Communication is essential for building effective relationships. It involves transmitting information through various channels beyond just words, including body language, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, and vocal tones. While words are one form of communication, the key is conveying the intended message with fewer words to have a greater impact. Building strong relationships requires using communication skills like being polite, avoiding ambiguities, respecting others' opinions, and finding win-win solutions that take everyone's concerns into account. Mastering communication helps discern which relationships are worth investing in long-term versus those that are better as temporary acquaintances.
The document discusses different types of relationships including matrimonial, parental, societal, and corporate/professional relationships. It provides tips for building relationships through visibility, communication, and credibility. Maintaining relationships requires keeping in touch regularly, giving without expectation of something in return, and following up with connections every 6 months. This document summarizes core marketing concepts and their relevance, including needs, wants and demands; target markets, positioning and segmentation; offerings and brands; marketing channels; paid, owned and earned media; competition; impressions and engagement; value and satisfaction; supply chain; and marketing environment. It defines these key terms and discusses how they relate to developing effective marketing strategies.
The document discusses the four main types of competition: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly competition, and monopoly competition. Perfect competition is characterized by many small businesses, homogenous products, free entry and exit into the market, and perfect information. Monopolistic competition has many businesses but differentiated products, while oligopoly has a small number of interdependent competitors. Monopoly exists when there is only one provider of a product or service without close substitutes. Examples of each type are given.
This document defines and explains several core marketing concepts. It discusses needs and wants, demand, target markets, positioning, segmentation, offerings, brands, value, satisfaction, marketing channels, supply chains, competition, and the marketing environment. The key concepts covered are the difference between needs and wants, how demands arise from wants, the purpose and types of target markets, positioning, and segmentation strategies, and how companies address customer needs through value propositions, offerings, and brands.
This document discusses different types of market structures: monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopoly, and perfect competition. It provides characteristics and examples of each. Monopolistic competition involves many producers offering differentiated products. Oligopoly is dominated by a few firms, with high barriers to entry. A monopoly has a single seller controlling the market. Perfect competition has many buyers and sellers of homogeneous products.
Internal marketing involves treating employees as customers by developing systems and benefits that satisfy their needs. This includes staff training, generating interest through daily quotes on the intranet, and profiling staff members. Most internal marketing activities currently lack imagination and are dull, such as boring staff meetings and self-serving newsletters. More sophisticated techniques should be used, such as sending electronic newsletters and video messages to employees' homes. Special events and activities outside of work are also effective at promoting internal communication and company spirit.
The document discusses internal marketing of a trauma program. It emphasizes that the trauma coordinator needs to educate others within the facility about the trauma service and what it does. This includes educating EMS, physicians, nursing staff, administration and more. The trauma coordinator is responsible for finding opportunities to discuss the program at meetings, during rounds, and other forums. They should be prepared to articulate what the trauma program is and discuss metrics like patient volumes, characteristics, reimbursement challenges and strengths. Other tips include contributing to newsletters, providing educational sessions, and participating in community outreach.
International business involves the exchange of products and services across national borders. Companies pursue international expansion to increase profits, take advantage of product life cycles, and achieve economies of scale, or to respond to competitive pressures and saturated domestic markets. When considering international expansion, companies must gauge demand abroad, adapt products to foreign customer needs, and determine their entry strategy into foreign markets such as exporting, licensing, franchising, foreign direct investment, or establishing a foreign subsidiary. Barriers to international business include cultural, legal, political, and economic barriers like tariffs and trade restrictions.
There are two types of environmental factors that affect marketing: internal and external. Internal factors are forces within the firm like management changes, employee morale, and financial issues. External factors are forces outside of the firm that are unpredictable, like the microenvironment of suppliers, competitors, and customers, as well as larger macroenvironmental forces in society like demographics, the economy, technology, politics, and culture. Understanding both internal and external environmental factors is important for marketing management to build relationships with customers.

This document outlines 12 ways to become a more effective communicator. It discusses the importance of listening to understand other perspectives, dropping expectations of how conversations will go, looking for hidden meanings beyond literal words, respecting other opinions, maintaining eye contact, asking questions to involve others, mirroring body language to build rapport, being genuine, starting with positive feedback before criticism, keeping messages simple and focused, and practicing communication skills. Generally speaking, human relationships are reciprocal. According to research, we are fundamentally urged to belong to a community and form connections with others. At least in part, such ties are founded on the knowledge that assistance will be given to any of us who require it.
The implication of that is that we anticipate both providing and receiving assistance. When we are constantly the ones providing, we do not feel as though we are truly contributing, we do not experience any same sense of belonging.
When you only communicate with individuals when you need something from them, they’ll soon stop responding to your messages. Over time, it’s important to support and sustain your relationships. Only networking when you need something is not something you can afford.
You are aware that networking is advantageous for you and that it can lead to a variety of opportunities (business, social, or personal), but it is much easier said than done.
You won’t be able to establish personal or professional relationships or use them to further your career unless you have the proper networking abilities.
In this deck, you’ll learn;
The guide to effective networking
Why you need to network.
The basic rules that governs effective networking.
The proven strategies that add up to having a productive business networking.
Business networking is a powerful tool for business people to meet relevant people that can help them further their career, whether it is a new job or new clients.
Business networking is the act of interacting and conversing with other people to develop professional contacts and exchange information, usually in the setting of an event or meeting.
Networking helps individuals to establish and nurture long-term and mutually valuable relationships, popular with career-focused professionals.
The aim is usually to expand one’s circle of influence and acquaintances to enhance opportunities to further one’s career – whether it is a new job or promotion or to meet potential future clients, customers or business partners.
Invest time (and a little bit of money) into increasing your networks and relationships – personal and professional, and in the long-run, you will reap the benefits.

