Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals. It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, particularly intelligent computer programs. The document discusses several key aspects of AI including its definitions, the complexity of the human brain, applications of AI in areas like computer vision and speech recognition, and both the advantages and limitations of current AI technologies.
Artificial intelligence aims to create machines that can think and act intelligently, and has its origins in 1950 with Alan Turing's work exploring whether machines can think (Turing test). AI has applications in healthcare for medical diagnosis, education for personalized learning, and finance for fraud detection. While AI provides benefits, concerns also exist around job losses, increased inequality, and ensuring technology remains helpful rather than harmful to humanity.
This document provides an overview of artificial intelligence, including its history, applications, advantages, and disadvantages. It discusses how AI has significant uses in healthcare for diagnosis and automated surgeries. Machine learning also helps better serve customers. Some advantages of AI are its 24/7 availability, medical applications, and ability to think faster and perform tasks with greater precision than humans. However, disadvantages include the high costs of implementing AI systems and the risk of unemployment. The document concludes that while robots have benefits, humans are more robust as they possess emotions and sensations that robots lack.
Artificial Intelligence Vs Human IntelligenceManikant Rai
While AI researchers are trying to replicate our mental functions, many people are scared that AI will replace them. Hundreds of jobs such as drivers, radiologists and cashiers are facing substitution with machines in the next 5 years. Who’s next? To get a better idea what is coming we need a better understanding in which domains AI is stronger than humans and vice-versa.

Artificial Intelligence refers to the simulation of human intelligence in the machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
AI is based on the principle that human intelligence can be defined in a way that a machine can easily mimic it and execute tasks from the simplest to those that are even more complex.
When most people hear the term artificial intelligence, the first thing they usually think of is robots. That's because big-budget films and novels weave stories about human-like machines that wreak havoc on Earth. But nothing could be further from the truth. Artificial intelligence is based on the principle that human intelligence can be defined in a way that a machine can easily mimic it and execute tasks, from the most simple to those that are even more complex. The goals of artificial intelligence include mimicking human cognitive activity. Researchers and developers in the field are making surprisingly rapid strides in mimicking activities such as learning, reasoning, and perception, to the extent that these can be concretely defined. Some believe that innovators may soon be able to develop systems that exceed the capacity of humans to learn or reason out any subject. But others remain skeptical because all cognitive activity is laced with value judgments that are subject to human experience.
As technology advances, previous benchmarks that defined artificial intelligence become outdated. For example, machines that calculate basic functions or recognize text through optical character recognition are no longer considered to embody artificial intelligence, since this function is now taken for granted as an inherent computer function.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using the rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions), and self-correction. AI is a branch of computer science that deals with creating machines or software that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. AI technology can be divided into two categories: rule-based and self-learning. Rule-based AI follows a set of predefined rules, while self-learning AI uses techniques such as machine learning and deep learning to improve its performance over time. Applications of AI technology include self-driving cars, virtual assistants, and image recognition.

Interaction Latency: Square's User-Centric Mobile Performance MetricScyllaDB
Mobile performance metrics often take inspiration from the backend world and measure resource usage (CPU usage, memory usage, etc) and workload durations (how long a piece of code takes to run).
However, mobile apps are used by humans and the app performance directly impacts their experience, so we should primarily track user-centric mobile performance metrics. Following the lead of tech giants, the mobile industry at large is now adopting the tracking of app launch time and smoothness (jank during motion).
At Square, our customers spend most of their time in the app long after it's launched, and they don't scroll much, so app launch time and smoothness aren't critical metrics. What should we track instead?
This talk will introduce you to Interaction Latency, a user-centric mobile performance metric inspired from the Web Vital metric Interaction to Next Paint"" (web.dev/inp). We'll go over why apps need to track this, how to properly implement its tracking (it's tricky!), how to aggregate this metric and what thresholds you should target.

Video traffic on the Internet is constantly growing; networked multimedia applications consume a predominant share of the available Internet bandwidth. A major technical breakthrough and enabler in multimedia systems research and of industrial networked multimedia services certainly was the HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) technique. This resulted in the standardization of MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) which, together with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), is widely used for multimedia delivery in today’s networks. Existing challenges in multimedia systems research deal with the trade-off between (i) the ever-increasing content complexity, (ii) various requirements with respect to time (most importantly, latency), and (iii) quality of experience (QoE). Optimizing towards one aspect usually negatively impacts at least one of the other two aspects if not both. This situation sets the stage for our research work in the ATHENA Christian Doppler (CD) Laboratory (Adaptive Streaming over HTTP and Emerging Networked Multimedia Services; https://athena.itec.aau.at/), jointly funded by public sources and industry. In this talk, we will present selected novel approaches and research results of the first year of the ATHENA CD Lab’s operation. We will highlight HAS-related research on (i) multimedia content provisioning (machine learning for video encoding); (ii) multimedia content delivery (support of edge processing and virtualized network functions for video networking); (iii) multimedia content consumption and end-to-end aspects (player-triggered segment retransmissions to improve video playout quality); and (iv) novel QoE investigations (adaptive point cloud streaming). We will also put the work into the context of international multimedia systems research.
