Update: Filming began today on Disney's live-action Cinderella at London's Pinewood Studios (best known for being the home of all the James Bond movies). Director Kenneth Branaugh (Thor) said in a statement, "It is impossible to think of Cinderella without thinking of Disney and the timeless images we've all grown up watching. And those classic moments are irresistible to a filmmaker. With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace. Her Prince is being played by Richard Madden, a young actor with incredible power and charisma. He is funny, smart and sexy and a great match for Cinderella."
Disney gives this description of the movie, which sticks pretty close to the 1697 fairy tale and the 1950 Disney animated movie (but don't be surprised if the ending is more female empowered rather than Ella being "rescued" by the prince who whisks...

Disney star-turned-pop-singer-turned-film-actress Selena Gomez may have gained fame from her small screen roles and relationship with Justin Bieber. However, the 21-year-old is now maturing and doing her own thing -- and by maturing we do not mean desperately twerking for attention (cough Miley Cyrus).
Gomez made quite the mark on the big screen this year, appearing in her first grown-up role in Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers" alongside former Disney star Vanessa Hudgens. Gomez also made a cameo in Eli Roth's "Aftershock" this summer and stars alongside Ethan Hawke in the thriller "Getaway," opening this week.
While you saw her snuggling with Bieber on every tabloid cover and flicking her wand in Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place," there's probably a few things you still don't know about the star. From her controversy with PETA to her musical influences, check out these Selena Gomez facts so you're up to speed on the former Disney star.

Update: The mean stepsisters of Cinderella are usually depicted as ugly, but the makeup people will just have to get to work this time. Sophie McShera ("Downton Abbey") and Holliday Grainger (Anna Karenina, pictured left) will play Drizella and Noemie. It's a reunion for Grainger and Helena Bonham Carter, they worked together in last year's Great Expectations. It's also going to be a lot of fun for McShera and Lily James, who plays Cinderella. In their show "Downton Abbey," James plays nobility and McShera plays a kitchen maid - it will be fun for them to switch roles!

Helena Bonham Carter, who is known for playing wacky and often evil characters, will play Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. Richard Madden: Game of Thrones’ King of the North to play Prince Charming in Cinderella Richard Madden, Game of Thrones‘ King of the North Robb Stark, has been cast as Prince Charming in Disney’s live-action retelling of the Cinderella fairy-tale. A few days ago, Lily James (Wrath of the Titans, Downton Abbey) was announced as the actress to try on Cinderella’s tiny glass slippers. The Cinderella model has been twisted to fit anything from sports films to basic dramas, and there’s never any guarantee whether the results will end up being good or even watchable. To that end, Warner Brothers has been chugging along with their A Cinderella Story series, which started with an original starring Hilary Duff and earned itself a theatrical release. Since then, Damon Santostefano has taken over at the helm and now the series only receives a direct-to-dvd debut as it continues to crank out stories taking advantage of each new generation of Disney songstress. Another Cinderella Story had Selena Gomez and now, with the most recent entry A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, they’ve got Lucy Hale, one talented singer amongst a few in the film, and a final product that entertains the children and is actually watchable by parents. That’s a rare claim for straight-to-video kids’ movies nowadays.

With three revisionist Snow White movies in the works -- all of which reimagine a tougher princess who just doesn't wait on her prince to come -- her fellow fairytale princess Cinderella is the next subject of reimagination. Disney is working on a version with Mark Romanek (who just directed the Fox pilot Locke & Key starring Jesse McCartney). Now, Universal has hired Chronicles of Narnia scribe Ann Peacock to explore what she could do with a new take on the abused stepdaughter who finds her salvation in a prince. Of course, Cinderella has been revamped over and over again in the last decade with some of the movies/TV movies/DVDs including Ella Enchanted, Ever After, A Cinderella Story, Another Cinderella Story, and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
In fact, A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song starring "Pretty Little Liars" Lucy Hale and Freddie Stroma ("Cormac McLaggen in...

A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, starring Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’s Freddie Stroma (he played Cormac McLaggen, who fancies Hermione), arrives on DVD today, and I couldn’t be happier. If I stumble upon the 2004 original, starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, or the first sequel, 2008′s Another Cinderella Story, starring Selena Gomez and Drew Seeley, on ABC Family, I have to stop and watch. They represent the happy ending I never got in high school, and sometimes (like after seeing One Day in theaters, which is when I...

