The Verge’s badging and licensing policy

Disclosure and information on how The Verge works with external companies to license our reviews, guides, and quotes

Since we launched The Verge in November 2011, our team has been obsessed with the latest gadgets, cell phone releases, obscure transportation, and tech we didn’t even know we needed. Over the last decade there has been a tremendous amount of innovation in products that have shaped how we interact and connect with the world around us. But for every great piece of tech, most products aren’t worth checking out or even buying. The good news is that our reviews program and buying guides are designed to keep you more informed and help make that purchase decision even easier for you.

The Verge tests and recommends products on a weekly basis awarding badges in various categories. We are constantly checking out products ranging from innovative start ups to all of the big tech companies. Here are the current badge programs across the Verge.

The Verge Reviewed

The Verge product reviews program evaluates products across a variety of consumer electronics categories, including smart phones, smart home, PCs and laptops, wearable devices, and more. We choose which products we will review based on a number of factors, including audience interest and uniqueness of the product.

What can be licensed:

  • A Verge review score
  • Must be from a review published in the last 12 months
  • Must be for a product that received a score of 6.0 or higher
  • Should be shown as “Verge Review: 8/10” or “The Verge: 8/10”

Just like all gadgets, we’re constantly evolving our reviews program to better serve The Verge’s audience, like recently moving to a 10-point scale. You can read more about The Verge’s editorial ethics here, and how our reviews team scores products here.

The Verge Recommends

While we review many tech products at The Verge, there are some that we don’t review, but may recommend to The Verge’s audience in our buying guides.

Verge Buying Guides are an extension of our product reviews and serve to provide purchase recommendations in a variety of categories that readers might be looking for. Each buying guide is built off of first-hand experience and testing of the products and gets updated throughout the year as new products come out or are tested in our reviews program. With buying guides we typically offer a few options to choose from and they are frequently updated.
