“I was sleeping when the nominations happened because I just didn’t expect to get one,” confesses Sky Lakota-Lynch about the morning of the 2024 Tony Awards nominations. When he heard that he had received recognition for his performance at Johnny Cade in the new musical “The Outsiders,” he thought folks might be confusing him with fellow nominee Steven Skybell of “Cabaret” because they both have “sky” in their names, but he says that after he read the list a few dozen times to confirm that he did indeed get nominated, “I couldn’t catch my breath.” His castmates Brody Grant and Joshua Boone are nominees as well, and he thanks the Tony nominators for giving their characters “their flowers after 60 years.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

A notable year for the New German Cinema filmmaker with two (or three if you include Chambre 999) films in Cannes with docu item (you need 3D glasses) Anslem (a Special Screenings selection) and a proper return into fiction with the shot-in-Japan and off-the-radar Perfect Days. Wim Wenders’ most notable Cannes legacy will always be with Palme d’Or winner Paris, Texas (1984) and Wings of Desire (1987) for which he won the Best Director Award.

Ohio (USA), Sep 8 (Ians) US gymnast Simone Biles hasn’t shut the door on competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but whether that’s as an athlete or a spectator is to be decided.
Seven-time Olympic medallist has been on a break from training and competition following last summer’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games where she won team silver and balance beam bronze. At those Games, her decision to withdraw from several medal finals to prioritise her mental health sparked a global conversation about mental health in the Olympics.
Since those Games, the 25-year-old has said little about her competitive plans but she did allude to her future in an interview on Wednesday.
“I think right now I still have to heal mentally and physically. So, I will be in Paris. I just don’t know at what role, if that is an athlete or an audience member. So, we’ll just have to see,...

This could not have been scripted better. Sarah Jessica Parker, an HFPA darling with nine nominations, seven of them — and four wins — for HBO’s Sex and the City — was the first presenter announcing the 2021 Golden Globe nominations this morning.
The first category she introduced was Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical; the first nominee she read was Emily In Paris, the new series by Sex and the City creator Darren Star. The show’s lead Lily Collins was later announced as a nominee for Best Performance by an Actress In a TV Series — Musical or Comedy.
These were the categories dominated by Sex and the City and its star Parker in the early 2000s. For an awards show known for being notoriously fickle, recognizing a hot new show and quickly moving onto the next newcomer the next year, Sex and the City had an incredible staying power. Oh, Golden Globes, aren't you tired of making me talk to you like this? Almost every year, the same story plays out: an award show drops its nominations, TV and movie fans rage against the generally racist and sexist nods, the actual award ceremony will hand out one or two historic wins to "appease" the crowd, and the year after that it happens again. Some would ask why we put ourselves through the cycle every year, but as Moira Rose said herself, awards season is our favorite season. But after a surprisingly stellar year for TV and film, we need to talk about how the Golden Globes decided to choose metaphorical violence with some truly ridiculous snubs on Feb. 3.

The year 2021 saw us getting comfortable. We somehow made it through the presidential inauguration, D*nald Tr*mp is no longer spewing his rhetoric on Twitter, and slow but steady vaccine rollouts have given us a sense of hope about the pandemic. So 2021 snickered to itself and said, "Y'know what? Let's throw 'em a curveball no one would ever be able to predict." And on the 34th day of the year, out came Golden Globes nominations for Emily in Paris - quite the curveball indeed.
Is Emily in Paris worthy of an accolade reserved for truly exceptional film and TV productions? To quote the French, non.
The Netflix show surprisingly managed to nab not one, but two nominations: one for best TV series in the musical or comedy category, and lead star Lily Collins secured a best actress nod in that same category for her portrayal of the clueless yet charming Emily Cooper.

Our forum posters were up before dawn to duke it out over the nominations for the Golden Globes. Reactions to the nominations ran the gamut. While they found a lot to be happy about (“The Flight Attendant), there were just as many exclusions that had them unleashing their fury (like those “Bridgerton” snubs).
Our message boards have been on fire as show biz veterans with clever user names sound off on the roster of contenders. Below is just a sampling of their savage comments on the 11 television categories at the Golden Globe Awards. Take a look, then jump in if you’re brave enough:

Ivo Stoyanov: Told you that “Ozark” will kill it, season 3 is undeniable.
Allan Veríssimo: I’m really surprised to see “Bridgerton” with zero nominations.

