The document discusses the importance of oral language development and its connection to literacy. It covers stages of language development from infancy through elementary school age and conditions that support language learning. Additionally, it addresses components of reading development including phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, fluency, and comprehension.
The document discusses strategies for improving reading skills. It recommends reading materials that interest you on topics that are at your level or slightly challenging. It suggests reading in depth on a subject by reading multiple books on the same topic to build familiarity with ideas and vocabulary. For difficult material, it advises listening to audio versions first to become familiar with the rhythm and content. The key is to read a lot and recognize that understanding everything is not necessary to enjoy reading. Regular reading leads to improved reading ability over time.
The document discusses the language experience approach, a teaching method that uses students' own words and experiences to develop reading and writing skills. In this approach, students dictate stories about personal experiences to the teacher, who writes them down. The stories are then used as reading material to help students make connections between oral and written language. Key aspects of the approach include developing vocabulary and comprehension through repeated reading of self-generated texts, as well as follow-up lessons on grammar, spelling, and other skills. The approach draws on principles of learning from the familiar to unfamiliar and linking instruction to students' lives.
This document provides an overview of oral language development and its importance for early literacy. It discusses key findings from research that children who develop strong oral language skills have an advantage in later reading comprehension. The document outlines stages in language development from birth to age 6. It also describes 5 components of oral language and best practices for instruction, including shared book reading, songs/rhymes, storytelling, circle time, and dramatic play. Research supporting the effectiveness of these practices is referenced.
This document discusses principles and strategies for teaching young English language learners. It explains that young children acquire language naturally through social interaction and play. Effective teaching strategies include using routines, scaffolding, and making lessons fun, meaningful, and supported. Teachers should draw on theories from Piaget, Vygotsky and Bruner to create interactive lessons that build on children's innate language learning abilities.
The document provides suggestions for teachers to help develop students' oral proficiency and ability to speak English fluently. It recommends maximizing opportunities for student speaking practice through collaborative work, authentic tasks, and reducing teacher speaking time. A variety of speaking activities are described, including discussions, role-plays, interviews, and picture narration. Teachers should create a low-anxiety environment, provide feedback, and involve speaking practice both in and out of class to help students improve their speaking skills.
1) Independent reading, where students voluntarily choose reading materials to read on their own time and place, is important for reading achievement and school success.
2) Children who are read to regularly and have their questions answered tend to learn to read earlier and become more proficient readers. Proficient middle school readers also spend more leisure time reading.
3) Programs to promote independent reading should provide engaging reading materials, active parent involvement, and collaboration between schools, homes, and libraries.
K-1 Parent Workshop: How to Help with ReadingLauren Johnson
1) The document provides guidance for parents on how to help their children with reading at home. It discusses establishing a positive environment, reading with children daily, talking about books, and asking questions to check comprehension.
2) Specific guidance is given for supporting beginning readers, including doing picture walks before reading and prompting children to use context clues if they get stuck on a word.
3) The document emphasizes building reading confidence with easy books and re-reading, while also discussing sight words, phonics, and assessing reading level.
Teachers should focus on improving students' reading skills as it is important for developing other language abilities. There are three stages for teaching reading: pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading. Each stage has specific strategies to prepare students, aid comprehension during reading, and check understanding after reading. Some examples include making predictions, using context clues, and summarizing. Following this structured approach can help students learn to independently comprehend and analyze texts.
This document discusses key components of a balanced reading program: phonological awareness and phonics skills, sight words and vocabulary development, reading fluency, and comprehension strategies. It emphasizes teaching reading as an interactive process involving prediction, inference making, and critical thinking. Explicit instruction in reading strategies is needed to help students actively integrate information from texts with their prior knowledge.
Reading is a complex process that involves word recognition, comprehension, fluency and motivation. It requires the interaction between the reader's prior knowledge, information from the text, and the reading context. Comprehension is the main goal of reading, as without understanding the meaning, reading is just recognizing words. Teachers can help students' comprehension with strategies used before, during and after reading such as activating background knowledge, asking questions, summarizing and discussing ideas from the text.
This document discusses learning disabilities and provides definitions, classifications, causes and treatment strategies. It begins by defining learning disabilities according to the IDEA as disorders affecting psychological processes involved in language, speaking, reading, writing etc. It then classifies learning disabilities into academic types like dyslexia and developmental types and notes a high correlation between the two. Other sections discuss distinguishing learning disabilities from slow learning, recognizing criteria, language learning difficulties and their causes, treatment methods including remedial strategies like individual teaching, direct teaching and writing for reading.

