German versions of Wikipedia. To expand the bot to run on other language-versions of Wikipedia would require the bot go through whatever bot-approval process those wikis have. I suppose that is something that could be discussed with the bot's operator, but in the mean time, I've started removing the images manually (and restoring the previous one when appropriate). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:58, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Regarding Maps of India

Dear Sir I am a citizen of India & Pakistan. I happen to see your page referring India and Pakistan. We live as brothers, and there is a problem between us, I agree. But as of now the world record say that the areas marked by you in India that are claimed to be a part of Pakistan is hurting my feelings. If you want to mention the post as it is and you argue that it is correct, Please answer my question, America is a land of Red Indians, and Canadians, whereas Settlements from Europe, England and African settled there. If what our brothers do in India is problem then you have to mention USA as "Land of Red Indians occupied by Europeans and Africans". I believe I am correct. This is not a post of anguish or anger. Just a suggestion to a great organization that the way you display your ideas hurt others too.

Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Myacc05 (talkcontribs)

    Technical question regarding image formatting

Hi guys. The summary of my question/issue is this. What I want to do is place two or more images next to each other on a page (rather than one underneath the other which usually occurs), with a frame and a caption, but without using a < gallery > tag. Wikipedia:Extended image syntax has an example of what I want to do under the "Overlaying annotations on an image" section, but the problem is that it uses a template to achieve this. I don't want to use the template because I'm actually already using a template to display the image (long story, I can explain more about this if it's relevant). What I'm hoping though is that actually there is a simple wiki syntax that will allow me to do what I've described above, without getting into too much black magic CSS coding. Any suggestions appreciated! Ðiliff «» (Talk) 11:32, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    • Actually, I think it would be easier if I just show you what I'm working on and trying to do. I have two templates, each one displays a random image from a collection of images each time the template is referenced. The two templates are here and here. You can view the template code (it's fairly simple) to see how the image syntax is used there. I've created a basic page on my sandbox in which I'm trying to make the two randomised images display next to each other rather than under each other. You're welcome to play with the sandbox and the templates to try to get it working if you like. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 11:41, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    Would a table work? E.g.
Churches and Cathedrals (and other things) of Lithuania
    Churches and Cathedrals of Britain
That's the only way I can think of for doing it without a template. Obviously you could spruce up the formatting using table syntax... Yunshui  11:48, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think that will probably work perfectly. Thank you, I didn't realise it was that simple. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 12:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ðiliff, the template {{multiple image}} may also useful as used here. Jee 12:41, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jee. I don't think it will though, because unless I misunderstand how it works, it wouldn't allow an image template to be used inside the multiple image template. I need to use a template for the image itself because my template randomises the image. If I just wanted to use a single image, then yes it would work fine. :-) Ðiliff «» (Talk) 12:46, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oops; I didn't noticed that part. Then a table or div tags may better. I've a similar use in my common user page; but only one random image at a time. :) Jee 13:20, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Image rotated 90 degrees

I'm trying to upload a photo of Kenneth Johnson (producer), but Wikipedia rotates the image onto its side when I upload it (see the file here). Searching the archives I see that someone had the same problem three years ago, but although they solved it then, their discussion doesn't help me, since ukepat doesn't explain how he was able to upload a version which Wikipedia won't automatically rotate. What do I do?--NukeofEarl (talk) 17:22, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the answer to the question, but your image can't be used as its use does not satisfy the non-free content criteria. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:26, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    Why is that?--NukeofEarl (talk) 17:35, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The licensing/copyright issue can be dealt with by providing evidence of permission as described in the tag I just added to the image page. The rotation issue can be fixed by using an image editing application such as Photoshop to rotate the image and then uploading the rotated image.--ukexpat (talk) 17:39, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This rationale seems incorrect: "While this purpose could be served with a free use photo, I believe this non-free photo is actually preferable on legal terms, since I have received express permission from Kenneth Johnson (both the subject of the photo and its owner) to use it on Wikipedia." Since when do we prefer or accept for Wikipedia only images? --NeilN talk to me 17:44, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We don't. WP:NFCC#1 says "No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." As the subject is alive, there is no justification for a non-free image. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:49, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh boy. It would be nice if the Image Upload Wizard let you know that photos of living persons have such stringent requirements; I'd never have guessed it from how few articles on living persons lack infobox photos. Unfortunately I think I'll have to just let this one be deleted. The e-mail I got from the owner giving his permission naturally doesn't have the legal language required by WP:CONSENT, and I wouldn't feel right about asking him to type up such an e-mail to wikimedia. Thanks for the help anyway.--NukeofEarl (talk) 18:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
NukeofEarl, out of curiosity, did you use this upload form? --NeilN talk to me 18:17, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The MediaWiki software as of 5 October 2011 checks image metadata such as EXIF and automatically rotates the image when it is uploaded. The file page may show the upright image, but thumbnails may be rotated. At the bottom of the file page there is a Metadata section— click on "Show extended details" to see the orientation.

The file may be stored on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. If the text below the image is "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons", then it is on Commons.