It's been a month since Bridgerton arrived on Netflix and took the world by storm.
Now, the freshman season's female lead, Phoebe Dynevor, is opening up about working with Regé-Jean Page on the hit series.
Bridgerton Season 1 followed the love story between Daphne Bridgerton (Dynevor) and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Page), and Dynevor thinks Page was "the perfect Simon."
In a new interview with Glamour, Dynevor was asked about her first impressions when she met Page.
"That he was the perfect Simon. He's very polite and gentlemanly and all the things that Simon is... well, Simon's a lot more than gentlemanly and polite. But Regé definitely had that composure of a Regency man. I saw it straight away.

A key scene in Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman” has audiences falling in love with Paris Hilton’s underrated 2006 single, “Stars are Blind.” The film’s Stars Carey Mulligan and Bo Burnham dance to the song affectionately while in a local pharmacy. The tango soundtracks the two characters’ budding relationship, before — spoiler alert — it all goes south.
Released on Warner Bros. Records as the lead track from Hilton’s debut album, “Paris,” “Stars Are Blind” was produced by Fernando Garibay, who also co-wrote the song with Sheppard Solomon and Ralph McCarthy. As it turns out, the tune was earmarked for another pop singer entirely: Gwen Stefani.
The uber talented Garibay, who is the mastermind behind many of the tracks on Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” album, which he executive-produced, and Sia’s “Hologram,” has not yet seen seen the movie due to work commitments in and out of the studio.

No studio or production company has been immune to the devastating financial effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, and that even includes an outfit like Netflix who always appeared to have a bottomless supply of cash. The streaming service have been nothing short of ruthless this year, wielding the axe like Jack Nicholson in The Shining to remove a huge number of original shows from the schedule.
The majority of the titles to bite the dust have been canned after just one season, which includes but is in no way limited to, I Am Not Okay With This, The Society, Away, Teenage Bounty Hunters, The Big Show Show, V Wars and October Faction. Altered Carbon and The Order, meanwhile, managed to get two runs under their respective belts, while the acclaimed Glow already had one episode of season 4 shot and in the can before the massively popular drama was also kicked to the curb.

Along with Collins, the comedy — which was originally set to debut at Paramount Network (and TV Land before that) before moving to Netflix in July — stars Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Camille Razat and Bruno Gouery. Recurring cast members include Kate Walsh,...

Netflix’s newest romantic comedy is fun, addictive and an excellent reminder of the power of pen on paper in a world dominated by social media. But more than any of that, it’s Christmas porn.
Set and filmed in New York City at Christmastime (production wrapped in December 2019), Dash & Lily is a bittersweet escape into a pre-pandemic holiday wonderland, one where differences are forgotten, love conquers all and you never know when you might find yourself at a Jonas Brothers concert.

Sciamma is re-teaming with her regular producer Bénédicte Couvreur at Lilies Films, and MK2 Films, which will handle international sales on the film. Headlined by Adele Haenel and Noémie Merlant, “Portrait of a Young Lady on Fire” was sold around the world by MK2 Films after competing at Cannes and winning the best screenplay award. On top of winning a flurry of prizes and a Golden Globe nomination, the French film performed well at the overseas box office, notably in the U.K.

Emily is not making the best decisions.
Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 8 took our heroine out of the city, while Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 9 made her the butt of many jokes.
We'll start with the adventures in the chateau because those were the best scenes of Emily in Paris Season 1.
It's hard to understand what goes through Emily's mind at the best of times, but embarking on a trip to Camille's family home with Gabriel in tow was not the best move.
Indeed, Emily thought Gabriel would not be tagging along, but the hot chef always seems to pop up when our favorite Chicago implant least expects it.
The humor during the trip was on point, and I cringed for Emily when it emerged that she slept with the wrong brother of Camille.
Still, Camille wanted her to get close to a brother, but she didn't define which brother,...