Ikav Movie PosterWhenever this reviewer sees horror and musicals combined there is only one word, or maybe three - wtf?! I Kissed a Vampire dares to be a little different by blending these two genres and in doing so something magical happens. Teenagers emerge from coffins, girls awkwardly sing in their bedrooms and no neck is safe, as quiet Dylan turns in to an opera singing bloodsucker. Watch the comedy unfold in this first trailer for I Kissed a Vampire, inside.
A partial synopsis for I Kissed a Vampire here:
"Haunted by bizarre dreams about goth rocker Trey Sylvania (Drew Seeley, High School Musical, Another Cinderella Story), with a growing lust for blood, Dylan (Lucas Grabeel, High School Musical, Milk) is not your average teenager—he’s transforming into a vampire! It all started when he was bitten by a voracious fanged exchange student, and it’s a process he...

Selena Gomez can have any balloon animal she wants today, as she is celebrating her birthday. The actress and singer best known for her work on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and the upcoming "Ramona and Beezus," turns 18 years old today. She has spent most of those 18 years working in the spotlight, as the Texas-born Gomez caught her first break when she was just seven years old. That was when she scored the role of Gianna on "Barney and Friends" for the show's seventh season. From there, she picked up more minor roles until she was discovered by the Disney Channel and placed in guest-starring roles on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana." The latter turned into a regular gig, and that eventually lead to "Wizards of Waverly Place" as well as more and more movie roles.

The Cinderella story has certainly gotten the live-action treatment before, from the Drew Barrymore/Dougray Scott-starrer Ever After to the tween takes with A Cinderella Story and Another Cinderella Story, but Deadline is now reporting that Disney has taken on a pitch by Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada, the upcoming Morning Glory) for a new, live-action Cinderella. It certainly seems that Disney is into whatever Brosh McKenna is selling, because they’ve paid in the seven-figure range for it.

TBS has tapped Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as the leads in its hourlong comedy pilot "Franklin & Bash," lifting the contingency off the project.
The cable network also has cast another hourlong pilot, "Glory Daze," with Tim Meadows and Kelly Blatz. They lead a largely young, ensemble cast that includes Julianna Guill, Callard Harris, Matt Bush, Hartley Sawyer and Drew Seeley.
"Bash," from Sony TV, writers Kevin Falls and Bill Chais and producer Jamie Tarses, revolves around Jared Franklin (Meyer) and Steven Bash (Gosselaar), two street lawyers and lifelong friends who, after taking down a white-shoe law firm in a high-profile case, are recruited by the firm's patriarch. Bash has an uncanny ability to connect with a jury and judge, and Franklin is bent on sticking it to the Man.

Disney star Selena Gomez has added yet another film role into her resume. Variety reported that the Alex Russo of "Wizards of Waverly Place" has been cast in one of the three lead roles in Tom Bezucha's young femme comedy "Monte Carlo".
Nicole Kidman was originally attached to star, but a rewrite from Bezucha and April Blair gives a younger spin to the story. The twist puts two of the characters in college and one just out of high school. Gomez will take on the youngest of the three.

Another actress possibly taking part in the movie is Leighton Meester. The "Gossip Girl" star reportedly is in talks to join the cast.

The Writers Guild of America honored The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air at their ceremony on Saturday night, firmly establishing the films as front-runners in their respective Oscar categories.
Mark Boal certainly deserves the accolades after embedding himself with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Baghdad in 2004 and turning his journalist findings into a dramatic original screenplay. In his speech Boal thanked director Kathryn Bigelow for supporting “an unpopular story about an unpopular war that has now lasted twice as long as WWII with no end in sight.”
Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner picked up the prize for their adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel, and Mark Monroe won for the moving documentary The Cove.
The WGA Awards are a somewhat reliable indicator of the Academy Awards. ”Original Screenplay” has matched 10 out of the last 15 years, and “Adapted” has lined up 11 of 15, including Milk and Slumdog Millionaire last year.

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.
AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.
ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.
While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.

With 13 tracks, including a remix of her popular song “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” (from the “Another Cinderella Story” soundtrack), the CD demonstrates Selena’s concerted effort to make a successful debut as a new recording artist.
With the “core” of the record shaped by Ted Bruner and contributions made by Isaac Hasson and the impressive John Fields, Gomez benefited greatly from the masterful work of the team behind much of Demi Lovato’s musical success.
