Ceres is a coalition of investors, environmental groups, and companies working to address climate change and promote energy policy reform. It coordinates initiatives like the Investor Network on Climate Risk and the Global Reporting Initiative. Ceres brings together large companies and investors to call for climate and energy policies and mobilizes consumer brands through groups like Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy. The Copenhagen climate conference achieved agreements on emissions targets, financing for developing countries, and technology sharing, but further negotiations are still needed to finalize a binding global climate agreement.
The document discusses global climate change and initiatives by the U.S. government and other organizations to address it. It notes that in 2001 the U.S. President committed to developing a science-based climate change policy and funding research on technologies to meet the climate challenge. The President also created the Climate Change Research Initiative to study uncertainties and identify investments that could make a difference. Additional sections discuss definitions of climate change, its causes, the role of states and citizens in meeting reduction goals, and calls to action to address it through both domestic and international policies.
Short-term thinking has led governments and businesses to ignore the long-term risks of climate change, just as it did with the 2008 financial crisis. Climate change will have irreversible consequences if action is not taken now to transition away from fossil fuels and curb emissions. Both the public and private sectors need to take a long-term approach to risk management by implementing carbon pricing, investing in renewable energy and new technologies, and working together globally to enact sustainable climate policies.
This document discusses key asks that could be made at COP28 to accelerate climate action by the private sector. It argues that governments should commit to phasing out fossil fuels, as they are the largest cause of climate change. Business and industry support phasing out fossil fuels to provide market certainty and address climate risks. COP28 could galvanize climate efforts by agreeing to ambitious renewable energy and efficiency targets and ending fossil fuel subsidies to unlock private sector investments in the low-carbon transition.

1. The document discusses plans for an upcoming conference organized by PhilDHRRA that aims to raise awareness of climate change issues among civil society organizations in Mindanao.
2. It describes expanding the conference participation and obtaining approvals from various organizations. Interactive elements like a website and videos are planned to demystify the science around climate change.
3. The three day conference aims to educate participants about climate change, discuss frameworks for addressing it through development projects, and organize ongoing efforts through a Mindanao climate change agenda and institutional body.
CEB 2014 - How the UN system supports ambitious Action on Climate Change enDr Lendy Spires
The document discusses how the United Nations system supports ambitious climate action through a wide range of projects and programs across sectors and countries. It provides examples of UN efforts to reduce emissions and build resilience in key areas like energy, transport, forests, cities and more. The UN agencies work together and with partners to leverage financial mechanisms under the UNFCCC and support national climate strategies through expertise and on-the-ground presence around the world.
Letter by Parliamentarians US Congress and EU on COP28 PresidencyEnergy for One World
The letter urges UNFCCC leadership and heads of state to take action to limit the influence of fossil fuel companies at UNFCCC meetings and climate negotiations. Specifically, it calls for (1) diplomatic efforts to change the President-designate of COP28 who has ties to fossil fuel interests, and (2) rules to restrict participation of major polluting industries like fossil fuel companies whose goals conflict with the Paris Agreement aims. It notes the large presence of fossil fuel lobbyists has undermined climate action and that bold emissions cuts are needed urgently to address the climate crisis.
This document discusses the importance of inclusivity and sustainability at events. It notes that green and sustainable events are becoming more popular as businesses recognize the importance of environmental and social responsibility. Event organizers are making commitments to reduce their environmental impact and reflect sustainability. The events industry plays a unique role in addressing climate change by providing venues for collaboration on solutions, but also must reduce its own contribution to climate change. The COP27 climate conference and industry-led Net Zero Carbon initiative aim to advance sustainability and cut emissions in the events sector.
UNFCCC - Position Paper - United States of AmericaNadira Saraswati
The document discusses the United States' position on reducing carbon emissions by 2020. It recognizes that climate change poses a grave threat and that nations must work together to limit global temperature rise. While the U.S. has increased investment in clean energy and reduced emissions in recent years, it believes future agreements must be tailored to different national circumstances. The U.S. proposes prioritizing clean energy research, setting emissions standards, and using economic incentives to accelerate the transition to renewable sources.

