Podcast: Dallas Mavericks whoop Clippers in Game 5, 123-93

The Dallas Mavericks took it to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night, winning a crucial game 5 in a landslide, 123-93. Following the game, Josh Bowe and I recapped the action and tried to explain how Dallas ran away with things.

The Mavericks opened up the game with relatively cold shooting, going a putrid 1 of 10 from the three point line in the first quarter. However, they held off the Clippers, leading by one point because they got to the rim repeatedly. Kyrie Irving was an energy source for Dallas early and kept the pressure on the Clippers in a variety of ways all game long.

After a strong close to the second quarter, the Maverick defense pummeled the Clippers in the third quarter, leading by as many as 25 as they turned defense into offense seemingly at will. Clippers head coach Ty Lue cleared the benches around five minutes left in the fourth, so Dallas fans got to see a Jaden Hardy party, as he exploded with 14 points to keep the 30-point cushion the Mavericks built up.

We spent the second half of the show walking through the performances of Maxi Kleber, Dereck Lively, and Derrick Jones Jr. This was a pretty awesome game, but Dallas so thoroughly beat the Clippers, our energy wasn’t super high.
