Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
More of the same or the best yet to come?
IMF's Ethan Hunt had had enough of villains from Russia England Spain and pretty much anything human as he takes on the indomitable AI in the latest franchise edition The Dead Reckoning Part 1. From an underwater location to Yemen to Rome to Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi to Austria he and his team are in pursuit of a key that unlocks something mysterious when locked with another exact looking key. The action races throughout the movie and some of the chases are too good and yet times feel too long. The stunts are spectacular as you would expect the locales breathtaking and at 2hrs 45 minutes it's an exhilarating ride. But the jury is sill out on the story as it remains to be unveiled in Part 2 and what we have seen in Part 1 feels like we have seen somewhere before. Nothing novel. Part 1 seems only a setup to Part 2 and we need to wait for the latter to rank this edition of Mission Impossible.
Mo fang fan (2023)
Gripping Crime Series on Netflix. It's like reading a book.
No Spoilers
GRIPPING CRIME SERIES COPYCAT KILLER NETFLIX
PLOT: A serial killer takes advantage on the media interest over his murders, manipulating their victims, police and the media, turning the murders into a spectacle.
I don't always say "drop everything else and watch this" but this is one of those rare gems.
Based on a book by a Japanese author, this Netflix series from Taiwan is 10 episodes long and with eah episode the tension mounts.
Just when you thought you had figured it all out, it completely throws you off and you will have t55o reassess your theories on who or what.
The best part of this series is you will feel like you are reading a book and not watching a commercial adaptation made in a hurry.
The nuanced storytelling and the excellent background music really stand out as you binge through the episodes.
This is one of the best crime series out there at the moment and it's gripping from start to finish. No melodrama no modern day gimmicks in this 90's story.
La chica de nieve (2023)
Cliched with so many loopholes
Started off like a Nordic noir but soon disintegrated into a Spanish soap.
No motive for the woman who kidnapped Amaya. She could have adopted any kid easily. And she could so easily get away with the murder of the mortgage agent. Seriously?
And when the first tape was out six years after the police and the parents did nothing???
How did she get the address of the lady by the way? She didn't seem to have anything registered in her name. The journalist got her address in no time without any help from anyone.
And when the lady crashes the car into the railing into the hills, nothing happens to the kid??
There is much better stuff out there.
1899 (2022)
Shipload of BS!
Someone made Dark and it became a sleeper hit. So Netflix approached them and said, "Hey we are going to give you our story. We have folks who watched movies like 2012 movie X movie Y TV series Z and we need to tick a lot of boxes. You will be made the executive producers of this show. We will give you buttload of money. All we need from you is the Creators of Dark tag and a few interviews. We will even get your main hero from the Dark series here."
So that's how 1899 was made. A buttload of money for those guys and a ship load of BS for us who are expecting Dark or at least 10 percent of it..
Les Papillons Noirs (2022)
Excellent thriller with lots of twists-Go for it!
Drop everything and watch Bleck Butterflies, the new French series on Netflix.
It goes from good to brilliant to one of the most satisfying thrillers.
If you liked La Mante or The Witnesses or The Promise and the likes, this is for you.
Or Mindhunter Dahmer or any of these genre this is one of the best you will ever watch.
The twists keep coming and you will be glued to the screen. It looks a bit like The Serpent another thriller on Netflix but this is not a true story and different to that. The acting is top notch the background music is brilliant and the 70s set pieces and locations are a treat to watch aesthetically,
