The document outlines plans for three photo shoots for a dance style magazine. Shoot 1 features a model in a red coat, sequined shorts, and heels posing in a bedroom with forced warm lighting. Shoot 2 shows two models in revealing shorts and crop tops getting ready in a bedroom, with smoky eyes makeup and curled hair. Potential cover images include a close-up of a model holding sunglasses with styled hair and makeup. The final layout includes this image on the cover along with images on the contents page of models at makeup tables wearing revealing clothing to portray them getting ready for a night out.
The document provides hair and makeup ideas for a pop magazine cover photo shoot. For hair, the model will have curly hair as that style is commonly featured on magazine covers. Curly hair also works well since the cover artist will be female. The hair will be kept simple and natural. For makeup, the goal is a look that makes the eyes stand out to draw attention on the cover. A golden glitter look was liked as it is common for female artist covers and suits the glamorous personality of most pop stars.
This extended project explored whether fashion photography can be considered a form of art. Through research and four photo shoots experimenting with lighting, location, and artistic influences, the student found that fashion photography feeds the imagination and pushes boundaries of how clothing is presented, making it a blurred line with art. Audience feedback guided improvements between shoots. The final shoot combined fashion with inspiration from a famous painting to represent how trends can shape identities. The student concluded that fashion photography, with its creative techniques, can indeed be viewed as a form of art.
Rankin is a famous photographer from Glasgow known for his innovative style and ability to capture fun, flirty vibes in his photos. The document discusses four of Rankin's photos that inspired the writer, including one showing the gradual application of modern makeup, another featuring models with dark smoky eyes, a mysterious photo of a model with eyes emerging from smoke, and a controversial photo of a child's face covered in makeup. The writer is drawn to Rankin's contemporary, artistic style and wants to explore more controversial topics and working with models in their own photography.
This document summarizes and compares two photos that were inspired by pop art themes. The first photo by the author captures a model in a 2D, pop art style with bold colors and an off-center composition. The second photo by Kenneth Willardt was taken for a Maybelline campaign, with tight cropping and a spotty effect to resemble pop art. Both photos feature exaggerated poses and expressions enhanced by makeup, minimal bright colors, and lighting that highlights the faces in a way that captures attention and emphasizes the pop art inspiration.
The document discusses how the contents page of a magazine attracts its target audience. It references theorists Naomi Wolf and Marjorie Ferguson who discuss using attractive models and facial expressions to promote magazines. The document also references Trevor Millum who categorizes male facial expressions. The contents page features images of people looking away from the camera to appear edgy and fit the magazine's punk style. The stories and artists featured were chosen based on audience research to attract the target readership. The clear layout makes the contents easy for readers to understand.
The document discusses what attracts the magazine's audience. It uses red, black and white colors which are stereotypical of rock music. The red masthead stands out against the black background to grab attention. The £1.50 price appeals to the target working class audience. The front cover image makes direct eye contact to draw readers in. Consistent colors, professional layout, male models, and upcoming gig dates interest the intended male audience.
The document discusses the rationale behind design choices for a magazine cover. It explains that an attractive female model was used on the front cover to appeal to male readers, based on research finding 60% of the target audience is male. The model is looking directly at the camera with an inviting expression to intrigue readers without giving too much information. Short, catchy story lines and a simple color scheme with bold fonts and colors that match the cover photo make the design aesthetically pleasing. Consistent use of specific colors and fonts throughout creates a recognizable house style. The main story's phrase "Takes on the World" reflects the strength and courage of the featured artist, appealing to readers who aspire to be more like her.
1) The document outlines plans for a photo shoot for a pop music magazine, including briefing the model, Heidi, on appropriate clothing, hair, and makeup.
2) Photos will be taken both indoors and outdoors at locations like Roker Beach without backdrops, relying on natural lighting and using a flash if needed.
3) The goal is to portray feelings of happiness and relatability through the photos, with a focus on Heidi, pastel and neon colors, and minimal props.
