This movie is inspired by a true story, in which a French citizen in Siberia, Yoann Barbereau, director of the local branch of the Alliance française, was accused of pedophilia, based on very flimsy evidence. However, the writer/director did not acquire the rights of Barbereau's book and decided to write an action thriller instead of the very Kafkaesque original story. This was heavily criticized, both by Barbereau and by several critics during its release, as they felt the characters are very cliche and some story beats quite unbelievable.
For obvious reasons given the subject of the movie, the crew couldn't shoot in Russia, so they chose Lithuania, where the buildings are fairly similar to the ones in Russia. However, due to the pandemic restrictions, everyone had to wear masks all the time and the crew couldn't leave their hotel after work, which led to a very harsh shoot.
