Q: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? A: We all have for the last 25 years! That’s 25 years of supremely silly subaquatic surrealism that we, as a crew, and you, as our amazing audience, have been submerged in together. Twenty-five glorious years since Nickelodeon first introduced the world to Stephen Hillenburg’s quirky cast of characters that he discovered in a town deep on the ocean floor called Bikini Bottom. More specifically, one humble little goofball we all know (and love), Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants.
We’ve been so lucky to be part of a crew that has grown and morphed over the years in surprising ways. There are talented folks who have been with us since the very beginning and new members who grew up loving the show that they are now helping create. This is the secret formula to the show’s success.

On July 17, 1999, a little animated show created by an animator and marine biology educator debuted, and it changed Nickelodeon, TV animation, and pop culture forever. "SpongeBob SquarePants," which follows its titular sentient sea sponge living in the underwater city known as Bikini Bottom and working as a fry cook at a popular burger joint, quickly took the world by storm. It overtook "Pokémon" as the highest-rated children's show on television (at the height of Pokémania), and it reinvented Nickelodeon, solidifying the network as the home of the biggest all-ages animated TV shows.
A big part of the show's success is its visual storytelling. The episodes are full of visual gags and an eye for physical comedy that's reminiscent of Golden Age of Animation cartoons like "Merrie Melodies," there's a wealth of sharp scripts with smart jokes, and the show has a terrific ensemble cast of memorable characters and enough background...

SpongeBob SquarePants turned 25 years old this past May. During his quarter-century at the forefront of Nickelodeon programming, Tom Kenny’s beloved, boxy and endlessly upbeat fry cook has remained largely unchanged, with the exception of a brief animation “glow-up” that left the redesigned hero looking a little too much like a SpongeBob plush doll than SpongeBob himself.

Executives with Skydance Media say they have identified around $2 billion in potential savings by cutting costs across certain parts of Paramount Global’s business.
The affirmation was made during a conference call with Paramount investors this week, including Skydance Media founder and CEO David Ellison. On the call, Jeff Shell — the former Comcast executive who was named the incoming CEO of the new venture, tentatively called “New Paramount” — strongly indicated Paramount’s broadcast and cable TV networks could face some of the steepest expense reductions because “linear is going to keep declining.”
“We don’t think it’s going to worsen, but we don’t think it’s going to get better either,” Shell said on the call.

Sandy Cheeks is ready to take center stage.
One of the more memorable characters on “SpongeBob SquarePants,” a squirrel who lives in a dome underwater (and wears a scuba suit when she needs to), is about to star in her very own movie. And before “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie” splashes down on Netflix on August 2, you can watch the brand-new trailer above.
The new movie follows Sandy (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence), SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke) as they attempt to save their beloved town after it’s been scooped out of the ocean by an evil corporation. As is the case with earlier movies, “Saving Bikini Bottom” uses 3D computer animation and liberally mixes animation with live-action photography. Since its launch in 2019, Disney+ has been a reliable hub for some of the most important movies in film history. There’s every Disney animated film from “Snow White” forward, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar and the Muppets, Star Wars and Avatar. But the pipeline of new content has slowed dramatically, and as the price continues to rise, we think it’s time to give Disney+ the shove.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? The king of American children’s animation, that’s who.
It’s been 25 years since Nickelodeon premiered SpongeBob SquarePants, the aquatic comedy about Bikini Bottom’s finest porous line cook, and we still live under his vast shadow. While 21st-century television has largely been distinguished by difficult men, serious artists, and glossy prestige, the most indomitable titan of the medium from the past quarter century is a chipper sea sponge, the anti-Tony Soprano in every possible way. Millennial and Gen Z vernacular is defined by the series’s memes. Its franchise offerings have grossed more money than Despicable Me and Star Trek. The more pop culture went grimdark, the more the yellow optimist with a slide-whistle nose made the case for optimism. It’s SpongeBob’s world and we just live in it.

Stephen Hillenburg’s surreal animated series SpongeBob SquarePants may have had lots of characters with quite a tragic past that was unveiled at some point, but things like this were never actually highlighted about the show’s most successful marine citizen.
Apart from SpongeBob constantly struggling with no matter what happens in his life that he still tries to accept in as positive way as possible, his primary chef Mr. Krabs may have also had much worse times before getting his own restaurant and spending his free time counting all the coins he earned.

The new pricing will take effect on August 20, 2024 for all new Paramount+ customers. Existing Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will see the increase on their next billing date on or after September 20.
The last Paramount+ price hike took effect on June 24, 2023. That was when Paramount+ merged with Showtime. Happy Anniversary, basically.

Season three of Bridgerton ruled the streaming charts for a second straight week, holding onto most of its premiere week audience and racking up more than 2 billion minutes of viewing.
A pair of sci-fi films, Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas and Dune: Part Two, also had pretty strong showings in the week of May 20-26, and Max’s Hacks and Hulu’s Under the Bridge entered the rankings as they neared the end of their seasons.
Bridgerton had 2.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week, down just 21 percent from 2.76 billion for the previous seven days. The period drama had almost double the viewing time of the second-place show, Grey’s Anatomy (1.1 billion) — which, like Bridgerton, comes from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland. Kids’ favorite Bluey (1.07 billion minutes) crossed the billion-minute threshold for the 20th time in 21 measured weeks so far this year.

As the Annecy Animation Festival gets underway, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito has revealed development on a string of original films — including the Bad Bunny- and Will Ferrell-produced film “Dropz” and a “Swan Lake” adaptation — which will sit alongside franchises such as Transformers, Smurfs and SpongeBob.
Naito describes “Dropz” as “our E.T. about real kids in a super extraordinary situation.” Producers Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and David Koplan have teamed up with Bad Bunny, who is on board as an exec producer. Rob Letterman is directing and co-writing the script with Ike Holter. Naito adds that the story is “infused with fashion” and will be a “cultural statement” for kids and families.
“Muttnik” is a sci-fi comedy about a sweet puppy turned “Han Solo-type space bandit,” who is forced to return to the family on Earth that abandoned him. Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Zareh Nalbandian are producing.

A six-minute music video for Ariana Grande's latest single, "The Boy is Mine," has been released, and it finds the pop megastar channelling iconic Batman baddie/love interest, Catwoman.
The premise of the video focuses on You star Penn Badgley as the mayor of an unnamed city (we're guessing they couldn't call it Gotham), who decides to unleash an army of stray cats to rid the streets of a rat infestation. Grande plays a woman who is obsessed with the mayor and creates a love potion to make him fall for her.
Then, in a scene which appears to pay homage to Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle creating her costume in Tim Burton's Batman Returns, Grande dons a homemade Catwoman suit of her own and takes to the streets.
The tune is a single from Grande’s newest album, Eternal Eunshine, and samples Brandy and Monica's 1998 hit of the same name.

Zack Snyder and Nathan Lane were among the filmmakers and cast members that joined Netflix’s animation presentation to preview a full slate of upcoming animated features and series, during an event held Thursday in Hollywood, just days before the start of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

At the start of every episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants," Painty the Pirate appears to start the theme song. After his now iconic "Are YA Ready, Kids?!" warm-up, the show cuts to the image of a small island in the middle of the sea, before shifting down into the animated world of our titular, porous hero. The island is Bikini Atoll, a small part of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific island chain that became a bargaining chip between countries throughout the early 20th century. After World War II, the United States captured the land and forced out some 40 families residing on the island with promises of a return that became impossible. The area was instead turned into a nuclear weapons test site and, in the weirdest ways imaginable, became embedded in pop culture.
