Police have made two arrests in connection with a robbery of a watch dealer who is said by his family to have taken his own life in its aftermath.

CCTV appeared to show Oliver White, 27, being placed in a headlock by one of the two unarmed assailants, before the pair made off with several high value watches at around 2.50pm on Saturday.

Mr White was later found dead by police who attended a location just over a mile from his family home in Shepperton, Surrey at around 8.15pm the next day.

In a statement, his parents said it was their “belief” that their son “took his own life due to the anguish and distress of this terrible incident”.

Police confirmed they have made two arrests in connection with the robbery at 247 Kettles in Richmond, south-west London.

A Met Police spokesman said: “A woman, aged in her 30s, has been released under investigation.

“A man, also aged in his 30s was arrested on Wednesday, May 29 and bailed pending further enquiries.”

They were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

A spokesman for 247 Kettles posted a statement on Instagram in which they claimed Mr White should have “never been alone” at the premises on Saturday and that such a large amount of watches “should’ve never been on display”.

On Thursday, police repeated calls for anybody who recognises the two suspects pictured in the CCTV images to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Scott Mather, from the Met’s Flying Squad, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts remain with Mr White’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.

“We would ask that they are given the privacy they need to grieve.”

He added: “We are working tirelessly to get them the answers they need and are making good progress with our investigation.

“We urge anyone who has information that could assist us to get in touch as soon as possible.”