    • If the file is on Commons, then click on "description page there" to directly open the image on Commons.
      • If you are registered and logged in, then use the Request rotation link directly below the image and a bot will correct the orientation automatically.
      • If you are not registered, then edit the page and add {{rotate}} per the documentation.
      • See also: Commons:Rotation
    • If the file is on Wikipedia, then
      • the file will need to be downloaded, fixed using editing software and reuploaded.
      • the file could be moved to Commons (if it is allowed there — e.g. fair use images are not) and rotated by the bot there (see above).
      • If you don't have any of those abilities, then you can add {{Cleanup image|rotate 90 degrees clockwise}}, {{Cleanup image|rotate 90 degrees anticlockwise}}, or {{Cleanup image|rotate 180 degrees}} to the top of the file description page. You can also place a request on the Help Desk.

There are versions of Wikipedia in many languages. If you found an article in English Wikipedia that is in German, it is in the wrong place.
If the article is in German Wikipedia and you want to read it, there are browsers that have built in translation options and there are many free online translators where you can copy the text of the article and paste it into the translator and it will provide a machine translation - which are OK for getting the general gist of an idea, but are generally not very good at translating specifics. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 23:24, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For example, the citation {{Citation | author = Eusebius | title = Church History | at = 3.25.1–7 | year=c. 303–25}} renders as "Eusebius (c. 303–25), Church History, 3.25.1–7 {{citation}}: Check date values in: |year= (help)". According to MOS:DATERANGE the preferred form would be "c. 303 – c. 325", although that produces the same error. "303–325" works, but omits the circa. "c. 303" works, but omits the range. I've tried various other combinations without success. I assume this is some overzealous editing somewhere in the bowels of template:citation, but I've not yet managed to follow that code far enough to find where, yet. Any suggestions? United States Phantom F4 Livery and museum locations

There are at least two Phantom f4's at the Pima Air and Space Museum, Tucson, Arizona. One is inside with Thunderbird white and red livery (7).

You can mention that on the talk page of the article to which you want that statement added, with a reliable source to that effect. It isn't obvious whether you want that mentioned in an article about the airplane or in an article about the museum. If the museum's own web page mentions the airplanes, that would be a reliable source for that purpose. What article do you want updated? Robert McClenon (talk) 16:21, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Rope strange redirection

A very specific term Rope (torture) appears a redir to a general Rope which in turn says nothing about a rope torture. What should I do about that? --CiaPan (talk) 08:51, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions: if you have enough information for an article with that title, then write one. If you have enough for a section in the rope article, add that. Otherwise, just leave it as it is. Britmax (talk) 08:56, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A brief article did exist until replaced by a redirect in 2009. Because the redirect seems inappropriate I have reverted it. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:03, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Help:Cite errors/Cite error included ref

i just need to confirm the correct place of birth for my sister son who is chris bush born in london not leytonstone 31.51.176.124 (talk) 11:59, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Leytonstone is an area in London. From what I can see on the internet, he was born in Leytonstone in London. - Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 12:18, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The error message in Chris Bush (English footballer) says "Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page)." and in the error message the blue text "help page" is a wikilink to the specific help page which describes the problem. The problem was caused by this edit which added a <ref> tag without a complete </ref> to terminate it. You need to undue that edit, and you can then address the mismatched brackets from an earlier edit which broke the wikilink for "London". As for the change which you were trying to make, the previous text had a reference, which you have left in there; if that reference is inaccurate, you will need to provide evidence of a more reliable published source to justify your change. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:23, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    type size

I am only 56 years old and have to struggle to read the font size on your pages. I was considering donating to Wikipedia but changed my mind for this reason. (The font on this message page is more readable than your pages.)

Speedy deletion of article "Mara Aranda" English version

The above mentioned article was tagged for speedy deletion for copyright reasons. Indeed, a large part of the text is a copy of the biography that appears on the website www.mara-aranda.com. I affirm that I, Christopher Baxter, am the manager and representative of the artist in question and have permission to use said subject material. Contacting the artist will confirm this and she will be happy to forward the relevant letter of consent. Thanks for your time and best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madam trobairitz (talkcontribs) 15:07, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

... and on the copyright issue, your affirmation here is no help. The process for donating copyrighted material is referred to in the message which you received on your user talk page. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:58, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The use of copyrighted material on Wikipedia from web sites or books is not easy to work. Wikipedia will only allow copyrighted material if the material has been released under a Creative Commons copyleft for use anywhere else. Copyright owners sometimes assume that releasing the copyrighted material for use on Wikipedia only is sufficient. It is not. The release has to permit general reuse. In this case, the artist may not want to release the biography for general reuse, and we do not allow it to be released only for Wikipedia. Also, even if the copyrighted material could be used, copyrighted material taken from private web sites is usually too promotional and non-neutral to meet Wikipedia's standards. Importing image files and Chemboxes for articles

Thanks, Joflaher — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joflaher (talkcontribs) 16:36, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the use of a copyrighted image that I have permission to use

I have asked the owner of an image for permission to use it on the Lawrie Sanchez page as there are no other images available in the public domain/for free.

The owner's reply was "I don't have any objections to you using that image on his Wikipedia page, as long as you include my copyright line in the text associated with the image as follows: Image © Gary Hynard 2007".

Is it acceptable policy to put this copyright info underneath the image on a Wikipedia page?
