Abstract

The former British colony British Guiana borders Suriname in the east, Brazil in the south and southwest, Venezuela in the northeast, and the Atlantic Ocean in the north. The boundaries with Venezuela and with Suriname are in dispute. Guyana is one of the most underdeveloped and sparsely populated countries in South America.