International collaboration on low-carbon energy innovation can take many forms, from broad goals to specific programs and projects. While competition is important, collaboration allows countries to pool resources and avoid duplication, accelerating innovation. There are already many bilateral and multilateral agreements underway, but more is still needed to achieve climate goals. Effective collaboration requires fully aligning incentives for all participants and finding gaps where additional coordination or enabling actions can have impact.
Remarks at the IDFC meeting Paris 31 March 2015Dr Lendy Spires
The UN Assistant Secretary-General outlined the UN Secretary-General's strategy for mobilizing climate finance ahead of the Paris climate negotiations in December 2015. The strategy focuses on delivering five essential elements: 1) Developed countries providing $100B annually by 2020, 2) The Green Climate Fund approving projects and disbursing funds, 3) Support for economic drivers of low-carbon growth, 4) Delivery of private sector finance commitments from the 2014 UN Climate Summit, and 5) A finance package for least developed and small island developing states. The Assistant Secretary-General urged representatives of development finance institutions to show leadership in moving the world to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy.
The document provides information on several upcoming climate and sustainability related events, opportunities, and news items. It begins with signs of spring and mentions the White House releasing guidance on incorporating Indigenous Knowledge. It then discusses a UN treaty to protect marine biodiversity, challenges facing farmers from climate change, and examples of companies transitioning to safer alternatives. The rest of the document outlines grant opportunities, conferences, webinars, and workshops on topics like building electrification and disposable foodware. It concludes with several concerning news reports about climate feedback loops, methane leaks, impacts of meat/dairy production, and risks of sea level rise.

The word “Gymnosperm” comes from the Greek words “gymnos”(naked) and “sperma”(seed), hence known as “Naked seeds.” Gymnosperms are the seed-producing plants, but unlike angiosperms, they produce seeds without fruits. These plants develop on the surface of scales or leaves, or at the end of stalks forming a cone-like structure.

2. News from COP27
This year’s COP ended with a few wins, and some disappointments. The 11th hour
agreement on the Loss and Damage Fund provides hope to nations already suffering
from climate devastation, however the funding mechanisms are not yet in place, and it
is not yet clear how the fund will work. A step forward, but a lot more work to do.
Other wins include progress on reducing methane emissions, with the US and Brazil
signing on to the Methane Pledge, an agreement to reduce methane emissions by
30% relative to 2020 levels by 2030. China, while not signing the pledge, did commit
to steps to reduce emissions.
And at the same time progress was not what experts are saying is required to avoid
exceeding the critical goal of no more than 1.5 degrees of warming. There was no new
commitment to phase out fossil fuels, one of the most crucial steps required.
Overall, this COP pointed to the difficulties involved in taking actions that would be
significantly disruptive to the status quo, despite the fact that in many ways climate
change is already disrupting that very status quo.
Here is a collection of reporting from the event:
Statement on COP27 from Ceres CEO and President, Mindy Lubber
“The good and bad news for the planet after the latest UN climate talks,” VOX
“World still ‘on brink of climate catastrophe’ after Cop27 deal. Experts say biggest
economies must pledge more cuts to carbon emissions but hail agreement to set
up loss and damage fund.” The Guardian
“A deal on loss and damage, but a blow to 1.5C – what will be Cop27’s legacy?” also
from The Guardian
“In a First, Rich Countries Agree to Pay for Climate Damages in Poor Nations: After 30
years of deadlock, a new U.N. climate agreement aims to pay developing countries for
loss and damage caused by global warming. But huge questions remain about how it
would work.” The New York Times
In-depth reporting and archival video of the event from We Don’t Have Time.
3. Support Project Mushroom
Project Mushroom is under development as, in the words of the creators, “An online
community platform for justice and action during the climate crisis. A safe place that
promotes mutual aid and transformative action.” They are conducting a kickstarter with
a $200,000 goal, and are also seeking support in kind from people with appropriate
skills. Hoping to see you there soon, especially if you are tired of bird drama.
This dramatic graph from Statista demonstrates the urgency of taking action.
4. California Takes on Extreme Heat With an Action
Plan and a Symposium
In response to the newly recorded record heat waves experienced throughout the
state, California has created an Extreme Heat Action Plan, with attention paid to both
rapid response to extreme heat events as well as building resilience to heat in
communities, natural environments and infrastructure across the state. To date the
Governor has authorized a total investment in heat resilience of $865 million.