My model will be male, resembling my male avatar with brown hair and a short, trendy style. I will use Zach Lillis as my actor since he has a similar look. For inspiration, I want to mimic the style of artists like Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, or Shawn Mendes.
For the costume, Zach will wear a simple v-neck t-shirt, jeans, watch, and a backwards cap to reflect the genre and generation. No props will be used so the focus is solely on Zach.
The photo pose will have Zach either sitting on a bench looking into the distance or standing looking into the distance with nice scenery, mimicking popular album cover styles to attract
The document summarizes a photo shoot conducted by the author to take pictures for the front cover of their magazine. Over 100 photos were taken of the model, Chelsey Denton, indoors in front of a blue screen. Different lighting techniques, poses, outfits, and framing were tested to find the most effective close-up shot for the cover. After reviewing the full-body shots, another shoot will be scheduled to improve photos for the double-page spread. The selected cover photo features Chelsey in a red jumpsuit with her hair up to avoid shadows, drawing the viewer's gaze to her face.
The document discusses conventions used in pop magazines and how the author followed these conventions in developing their own pop magazine called "Pop-Tastic". Key conventions discussed include using a masthead slightly behind the artist's head on the front cover, including a fashion section, and featuring the main artist filling the frame of the front cover image. The author also discusses font choices, color schemes, and layout elements like double page spreads that are common across pop magazines. The goal was to develop a magazine that would attract the target audience by following established conventions while also adding some unique and distinguishing elements.
This document analyzes several existing products including magazines, websites, and fanzines. Key points analyzed include graphics, images, fonts, colors, layouts, and content. For a magazine cover, the summary notes the professional studio images, ethnic diversity to appeal to different audiences, and use of classic fonts. A makeup brand website is examined, highlighting the bright pink color scheme, studio image of the founder applying makeup, and directory for easy navigation. Finally, a fanzine's hand-drawn comic images, horror content and fonts, and simplistic color scheme are called out. The document provides examples and inspiration for the creator's own planned magazine-style publication.
The photographer had the main model wear minimal makeup at the beginning of the shoot to focus on music rather than appearance for a new magazine. As the shoot progressed, the photographer had the model add lipstick to portray the "fame" look and meet conventions of a typical artist. The photographer wanted an indie artist on the cover in simple, comfortable clothing like a high-necked top based on image research.
The artist kept the mise-en-scene of the photo shoot very neutral with simple makeup looks, monochrome black and white clothing, and a dark background. The minimal makeup, basic black and white outfits, and lack of distracting props allowed the colored lighting effects to stand out. A few props like a vintage chair and guitar were incorporated to add sophistication and emphasize the music theme of the magazine.
This double page spread analysis focuses on Amy Winehouse lying provocatively in bed. The large main image of Winehouse takes up the entire page and is intended to attract readers. The masthead "Amy's Ink House" references Winehouse's tattoos and positions her as queen of tattoos. Though a music magazine, the article explores Winehouse's talent as a tattoo artist running a tattoo parlor. The large image and small text accentuate that the celebrity is the main focus rather than her words. The greyscale color scheme suggests the target audience is adult rather than children.
The document discusses four potential images that could be recreated for a magazine spread. It analyzes each image, describing elements like the lighting, poses, and implied meanings. The first image features a model with her shoulder facing the camera, enhancing her sexualization. The second uses heavy makeup and red lipstick on the model to portray sexuality. The third is in soft black and white, with the model having a serious facial expression appropriate for the pop rock genre. The fourth is an extreme close-up of a model smiling slightly, aiming to attract both male and female readers of different ages with its minimal makeup.
This document discusses various poses and shots used in magazine covers and analyzes their effectiveness. It notes that direct eye contact between the artist and audience helps engage the viewer. Poses that are intriguing but not overly inviting create mystery. Medium shots that show the artist from the waist up or medium-long shots are commonly used. Dark, contrasting colors against a light background help the artist stand out as the focal point. Simple yet casual poses can appeal to a wide target audience.