After watching episode four of Emily in Paris, do you just have that nagging notion you've seen rich hotelier Randy Zimmer before? Emily courts him (and his incredible suit) at an art exhibition for Savoir, the French marketing company she works at, and presents a perfect elevator pitch for creating a signature scent. In between the Champagne, Chanel bags, romance, and modern art, we were already feeling a bit woozy - but not exactly knowing where we had seen the actor that plays Randy? That was killing us. Eion Bailey is not just a total heartthrob, but has acted in roles we would have never guessed. And when we figured it out, well, we were shook.
So where have you seen Eion Bailey before?
Eion Bailey is an American actor who has been formally acting since 1997, starring in almost 50 different roles in TV shows and movies throughout his career. So,...

Things are getting messy.
Emily continued to pursue Gabriel on Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 6 and Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 7 and came to a stunning decision about the relationship.
While it's hard to call it a relationship when Gabriel is still very much in one with Camile, it's becoming clear that he's emotionally over his longtime girlfriend.
From the moment he laid eyes on Emily, he's wanted to get closer to her.
The cracks are starting to appear in his relationship with Camile, and from the outside, it might look like money is driving them apart.
Gabriel is a proud man who wants to achieve success based on his merits. Camile trying to get him to accept the money from her family could seriously derail their relationship.
If Gabriel accepted the money, he would feel indebted to her family, and that's not something he would be able to live with.

How do you say Sex and the City in French? Honestly, it's hard not to compare Emily in Paris to the iconic HBO series. It's from the same creator: Darren Star. It has a fashionable yet relatable lead: Lily Collins. And the clothes. Oh, the clothes. Not since Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) twirled on a dirty NYC sidewalk in that tulle skirt have we had such an instant reaction to a character's wardrobe. And that's all thanks to Patricia Field, the legendary costume designer behind both Carrie and Emily's looks. "The appeal for Emily in Paris for me was basically Darren Star," Field told E! News of signing on to do the Netflix rom-com, which dropped its first season on...

If Emily thought working in Paris would be drama-free, she had another thing coming.
Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 2 and Emily in Paris Season 1 Episode 3 found our titular lead embroiled in some gnarly situations.
But at least she and Doug are finally over. Beyond his good looks, he lacked personality and didn't fully support Emily working in Paris.
The fact that he had to purchase a passport proves that he doesn't venture much further than Chicago. Emily is a fiery young woman who speaks her mind, so it's somewhat surprising she stayed with him for so long.
Maybe I'm biased because Gabriel lives in Paris, but he and Emily seem like a much better match.
There was an instant attraction between them, and their chemistry has been undeniable. Even Mindy, someone who has known Emily for a few days, picked up on it.
The issue plaguing Emily and Gabriel, however,...

Making a TV show funny is no easy feat, but if Darren Star has taught us anything, it's that he can deliver humor in almost any scenario.
His latest series, Emily in Paris, has had a long road to the screen. It started its life as a Paramount Network original but was left on the back burner for some time.
It was recently announced that Netflix would be its home around the globe, and it's likely to be a standout on their lineup.
Emily in Paris is way off brand for the cabler, and it would have struggled to find much of an audience on a network filled with older-skewing shows.
On Emily in Paris, Lily Collins plays Emily Cooper, a young woman who is given a gift that she'll never forget: A high-stakes job in the wonderful city of Paris.

Paris has long been the staging ground for a particular sort of American fantasy, one that tends to bring the characteristics of Americans into sharp relief. In the final episodes of “Sex and the City,” to cite one example, Carrie Bradshaw attempts a warm embrace of all the City of Light has to offer, but finds that she may in fact be too warm, that the cool briskness of Paris is making her someone she does not recognize. It’s only by realizing what she can never be — Parisian — that Carrie rediscovers herself.
So it is with “Emily in Paris,” a show that uses the city to depict a young woman coming into her own, even and especially as she recognizes that aspect within herself that will never quite fit into her new surroundings. As created by Darren Star, this series is a delight that poses the question of what...
