A good three stars!
We stayed at the Grand recently and made a reservation to eat dinner here.
The restaurant itself is small and provides an intimate dining experience. I would imagine it has nice resort views but we were seated away from the windows so it's hard to tell.
All of the employees are super friendly and did a great job.
The cocktails were nice. They were out of the ingredients for the one I wanted so I settled on something with some tequila and it was tasty.
I ordered the grouper for my entree. It was meh. Super bland. Way overpriced for what it was. I was super unimpressed.
Definitely a one and done for me but I'm glad we tried it out!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melanie H.Owens Cross Roads, AL4208Mar 14, 2024
Highly recommend for a beautiful upscale dining experience. The food was delicious and the hosts so friendly.

Stumbled upon this place because our original dinner plans fell through. Boy am I grateful they did. The grouper may look like a small meal but it's so filling and full of flavor, especially great for those who love sweet and savory together. My husbands beef tenderloin was wonderfully cooked and did not need a steak knife. As for the service, could not speak more highly of the greeter, bartender and others we came in to contact with. I mentioned once it was my husband and I's anniversary and they all congratulated us. The most props go to the server Christian who went above and beyond to make our meal a success. We will be back thanks to you!

This is one of the most delicious meals of my life. Everything was perfect and portions were large. Some fine dining has overly complicated dishes with tiny portions and strange combinations. That can be fun, but this is just really good food and good service. Perfect for a special occasion.

The food and drinks here are excellent and so is the service. It was a pleasant surprise for a convenient restaurant within the hotel. The hours are limited from 6 -9 pm so having a reservation is the best bet. I loved the way the smoked old fashioned came out in a blanton's bottle. Very nice touch. The sunset view from here is incredible.

The atmosphere and service is most of what you're paying for dining here. Although it doesn't open until 6pm so if you're going, don't go in the winter months as it's already dark and the view you are paying for can't be seen.
I got the mushrooms risotto and my parents got the beef tenderloin. The risotto was ok, but for $30 definitely not worth the price. The beef tenderloin was cooked well and tasted good, but the portions were surprisingly small for a meal costing over $60.
We got the bananas foster cake and the bread pudding for dessert. Both were good and the only two things I felt were worth the price we paid for them.
The thing I was bothered by was that when making reservations, if you don't cancel 48 hours prior they can charge you up to $50 per person and make you provide your card prior to reserving. We made reservations so we could see the grounds at the Grand and it was pouring rain the whole day. I would have called and cancelled so we could come another day. However, I didn't want to be charged $200 so we kept the reservation.
The meal itself is definitely not worth $200 for 3 adults and a toddler. However, if you get to see the view and walk the grounds, it might be worth going.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jess P.Nashville, TN08May 13, 2023
Wow! My husband and I came here for our one year anniversary and our entire experience was just amazing! We had reservations for 7:30 and we're able to get a spot right in front of the window that overlooks the bay right at sunset. It was gorgeous! We both got steaks, he got the Ribeye and I got the tenderloin. By far some of the best steaks we have both ever had! The food was great, the service was great, the atmosphere was great!!! Definitely will be back next time we're in town.

We decided to eat at Southern Roots after watching the sun set over Mobile Bay. The restaurant is located in the Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama with incredible views of Mobile Bay. It's a good idea to make a reservation as their seating is limited, and they tend to fill up on weekends. SR does not seem to have a dress code as our party were all dressed casual. Shorts, Ts and flip flops. But the menu screams white table cloth.
Their wine list is nice with many selections of our favorites. I chose the Elouan Pinot Noir for our meal. I came close to ordering the Belle Glos Pinot, but the Elouan is a tremendous wine, and it was priced right.
The menu has many appetizing dishes, and we ordered a nice sampling of many dishes. They have a kids menu, as well, with buttered noodles, burgers and chicken tenders.
For appetizers, we ordered the Crab Cake. It comes with only 1 Cake, but it's big enough for 2 people to enjoy. It is not your typical crab cake as it has spinach in it, and it was very creamy. Delicious, but I have not had any crab cake like it before.
For their specials that night, they had Triple Tail as their fish of the day, and the dish that the waiter described sounded delicious. They were also serving an aged ribeye which also sounded delicious. In fact, we ordered 2 of them medium rare! Seasoned expertly, cooked perfectly and just a delicious dish!!! The wife asked our waitress about the Seared Scallops, and she responded with "good". Puzzling. Not the response that we were looking for from a professional wait staff member at such a nice restaurant. Manager needs to retrain the staff, IMO.
Anyway, she ordered the Scallops and they were amazing. I'm glad that she wasn't spooked by the server's response. They were truly amazing.
We also ordered the Shrimp and Grits which were very good. Kids loved their chicken tenders and burgers.
All in all, a great experience and one that we will experience again.