The document provides information about the research Jodie Wood conducted for her project. She researched several fashion and culture magazines, including i-D and Vogue. For i-D, she notes its minimalist aesthetic and focus on photography. For Vogue, she focuses on analyzing covers. She also researched perfume advertisements in magazines and found they commonly use models, black and white photos, and themes of romance/power to sell products. Additionally, she analyzed perfume commercials and found they often use themes of drama and empowerment. From her research, Jodie Wood plans to incorporate editing techniques, aesthetics, and empowering imagery in her own work. She conducted a questionnaire but found only 25% of respondents read
The images used in the magazine represent the target audience of women aged 17-25 interested in fashion. The model, Alicia, who is nearly 17, is featured on the cover, contents page, and in an interview piece. Alicia wears normal clothing that the target audience could purchase themselves, as opposed to designer clothes typically seen in magazines. Her alternative style with piercings and unusual hair is not often represented. The photos were taken by the author using Alicia's clothes and backgrounds around her new home, including a brick wall. Some test photos had issues with lighting, poses, or outfits and were not used. Photoshop was used to edit photos, such as changing one image to black and white and adjusting

Anthony DeStefano presented on technological strategies for combating counterfeit medicines. He argued that standardized identification tools and spectral libraries are needed as most APIs and drug products are made outside the US. Industry requires sophisticated tools while governments can help drive standardization and broad detection. The USP could help provide standardized reference materials and spectral libraries to facilitate global identification efforts against counterfeits. Coordination between industry, governments, and organizations like USP is essential to addressing this global problem.
This document provides the assignment brief for a music video research and pre-production project. The assignment includes 5 tasks: 1) analyzing music video styles, codes and conventions; 2) generating ideas for a music video; 3) producing a budget and staffing plan; 4) creating a proposal and treatment; and 5) writing a script. The assignment must be completed individually and submitted through a blog by November 12th, 2012. Grading criteria are provided for three relevant qualifications to assess skills in music video pre-production, single camera techniques, and music video production.
Audience feedback helped improve the music video, digipak, and advert in several key ways:
Feedback from initial class presentations helped ensure the music video included a clear narrative, lip syncing, and ties between visuals and music. Surveys found audiences wanted fashionable clothing and specific scenes like close-ups and fun locations, which were included. Feedback also helped establish the brand identity and ensured the digipak and advert maintained consistency with the music video's theme. Gathering input at various stages allowed refinements that created a final product meeting audience expectations.

Minor edits will be made in Photoshop, like converting to black and white with a red tint, to match the magazine's style.
The interviews provided useful feedback on incorporating fashion and art, using a variety of styles, and highlighting diversity in models. All three interviewees felt that fashion and art go together well, especially for avant-garde or runway styles. The science of resumes, the "eyes" have it.
A subset of notes from my first book on resumes: Resume Psychology.
The goal of any resume should be an offer, not an interview.
Using this information will make your resume easier to read given what we know about how the eyes process text and the impact of the ATS.
We review very the origins of Resume Psychology.
How "expertise" beats "experience."
The psychology of the "offer" mindset.
This accomplished by making the resume easy to read.
We do these things because there are so many variables we cannot control or know when submitting a resume. RP allows us to avoid or improve these variables. (the things we don't know, that we don't know).
The hardest thing to understand is the eyes will gravitate to the white-space, control the white space and you control where the eye goes to read, skim or scan text.
Make that text relevant to the opening and the reader will be more inclined to "feeling" the need to hire you instead of only interviewing you.
We get into the inter-puplllary distance (IPD), eye-span and fixation points. Things graphic designers understand and apply it to the resume.
We discuss the fixation point and align the resume text to leverage that detail, instead of ignoring it.
We also review which areas of the resume to place your strongest content to maximize your presentation.
We discuss readability rules to follow.
We discuss
- the 3-Rs of resumes.
- the 4-C's of resumes
- the challenge of Serif Fonts
- TMI
- Kiss of Death
- Word classifications to avoid
- Layouts to re-consider & Avoid
- Font features to AVOID.
We also review testing the resume for being copy-paste friendly.
How to brain-storm resume content.
Learning to love numbers even if you hate math and how to speak to numbers with any experience.
We share a list of things to leave off the resume that impact its readability once inside the ATS.

