I think you have got it something wrong about [[WP:COMMONNAME]], and should read it again; it stipulates no reason to represent an icorrectly written name. The fact that many Western media write names incorrectly based on pronunciation or use the names which are not the actual versions of that person's name in his language or in some cases here Russian transliteration due to Russian imperialism and the still lingering impact on Western sources. Do we write "Kiev" or "Kyiv", because there should be a pretty strong case for the former in that case. Search Heorhii Gongadze in Google Search and almost all Ukrainian sources nowadays use that version which is the correct one base on official Ukrainian Latin script. The same way Lukašenka is official in Belarus Latin script, although Belarus being still de facto occupied by Russian isn't helping the case currently, but will surely be changed in the case of ceasation as was Kiev changed to Kyiv alongside other Ukrainian names back in the day.
