Peer pressure can be either positive or negative, and come from internal or external sources. The document discusses four types of peer pressure: 1) internal positive pressure which is self-motivation to do something beneficial, 2) internal negative pressure which is feeling internal pressure to do something harmful to fit in, 3) external positive pressure such as friends encouraging good behaviors, and 4) external negative pressure involving outside influence to make harmful choices. Examples are provided to illustrate the different types.
Peer pressure can influence people, especially teenagers, to do things they normally wouldn't. There are three types of peer pressure: positive, which encourages good behaviors; neutral, which encourages going along with crowds in harmless ways; and negative, which encourages dangerous or hurtful behaviors. While peer pressure can help with friendship, advice, and new experiences, it's important for teenagers to learn to say no to pressures that make them uncomfortable or ask them to do wrong things. Facing peer pressure with friends who share values and rehearsing what to say can help manage these influences.

Meet the Learning Coaches
7. Helping You Connect the Pieces for Academic Success
A peer coach is a current undergraduate or
graduate student trained to guide and encourage
other students in improving their academic
performance and development as a life-long
learner, focusing on general study skills, specific
content-areas, navigating college resources, and
developing within their Areas of Study.
They work in both face-to-face and virtual
environments.
Peer coaches are trained under College Reading
& Learning Association (CRLA) international
standards for peer tutors and are either
volunteers, work-study, or practicum students.

11. TIME IS A VALUABLE
COMMODITY
We all have the same amount of time ~
◦ 60 seconds in a minute,
◦ 60 minutes in an hour,
◦ 24 hours in a day,
◦ 168 hours in a week,
◦ 720 hours in a month,
◦ And 8,760 in a year.
Time cannot be saved and it does not gain interest.
There are no rollover minutes!
How are you spending your time???
12. PRIORITIZATION
Prioritization is essential to effective time management… Most time management
experts will argue strongly that one must learn to differentiate between the
important and the optional and discover how to judge the relative
importance of each task to help in their scheduling.
First, you must set aside an appropriate amount of time to attend
life issues
Second, you must learn how to differentiate the essential from the
important.
Third, you must be able to push the urgent items towards the top.

15. Four Simple Reasons for Procrastination
Difficult - the task seems hard to do; we naturally tend to avoid difficult things in favor
of those which seem easy to us.
Time-consuming - the task will take large blocks of time, and large blocks of time are
unavailable until the weekend.
Lack of knowledge or skills - no one wants to make mistakes, so wait until you learn
how before you start.
Fears - everyone will know how you screwed up.
So how do I stop procrastinating….
The simple cure? Do everything opposite. Tell yourself: this isn't so hard, it won't take
long, and I am sure that I know how to do it, or that I can learn while I'm doing it.

16. REALITY CHECK
Approximately 10-16 hours per week is
the optimum time for successful
completion of a 4-credit study. In addition,
it is important for you to have as regular a
schedule as you can manage to meet the
deadlines for assignments.

23. How to use your time
management tools
• If using paper find a planner that is a good
design for you be it hour day week or month
you have to see it or it wont work.
• If you choose to use electronic most phone’s
and PDA’s have a calendar in the tools. For
these you can also set an alarm to give you a
reminder of your time. Each electronic device
is different and forever changing so when in
doubt check the manual.