1. Shoot Plan 1
Shoot

Clothing Hair Makeup Props Location Lighting
Shoot 1 Red coat with fur
collar, sequin
shorts and black
heels. I chose a
red jacket which
added a pop of
colour and also
created a fierce
appearance along
with the fur,
which portrayed
her as upper class
and wealthy.
Finally my
decision on the
shorts was that
they were very
revealing and
provocative which
attracts the male
audience.
I have
featured a
down,
backcombed,
wavy
hairstyle.
This is very
feminine and
big hair is
what you
expect to see
in dance
style
magazines.
I opted to go
with dark
smoky eyes,
very heavy
foundation. All
of these
elements will
work together
and produce a
flawless finish
which all the
girls who
purchase this
magazine will
aspire to be
like.
Sunglasses is the
only prop I have
chosen to use for
this shoot. The
sunglasses give the
artist more
dominance and
power. They also
portray the artist
as having a higher
profile than the
audience as she
doesn’t look
directly at the
audience

I chose to use
forced warm

Shoot 2 The two females in
these images are both
wearing revealing
shorts which will
seduce the male
audience. The crops
tops they will both be
wearing will also
reveal flesh to the
audience and appear
very provocative.
The hair again
will be down
with loose curls
and be finished
with backcomb
for volume. This
create s the
hairstyle which
most girls would
wear on a night
out clubbing.
I decided for
both females to
have a smoky
eyes alongside
red lipstick. The
red lipstick will
appear to be
seductive again
appealing to the
males.
I chose a
bedroom as the
location in order
to display two
females getting
ready for a night
out clubbing and
listening to the
newest dance
music in the
night clubs.
I decided to use
a force flash
which would
discard and
bleach out any
imperfections.
5. Front cover
I have hosen this image to feature on my front cover of my
magazine. To begin with we instantly see the prop situated in the
artists hand. I have chosen to use sunglasses as a prop as they are a
typical convention to see in a dance style magazine. The sunglasses
suggest that she is upper class, this is amplified by her stern gaze
lingering above. Moving onto her gaze, the artist appears to be
gazing to one side and not directly at the audience. This implies
that she is far too important to look directly at the audience. I have
made use of this gaze, as on my front cover I have positioned the
font in the direction which the artist is gazing in. This draws the
audiences attention towards the writing forcing them to read the
information.
I have heavily styled my artists , she has flawless hair, stunning
makeup, and fashionable clothing. All of these aspects will appeal
to my target audience. The target audience is predominantly male,
therefore they expect to see stunning females, as they’ll buy the
magazine in they see the ideal woman which they dream about.
However it will also attract the females too, as they’ll attempt to
imitate the makeup and style of the artists.
6. Double page spread
For my double page spread I chose to use a close up, side
profile shot of the artists. This shot was used in order for
the audience to immediately establish who the artist is. I
chose to feature sunglasses as a prop which creates a wall
between us and the artist. This portrays how this celebrity
is a higher class than us and also too famous to directly
look at the audience.
The hair, makeup and clothing are the same as what was
featured on the front of the magazine. I wanted to follow
these elements through, so that the audience would
instantly recognise her.
I did also choose to use forced lighting which discarded
any of her imperfections and if that didn’t succeed I also
altered it slightly in Photoshop to create a flawless final
appearance.
7. Contents Page
Finally for my contents page.
Throughout my images in my contents
page I wanted to create the impression
that two females were getting ready for
a night out. I achieved this by using
makeup and dressing tables as props.
Also as the audience opens the
contents page the images become more
informal as you want to invite the
audience in and make them feel
welcome, rather than intimidating
them.
The clothing they’re wearing is very
revealing. Such as the shorts reveal
their legs, and the crop tops reveal their
stomachs. The revealing clothing
attracts the males as it’s very
provocative and seductive.
