USMNT midweek viewing guide: Looking for trophies, promotion playoffs

McKennie, Weah, CCV, and Wingo could lift silverware; Sargent and Lund in promotion playoffs.

Monday

No notable USMNT players in action. Liverpool visit Aston Villa at 3pm on USA, while Barcelona host Real Sociedad on ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at the same time. For any Concacaf sickos out there, Guyana is visiting Trinidad & Tobago for a friendly at 7pm.

Tuesday

  • Emmen vs Dordrecht, 12:45p: 20-year-old Korede Osundina has picked up 4 goals and 5 assists for Dordrecht in 1,077 minutes this season on loan from Feyenoord. Dordrecht’s fourth-place finish in the Eerste Divisie table qualified them for Eredivisie promotion playoffs; they meet 7th-place Emmen in the quarterfinal.
  • Basel vs Stade Lausanne, 2:30p: German-American forward Maurice Maloney has 3 goals and 2 assists for Basel in 728 minutes this season after arriving from Bundesliga side Augsburg. Basel are third of six in the relegation group of Switzerland’s top tier, 8 points above the relegation playoff.

Wednesday

  • Kilmarnock vs Celtic, 2:30p on Paramount+, CBS Sports Golazo: Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic will be champions of Scotland with a win or a draw over Killie on the road.
  • Atalanta vs Juventus, 3p on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, FuboTV (free trial): Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, and Juve meet Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final.
  • Chivas vs América, TIME TBD on Peacock, Telemundo, UNIVERSO, FuboTV: Cade Cowell and #6 seed Chivas host Alex Zendejas and #1 América in the first leg of Liga MX playoff semifinals. Chivas are unbeaten in their last 9 matches.
  • Monterrey vs Cruz Azul, TIME TBD: Right now it’s not clear whether this game will be played Wednesday or Thursday. Brandon Vázquez and #4 seed Monterrey host #2 Cruz Azul in Liga MX’s other playoff semifinal. Cruz Azul are unbeaten in their last 7 matches.
  • FC Cincinnati vs Atlanta United, 7:30p: Miles Robinson, Lucho Acosta, Matt Miazga, Roman Celentano, and FC Cincy host Caleb Wiley and the Five Stripes in MLS.
  • Real Salt Lake vs Seattle Sounders, 9:30p: Diego Luna, Fidel Barajas, and RSL face Obed Vargas, Josh Atencio, Reed Baker-Whiting, and the Sounders in this MLS battle.

  • Sevilla vs Cádiz, 1:30p on ESPN Deportes, ESPN+, FuboTV: Chris Ramos and Cádiz need to pick up 5 points on Celta Vigo to get out of La Liga’s relegation zone, with 3 games left to play.
  • Paksi SE vs Ferencváros, 1:30p: Henry Wingo and Ferencváros have already won Hungary’s first division this season; they now have a chance to lift another trophy in Hungary’s Magyar Kupa final. Paksi are second in the top tier this season, so it’s first against second in the cup final.
  • Celta Vigo vs Athletic Bilbao, 4p on ESPN+: Luca de la Torre and 17th-place Celta host Athletic Club, who are 5th in La Liga.
  • CF Montréal vs Columbus Crew, 7:30p: Aidan Morris, Patrick Schulte, and the Crew make the trip to Quebec to meet Montréal in MLS action.
  • DC United vs NY Red Bulls, 7:30p: Ted Ku-DiPietro, Kristian Fletcher, and DC host John Tolkin and the Red Bulls in MLS.
  • Orlando City vs Inter Miami, 7:30p: Duncan McGuire and Orlando host Benja Cremaschi, Drake Callender, and Inter Miami in MLS play.
  • Philadelphia Union vs NYCFC, 7:30p: Jack McGlynn and the Union meet NYCFC at home in MLS.
  • Chicago Fire vs Charlotte FC, 8:30p: Brian Gutíerrez, Chris Brady, and the Fire host Charlotte FC in MLS.
  • Minnesota United vs LA Galaxy, 8:30p: Jalen Neal and the Galaxy go on the road to face Minnesota in MLS play.
  • Nashville SC vs Toronto FC, 8:30p: Walker Zimmerman, Shaq Moore, and Nashville welcome Toronto FC in MLS action.
  • St. Louis City vs LAFC, 8:30p: Timothy Tillman and LAFC visit Aziel Jackson and St. Louis in MLS.
  • Colorado Rapids vs Vancouver Whitecaps, 9:30p: Djordje Mihailovic, Sam Vines, Zack Steffen, and the Rapids welcome the ‘Caps into town for this MLS match.

Thursday

  • Las Palmas vs Real Betis, 1:30p on ESPN Deportes, ESPN+ (free trial), FuboTV: Johnny Cardoso and 6th-place Betis visit Las Palmas, who are 14th in La Liga.
  • Leeds United vs Norwich City, 3p: Josh Sargent and Norwich have everything to play for after the first leg of the Championship Playoff semifinal finished 0-0 at home. The second leg at Elland Road will decide who reaches the final. Brenden Aaronson, on loan at Union Berlin, will be eagerly watching to see if his parent club Leeds can return to the Premier League.

Also in action:

  • Stabæk vs Lyn, 12p: Stabæk have quite the American connection right now, with Bob Bradley their manager, Michael Bradley an assistant, plus young Americans Thomas Roberts (formerly of FC Dallas), and Chris Hegardt getting minutes for them in Norway’s second division. It’s early in the season, but Stabæk are second in the table, looking to return to the top tier after being relegated last season.
  • Lugano vs Winterthur, 2:30p: Former Columbus Crew left back Milton Valenzuela has played with Argentina at U20 and U23 level, but appears to be USMNT eligible after his 4 years in Ohio. Lugano are currently second in Switzerland’s top tier, battling for a Champions League place next season.

Friday

  • Palermo vs Sampdoria, 2:30p: Kristoffer Lund and Palermo finished 6th in Serie B, landing them a spot in the playoff quarterfinals (the winner of the playoff bracket will be promoted to Serie A next season). Palermo's journey begins with a single knockout game against 7th-place Sampdoria.
  • Southampton vs West Brom, 3p: Daryl Dike will be eagerly watching as West Brom play the second leg of their Championship Playoff semifinal. There was no score in the first leg, it stands at 0-0 aggregate.

Also in action:

  • Vendsyssel vs SønderjyskE, 1p: José Gallegos and SønderjyskE are 10 points clear atop Denmark’s second division, looking for promotion back to the Superliga.
  • Mirándes vs Elche, 2:30p: Jonathan Gómez and 18th-place Mirándes (3 points above the relegation zone) host 8th-place Elche in La Liga 2.
  • St. Truiden vs Leuven, 2:45p: Kahveh Zahiroleslam and St. Truiden are third of six in Belgium’s Playoff ECL Group.
  • El Paso Locomotive vs Memphis 901, 9p: Brandan Craig and El Paso host Memphis 901 in the USL Championship. Memphis’ squad includes Emerson Hyndman and 19-year-old FC Dallas academy product Nighte Pickering.