Flashcards are introduced as a popular method that can be used for different themes over time through various matching and memory games. Model sentences demonstrate proper usage of new words through simple examples. Graphic organizers like maps and charts provide visual learning methods. The document encourages reusing activities and tailoring them to students' ages.
The document discusses three main approaches to teaching reading:
1. The Language Experience Approach (LEA) uses students' own words and experiences to create reading material. It helps develop language skills.
2. The Phonics Approach teaches the relationship between letters and sounds. It helps students recognize familiar words and decode new words.
3. The Sight Word Approach teaches high frequency words that are recognized instantly without sounding out. It provides a base for beginning reading.
Each approach has different activities to practice skills like matching pictures, word/letter hunts, blending sounds, and integrating language skills through poems. Videos and songs can also be used in phonics instruction.
The document discusses remedial teaching and online remedial education. It provides objectives of remedial teaching such as giving additional help to students who have fallen behind. It also discusses advantages and disadvantages of online remedial education, the role of teachers, and principles of remedial teaching such as identifying student needs and providing clear instructions. Analysis of results identifies the student's capacity level and areas for improvement to guide individualized reading instruction.
Support presentation for reading on three levels. Students first read the photographs, we distinguish between literal observations and subjective inferences, then we discuss the levels.
Teachers should encourage students to engage with and enjoy reading by selecting interesting texts on topics like health facts or global warming. Students should be encouraged to respond to what they read by discussing what it meant to them and how it made them feel. Prediction is an important reading skill, so teachers can provide clues from materials like book covers and headlines to help students anticipate the content. Reading assignments should match students' ability levels and fully make use of reading material by continuing discussion and related tasks beyond just the initial reading.

An explanation of The Daily 5 program promoted by Gail Boushey & Joan Moser. This presentation is an abridged version of the original produced by teachers at Wilson School in Davenport, Iowa.
Extensive reading is an approach to language learning that involves reading large amounts of material that is easy to understand. This helps learners infer the meanings of unknown words from context and improve their language skills. Free voluntary reading allows students to choose books they enjoy and read at their own pace, with minimal or no assessment, to promote enjoyment of reading. The teacher's role is to guide students in selecting materials and getting the most from the extensive reading program.

The Jewish Trinity : Sabbath,Shekinah and Sanctuary 4.pdfJackieSparrow3
we may assume that God created the cosmos to be his great temple, in which he rested after his creative work. Nevertheless, his special revelatory presence did not fill the entire earth yet, since it was his intention that his human vice-regent, whom he installed in the garden sanctuary, would extend worldwide the boundaries of that sanctuary and of God’s presence. Adam, of course, disobeyed this mandate, so that humanity no longer enjoyed God’s presence in the little localized garden. Consequently, the entire earth became infected with sin and idolatry in a way it had not been previously before the fall, while yet in its still imperfect newly created state. Therefore, the various expressions about God being unable to inhabit earthly structures are best understood, at least in part, by realizing that the old order and sanctuary have been tainted with sin and must be cleansed and recreated before God’s Shekinah presence, formerly limited to heaven and the holy of holies, can dwell universally throughout creation

Developing Student Reading Skills
2. “Reading Association ":-
We value the additional skills of students.
We recognise that reading is more effective when
we encourage the students to read.
We support students to develop their skills in
reading.
3. Some General Strategies for Helping Students to
Develop their Reading Skills:
When we read, our overall goal is to monitor our
understanding and make sure that we are getting
meaning from the printed page.
This comprehension monitoring is a process that is
critical for students to develop, and it is one which
students often overlook.
Encouraging the students to monitor understanding
and use strategies while reading is a critical gift that
will provide benefits throughout life.
4. Activity 1: Story talk
Talking about what you read is another way to help
students to develop language and thinking skills.
You won't need to plan the talk, discuss every story,
or expect an answer.
5. Activity 2: Write and draw on
Writing and drawing help the students to
become a better reader. Some students love to
be creative when it comes to drawing, and
illustrations add visual imagery to stories.
7. Activity 4: Read to me
It's important to read to the students, but
equally important to listen to them read to you.
Students thrive on having someone appreciate
their developing skills.
8. Activity 5: Attract students attention by their
interests.
Let the students read books that have famous
cartoon characters in it or let them read about the
video games the play.
10. Activity 6:
Assign a small, interesting book to students every
day/week/month, and the students get to choose
their book individually. At the end of the time
chosen by you AND the students, the students tell
their classmates the summary of the story/book.
You should emphasis to the students not to take
this as a Homework, but to make it interesting to
them.
11. Activity 7:
Include reading in their school day?? We should
make a small amount of time from, for example,
Arabic or Social studies, and students can read
their little books. It is also a great way to make
school a little bit interesting to students.
