Real Madrid defender David Alaba has undergone a new surgery on his left knee, the site of a December ACL tear, according to reports from MARCA and Relevo. This follow-up procedure, a minor cleanup, is not expected to significantly delay his return to the pitch, but it confirms Alaba’s absence will extend into the summer months.

Concerns arose after Alaba reported discomfort. Subsequent tests and consultations with specialists in both Austria and Madrid led to the decision for additional surgery. Sources close to MARCA indicate the procedure was even less invasive than the recent second surgery undergone by teammate Thibaut Courtois.

Alaba’s timeline for a full return has shifted. Initially aiming to be available for the European Championship this summer, his recovery will now push his return to September or October. This extended absence coincides with the potential departure of veteran center-back Nacho, placing pressure on Real Madrid to solidify their central defense during the upcoming transfer window. While Eder Militão and Antonio Rüdiger are expected to form the starting partnership next season, Alaba’s experience will be crucial as a first option off the bench.
