Emilia Clarke has had a glorious career in both film and TV, starring in some of the biggest franchises and acclaimed projects. The actress has famously played Sarah Connor in 2015’s Terminator Genisys and also starred in successful rom-coms Me Before You, and Last Christmas. However, her most recognizable performance is her leading role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

Exclusive: In a highly competitive situation involving six parties, Paramount Pictures has snapped up rights to Over Asking, a sexual revenge thriller spec from Caroline Dries.
Both streamers and traditional studios were in the mix, as others who made offers included Amazon, Apple, Skydance, New Line and Sony, according to multiple sources, who said that the deal came in at north of seven figures.
Said to be a throwback in the vein of Paramount’s classic erotic thrillers, the film watches as a chance encounter between a seemingly perfect couple and a powerful female attorney leads the couple down a scary path that throws everything into jeopardy. Karen Rosenfelt (The Twilight Saga) will serve as its producer.

Although some may find the new mystery Wicked Little Letters a bit lax in actual mystery, an incredibly strong cast, led by Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley manages to elevate the film to a wickedly clever piece that makes up for its shortcomings with unabashed enthusiasm and excitement.
Based on an allegedly true story, Wicked Little Letters tells the tale of two women: Edith Swan (Colman) and Rose Gooding (Buckley) who, after Rose is accused of sending Edith and several of the town’s residents several profane letters, set about investigating the crime themselves to prove that Rose is innocent.
Director Thea Sharrock – whose previous feature work includes The One and Only Ivan (2020) and Me Before You (2016) – works from a script that was penned by Jonny Sweet, an actor who has also written scripts for several episodes of the television programs Gap Year (2017), Together (2015), and Chickens (2011). There’s a reason “Wicked Little Letters” lured the A-list cast that British comedian and TV scribe Jonny Sweet (“Chickens”) and theater/film director Thea Sharrock (“The Hollow Crown”) dreamed about, including Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.
Sweet pitched the idea to StudioCanal’s Nicola Shindler, who took him on as a film writer even though he’d only done TV. His first movie script was so funny that when Shindler sent it to Colman, the Oscar-winner (“The Favourite”) signed on right away to play Edith, a proper village spinster living at home who goes to the police after receiving a series of scatologically creative hate letters in the post. Who could resist language like “you foxy-ass piss-country whore?”
That got the ball rolling: Soon, Timothy Spall joined the cast as Edith’s misogynistic father, steeped in old-school patriarchal ways, along with Jessie Buckley as Rose, Edith’s brash, Irish,...

Coming off a well-deserved first-ever Oscar nomination, Bill Nighy has a new worthwhile movie to add to his highly impressive filmography. The Beautiful Game is, on its surface, another well-worn story of a ragtag team of misfits coming together for validation not just in their football (i.e. soccer) skills but, more importantly, in their lives. And even though we have seen countless underdog stories like this one set on a playing field, we actually haven’t seen one quite like this in terms of the welcome spotlight it puts on the homeless population among us. The timing is particularly pertinent as many major cities seem to a war going on with the homeless, a complete lack of empathy toward what gets a person to this point in life and a solution for lifting them out of it.
The Beautiful Game is not focused on the politics of their lot in life,...

British actress Emilia Clarke, best known for her role of Daenerys Targaryen in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) gong in the New Year’s Honors List,
Clarke will attend a British royal palace to receive the award, alongside her mother Jenny, after the pair set up a charity together supporting people with brain injuries.
The actress, now 37, suffered two brain haemorrhages, in 2011 and 2013 when she was in her twenties. Following her surgery, she was shocked by the lack of after-care support available, and she and her mother were inspired to create the SameYou charity.
Now, they are believed to be the first mother-daughter pairing to receive the same award in the same honors list.
Clarke told BBC News: “I can say for both of us that the MBE is for the cause and the charity,...

