2. Brief about our project.
Cloud deployment infrastructure allows on demand deployment of virtual systems
spread over multiple physical systems. It also contains a whole suite of applications
that allows management of virtual network, storage systems, usage accounting,
image management and many more.
There are Proprietary cloud management suites like Vmware Vcloud Director,
Microsoft System Center 2012R2 available in the market as private cloud deployment
is emerging as a lucrative market.
This project would create private cloud deployment architecture using open source
software stack which would be far more cost effective than proprietary solution.
3. About Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is where software application, data storage and
processing capacity are accessed over the internet.
Simply put, cloud computing is the outsourcing of your IT infrastructure via
the Internet. Rather than maintaining your own hardware and software
environment, cloud computing provides computing resources (such as
processor compute time and data storage) on demand via a service provider. It
is there when you need it, as much as you need, and you pay as you go and
only for what you consume. Cloud computing architectures follow the idea of
flexible resource sharing; this means that a companyâs usage of hardware
resources is dynamically adjusted to their actual needs at any time. Companies
start operating in an environment in which cloud services expand or contract
without the need for significant configuration changes.
4. The manifestations that we see of cloud
computing.
⢠SaaS â Itâs Software As A Service. It allows users to run existing online
applications. Itâs the easiest way to cloud compute and is where off-the-
shelf applications are accessed over the internet. For instance, Google Docs,
Microsoft OfficeWeb Apps, JayCut, Netsuite, SalesForce and Pixlr.com
5. ⢠Paas â Itâs Platform As A Service. Users can create their own cloud
applications using supplier-specific tools and languages. It provides
environment and tools for creating new online applications. For instance,
Windows Azure Platform & Google App Engine.
6. ⢠Iaas â Itâs Infrastructure As A Service. It allows users to run any applications
they please on cloud hardware of their own choice. It allows existing
applications to be run on a cloud supplierâs hardware. This means that
existing applications can be migrated from the company data center in
order to reduce mighty costs.

⢠Public Cloud â Here, computing resources are dynamically provisioned over the internet.
A third party service provider services as âutilityâ and invoices its subscribers based on the
use of computing resources.
⢠Private Cloud â Private cloud is delivered to a restricted set of customers (one or multiple
customers). In this case, a cloud infrastructure is often maintained for a specific
organization. Private clouds can be maintained on or off the premises of the organization
that accesses it.
⢠Community Cloud â Itâs a cloud environment in which multiple organizations access the
infrastructure based on similar needs. Community clouds are often used by a number of
departments within large organizations, including governments.
⢠Hybrid Cloud â These are models of multiple internal and external cloud providers within
one cloud infrastructure. Hybrid cloud models are likely to emerge as the most common
form of cloud computing in the future as they provide subscribers greater choice and
opportunities to access specific services within the same cloud without the need to switch
to an entirely different provider, if business needs change.
9. About OpenStack
The OpenStack project is an open source cloud computing platform for all
types of clouds, which aims to be simple to implement, massively scalable,
and feature rich. Developers and cloud computing technologists from around
the world create the OpenStack project.
It is a cloud operating system that controls large parts of compute, storage,
and networking resources throughout a datacenter, all managed through a
dashboard that gives administrators control while empowering their users to
provision resources through a web interface.
OpenStack provides an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution through a set
of interrelated services. Each service offers an application programming
interface (API) that facilitates this integration. Depending on your needs, you
can install some or all services.

⢠Horizon (Dashboard) âWeb browser user interface for creating and managing instances.
⢠Keystone (Identity Services) - Centralized identity service that provides authentication and
authorization for other services and users.
⢠Neutron (Networking) â Provides connectivity between the interfaces of other OpenStack services.
Users can create their own network, control traffic and connect servers to other networks.
⢠Cinder (Block Storage) - Service that manages storage volumes for virtual machines.This is persistent
block storage for instances running on nova.