Beyond the Advance Presentation for By the Book 9John Rodzvilla
In June 2020, L.L. McKinney, a Black author of young adult novels, began the #publishingpaidme hashtag to create a discussion on how the publishing industry treats Black authors: “what they’re paid. What the marketing is. How the books are treated. How one Black book not reaching its parameters casts a shadow on all Black books and all Black authors, and that’s not the same for our white counterparts.” (Grady 2020) McKinney’s call resulted in an online discussion across 65,000 tweets between authors of all races and the creation of a Google spreadsheet that collected information on over 2,000 titles.
While the conversation was originally meant to discuss the ethical value of book publishing, it became an economic assessment by authors of how publishers treated authors of color and women authors without a full analysis of the data collected. This paper would present the data collected from relevant tweets and the Google database to show not only the range of advances among participating authors split out by their race, gender, sexual orientation and the genre of their work, but also the publishers’ treatment of their titles in terms of deal announcements and pre-pub attention in industry publications. The paper is based on a multi-year project of cleaning and evaluating the collected data to assess what it reveals about the habits and strategies of American publishers in acquiring and promoting titles from a diverse group of authors across the literary, non-fiction, children’s, mystery, romance, and SFF genres.

-Questions to be Addressed
1. How does the meaning of the poem evolve as we progress through each stanza?
2. How do similes and metaphors enhance the imagery in "Still I Rise"?
3. What effect does the repetition of certain phrases have on the overall tone of the poem?
4. How does Maya Angelou use symbolism to convey her message of resilience and empowerment?
2. Relationships are
the Key To Success
Whether you are trying to attract new customers,
expand your opportunities, or just looking for
more meaningful business relationships, your
connections are the most important resources
you will ever have. Surround yourself with
amazing people and you will always find success.
3. Have a Connection Plan
1
As part of your weekly tasks, make time to
connect with new people, reconnect with old
contacts, and strengthen your current
relationships. Give yourself a target and
schedule it. You will find it is easier and you won’t
let relationships and opportunities slip.
4. Be Authentic: Have a WHY
2
People want to do business with those they know,
like, and trust. To be trustworthy, you must be
genuine. Have a strong passion and purpose
behind what you do. What do you believe in?
When people ask, “What do you do?” can you get
them excited because you have a powerful WHY?
5. Give Value First
3
When meeting people, don’t look for ways they
can help you. Actively seek out cues for ways you
can add value to their lives. How can you provide
resources that will help them in their business?
What about providing referrals? Before your next
interaction, set your intention to adding value.
6. Ask Awesome Questions
4
When connecting with others, get really good at
asking questions about them. Become insatiably
curious about everyone you meet. Often, we are
just waiting for our turn to speak, but we forget
that our most important skill to develop is that of
listening, and more importantly, understanding.
7. Have a Three-Way
5
Our world is made up of a network of
interdependent relationships between many
people. Find ways to include more people in the
conversation. Train yourself to look for signals in
conversations that would be good reasons to
connect them to another person.
8. Be a Master Introducer
6
Identify opportunities to connect two or more
people and practice being an introducer. Promote
people to each other in a way that gets them
excited to meet and feel empowered. You will
become known as a connector and there is
nothing more powerful than a warm introduction.
9. Don’t Rely on Technology
7
Often we mistake tools like social media, email,
and texting as replacements to real connections.
Make it a major part of your plan to have face to
face meetings and genuine interactions. Don’t
fall into the trap of seeing your digital hyper-
connectivity as adequate relationship building.
10. Use “You/Because”
8
Practice this. When meeting people, ensure you
use the word “YOU” as it is the number one word
we like to hear. When you combine it with the
word “because,” we increase the level of buy-in
to well over 90%. Keep in mind that your
“because” must be genuine and relevant. Try it.
11. Be Interesting
9
Read books, engage in high level conversations,
and challenge yourself to think. When you get
into conversations, make it a habit to try and
increase the level of the discussion (without
being a know-it-all). If you want to attract
interesting people, you have to be interesting.
(PS – I just thought this
image was hilarious)
12. Pay Attention
10
Always be on the lookout for opportunities. To
connect, to listen, and to observe. When you
start seeing yourself as a genuine connector, you
will quickly find ways to add value and cultivate
amazing, long-lasting relationships. It takes effort,
it takes intention, and it takes practice. Enjoy it!
