According to Maranaw folklore, this world was created by a great Being in an unknown number of days. It is divided into seven layers - the uppermost layer is inhabited by humans, the second by dwarfs, and the third under seas and lakes by nymphs. The sky also has seven layers guarded by huge birds and inhabited by angels in each layer. Heaven, on the seventh layer of the sky, is where good people's spirits go after death and where a tree of life tracks the lives of people on earth through leaves with their names. Souls are kept in jars in heaven guarded by a monster with a thousand eyes.

2. When Bantugan returned from successfully defending the kingdom in battle, the king had commanded that no one speak to Bantugan. Sad and alone, Bantugan decided to leave.
3. Bantugan traveled until he collapsed at the gates of the Kingdom-Between-Two-Seas, where he died. The kind king and princess took in his body. Bantugan's parrot revealed his identity and his soul was returned to his body.

Thesis: Curious Creatures
The nature of my research into climate change is supported by my strong distaste for the “profit over planet” mentality our society has developed. Because of greed, our world has been suffering due to man made issues such as deforestation, carbon emission pollution, and toxic waste in our waters. These “man” made atrocities are affecting not only our population and the environment, but have been devastating for every other species, as well. For example, the Amazon Rainforest fire in 2019 wiped out millions of animals, and the bushfires in Australia resulted in a 30% decrease in the koala population. In my research, I dug deep into climate change, also known as global warming, to truly discover just how negatively our actions as humans are impacting the world, itself.
For my thesis, I chose to create a children’s book that was centered around the animals of the rainforest in order to further assist the future generations in getting on board with protecting our environment! Massive deforestation has lead to many fires and loss of habitat in the Amazon, so I focused my narrative around that. I introduce the charming animals, one by one, until a toucan spots some rather “curious creatures” in the forest. The toucan uses words to describe construction equipment as if they were animals themselves, “bright silver claws and gripping strong teeth.” My goal for this picture book is to leave children wondering why these creatures are cutting the animals’ homes down. If only one child was impacted by this, and carried that message with them into adulthood, it would all have been worth it.
My research was the fuel that I needed in order to complete my thesis. With every article I read about sea levels rising, permafrost emissions, or the long list of endangered and extinct species I became more and more passionate about my work. I wanted the animals in my story to portray the innocent creatures that they are, hoping for a sympathetic audience

The origin of this world (maranao)
- 1. The Origin of This World (Maranao) from the Anthology of Philippine Myths by Damiana L. Eugenio Quarter 1: Lesson 2 Presented by: JARELENY D. NAVA Subject Teacher
- 2. 1According to Maranaw folklore, this world was created by a great Being. It is not known, however, wh o exactly is this great Being. Or how many days it took him to create this world.
- 3. 2This world is divided into seven layers. The earth has also seven layers. Each layer is inhabited by a different kind of being. The uppermost layer, for example, is the place we are inhabiting.
- 4. The second layer is being inhabited by dwarfs. These dwarfs are short, plump, and long-haired. They are locally known as Karibanga. The Karibanga are said to possess magical powers. They are usually invisible to the human eye.
- 5. The third layer of the earth which is found under the sea or lake is inhabited by nymphs. These nymphs also possess certain magical powers. It is stated in the story of Rajah Indarapatra that he met and fell in love with the princess-nymph with whom he had a child.
- 6. 3The sky also consists of seven layers. Each layer has a door which is guarded day and night by huge mythical birds called garoda.
- 7. The seventh layer of the sky is the seat of heaven which is also divided into seven layers.
- 8. Every layer in the sky is inhabited by angels. Maranaws believe that angels do not need food. They all possess wings with which they fly.
- 9. 4Heaven which is found on the seventh layer of the sky is where good people‘s spirits go after death.
- 10. Saints are assigned to the seventh layer while persons who ―barely made it are confined to the lower most layer which is found at the bottom of heaven.
- 11. 5It is in heaven where we find the tree-of- life. On each leaf of the tree-of-life is written the name of every person living on earth. As soon as a leaf ripens or dries and falls, the person whose name it carries also dies.
- 12. 6The soul of every person is found in tightly covered jars kept in one section of heaven.
- 13. This particular section of heaven is closely guarded by a monster with a thousand eyes, named Walo.
- 14. Walo, in addition to his thousand eyes, has also eight hairy heads. The epic Darangan speaks of Madale, Bantugan‘s brother and, Mabaning, Husb and of Lawanen, entering this section and retrieving the soul of Bantugan.
