The injury bug has bitten again

Inter’s 3-0 win over Napoli has come at a cost. Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries exited the Stadio Diego Armando pitch with injuries, and it’s now been confirmed by a club statement that the Dutch duo will be out for a bit longer.

“Stefan De Vrij and Denzel Dumfries underwent medical visits and tests this morning at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano, following injuries sustained in Sunday evening’s game against Napoli. They revealed that the Dutch defender has strained the adductor muscles in the left thigh, and a strain in the left thigh flexor muscles for the Dutch winger. The two Nerazzurri players will be re-evaluated next week.” - Inter.it

If a report from Sky Sport Italia is to be believed, we won’t see either of them in action again for 20 days, ruling them out of Udinese (H), Real Sociedad (H), Lazio (A), Bologna (H Coppa Italia), Lecce (H), and possibly Genoa (H) on the 29th. While the club would normally have the depth to cope with such absences, the injury list already has a few names on it with Benjamin Pavard out for another 2 weeks and Alessandro Bastoni working back to fitness. That means Juan Cuadrado will be called into action as a starter, assuming he can stay fit himself (not a very probable outcome). Yann Bisseck and Carlos Augusto are two candidates to fill in on the backline as well, and for the former especially the coming weeks could be a bit of a sink or swim period. Inter brought him in for a reason, though, and with a somewhat easier schedule on the way, it could be the perfect opportunity for Bisseck to find his footing in Serie A.

Does Inter have the depth to cope without de Vrij and Dumfries? Is it time for Bisseck to start? Let us know in the comments below.
