Tuesday afternoon, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps joined Pod Maverick for an episode of Kirk Your Enthusiasm to talk about a whole host of basketball-related things.
We opened the show with a question to Bontemps centering around what he loves about his job. Being an NBA beat reporter is a lot of grinding work (at least it sounds that way to me) and he made a point of emphasizing how much he still loves the work and being able to go to and cover games.

Following a short interlude for ads and my normal plea to subscribe to the channel and podcast, we get into the heart of the discussion: the MVP race. He explains how he came up with what’s become a staple of NBA content every year in the MVP straw poll. Then we chat a bit about the race itself and how different voters come to different conclusions. It’s a fun discussion even if Maverick fans are likely annoyed at Nikola Jokic likely winning the Most Valuable Player award for the third time.
Lastly, we end with some talk about the Mavericks and the Clippers in this upcoming round-one playoff series. By game three, Luka will have played half his playoff games in his career against the Los Angeles Clippers, which is ridiculous. This was a fun show, thanks for listening or watching!
