Matchday Edition of the Daily Merengue

Real Madrid CF v Girona FC - LaLiga EA Sports

The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou

It’s MATCHDAY!

Alaba and Tchouaméni are the only injury concerns. The latter trying to make it back in time for the Champions League final.

Predicted XI

The 4-4-2 is our most balanced formation this season. Bellingham helping to defend the left side and also interchanging with Vinicius has worked really well this season. I wonder if we will see Arda play some minutes with Jude, Vini and Rodrygo. It would be interesting to see if he’s compatible with them.

Rudiger should probably get a break. Carlo seems insistent on playing Courtois for the rest of the season. Seems unnecessary given Lunin has shown he can do the job. The rest of the regular XI just need some minutes to keep match rhythm and fitness.

To Keep or Not to Keep

With the club eyeing Lenny Yoro to replace Nacho and Alaba likely to return at the start of the season, it seems unlikely Rafa Marin will stay with the first team. Much like Miguel Gutierrez, the club will be looking to cash in instead.

Leyenda

Modric has done really well this season and his numbers have shown this. Carlo has always praised his contributions on and off the pitch. I think Modric surprised everyone even Carlo who sought to manage Luka's minutes.

However, it is unlikely he will reclaim his status as a starter in big matches next season. If he wants to retire at the club he needs to pick a date. He's been getting standing ovations throughout Spain as far back as 2020 when fans thought he was about to retire. The club might have to decide for him this time. We would all love to seen him retire at the Bernabeu.

Endrick's Aggression

Playing with older kids forces you to be tough and that's no different for Endrick. He will need to learn to channel that aggression differently when he arrives in Spain.