Because the fall festivals had fewer actors and writers on hand due to the strikes, more independent movies came into the season looking for buyers. Below is the running list of movies that have found buyers.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American rights to “Wicked Little Letters,” a stranger-than-fiction mystery comedy starring Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley. The movie, directed by “Me Before You” filmmaker Thea Sharrock, had its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
“Wicked Little Letters” will debut in theaters sometime in 2024.
Set in a 1920s English seaside town amid a “dark and absurd scandal,” the film follows the true story of two neighbors: the deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Colman) and the rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, fouth-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues — but as the town’s women start to investigate, they suspect that Rose may not be the culprit after all.

"Why would I send a letter when I can just say it?" Studiocanal UK has revealed a hilarious new red band trailer for Wicked Little Letters, a "scandalously sweary" film from filmmaker Thea Sharrock (Me Before You and The One & Only Ivan). This recently premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, with a February 2024 release date for the UK, though still no US date confirmed yet. Which is a shame - someone release this soon! Small town. Big mystery. Bad language. When people in Littlehampton - including conservative local Edith - begin to receive letters full of hilariously harsh profanities, rowdy Irish migrant Rose is charged with the crime. Suspecting something is amiss, the town's women investigate. Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley star as Edith and Rose, respectively, with Timothy Spall, Gemma Jones, Lolly Adefope, and Anjana Vasan. I've heard plenty of great things about this foul-mouth comedy, full of funny...

Numerous actors in the new Amazon Prime miniseries Daisy Jones & The Six have made headlines, but Sam Claflin is one of the most intriguing. Unfortunately, not all our favorite fictional characters get a happily ever after, especially the ones in "The Hunger Games." On the list of the franchise's characters that deserved better than their untimely, tragic deaths, Finnick Odair is up there. Portrayed by Sam Claflin, the character was famous for having won the Hunger Games when he was just 14. Popular in the Capitol and all around Panem, Finnick was a skilled fighter who could shield himself from just about anything with his trident.
Like Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Finnick had a public personality devised for him that didn't match who he truly was, and he saved Katniss, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), and their friends countless times. And, of course, the braveheart met his end in the dystopian sci-fi film adaptation's conclusion, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2." It's a heartbreaking loss that, even eight years later, fans haven't grown accustomed to,...

Daisy Jones & The Six might be about the meteoric rise and fall of a fictional ‘70s rock band, but its musical influences are anything but imaginary. Its author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, was inspired by the lore and chemistry surrounding Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Now, in the Amazon Prime limited series of the same name, Daisy Jones weaves the tale of Jones (Riley Keough) and frontman Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin), and how their relationship shapes the dynamics within their band.
Though Daisy Jones epitomizes 1970s culture and music in an all-encompassing, authentic way, some of its marquee actors weren’t fluent in rock ‘n’ roll when they first signed on to their roles. During almost two years of preparation for the show, however, they borrowed inspiration from some of the greatest names in music. In doing so, they pulled off a TV hit and music album that...

It’s been 10 years since a shirtless Sam Claflin first stole hearts as the charismatic District 4 victor Finnick Odair in 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
In a conversation with Variety about his upcoming Prime Video series, “Daisy Jones & the Six,” Claflin reflected on the films at length. “It still feels like yesterday…the filming experience of that was just an absolute dream,” he said, beaming as he recalled filming in Hawaii alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
It wasn’t all easy, though. The actor faced backlash at the time of his casting: “‘You were so wrong for this.’ ‘They should have cast this person or this person, not you,’” Claflin remembers hearing when he was selected for the beloved role. His attitude? “Okay, I’m gonna prove you wrong!”
He did just that, cementing Finnick as a fan-favorite, not just in Suzanne Collins’ books, but on the screen.

Sam Claflin says his audition for “Daisy Jones & The Six” couldn’t have gone worse.
Speaking with Variety about the upcoming series, the actor, who plays lead singer Billy Dunne, says he landed the role despite his “terrible” song performance.
Based on the book of the same name, it follows the rise and fall of a Fleetwood Mac-like band the Six.
As Claflin was preparing for the audition, he learned he would have to a sing a ’70s rock song. The U.K. native admitted he wasn’t a big music fan and chose something from the Apple Music app.
“I went into a recording studio for the first time in my life, confronted with a microphone and people watching me in a fishbowl,” Claflin recalled. “I sang Elton John’s ‘Your Song.’ Terribly.”
