Did you know that "Beetlejuice" is rated PG? One can only fathom what demonic force Tim Burton struck a bargain with to secure that rating for his beloved 1988 horror-comedy. In case you had forgotten, this is a movie in which Michael Keaton's Ghost With the Most drops one of the all-time greatest f-bombs before honking his d**k, gleefully mimes jerking off, and loiters around a supernatural strip club titled "Dante's Inferno Room." Meanwhile, Geena Davis rips her own face off and holds Alec Baldwin's bloodied, decapitated head at one point. This was also a few years out from the "stealth horror" of "Gremlins" and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" leading to the creation of the PG-13, which makes it that much more impressive just how many gnarly creatures and naughty moments Burton was able to sneak by the infamously uptight, conservative ratings board.

Before Netflix's "Stranger Things" became a pop culture juggernaut, the show's casting director, Carmen Cuba, came to showrunners The Duffer Brothers with a pitch: What if Joyce Byers, the frantic mother of one of the missing protagonists, was played by Winona Ryder? Looking back on the experience, Matt and Ross Duffer told Rolling Stone they "immediately fell in love with that idea," saying part of the reason they were excited was because Ryder was a staple of the 1980s films the Duffers grew up watching and would be paying homage to throughout the series. "Winona was a huge part of our childhood," Matt said. "We had a lot of her movies in our VHS collection."
Ryder, who admitted she didn't even know what "streaming" was when she was approached about the role in 2015, was simultaneously intrigued and terrified by the prospect, and she decided to take the part --...

Winona Ryder had “one condition” when joining “Stranger Things”: Don’t blow “Beetlejuice 2” for her.
Ryder had been meeting with “Beetlejuice” director Tim Burton in secret before “Stranger Things” even happened. Should “Beetlejuice 2” finally be greenlit, Ryder wanted assurances that Netflix would let her press pause on the TV series to go do the film sequel.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar (video below), Ryder says the “Beetlejuice 2” carveout was the first thing she discussed with “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer when she met with them to play their Joyce Byers.
“At the time, Tim [Burton] and I were talking about the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel,” Ryder said. “There have been moments over the last 15 years where we thought it was going to happen, but that’s the thing. It had to be perfect with everybody in order for it to happen. I remember at my...

Nice f–king trailer, honk honk.
On Thursday, Warner Bros. debuted a new trailer for Tim Burton’s upcoming “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the best look yet at the forthcoming legacyquel that the studio will debut in September.
Buzz for the “Beetlejuice” sequel has increased in recent weeks, particularly around its awards bona fides. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will open the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where Warner Bros. launched “Joker” four years ago before that project went on an unexpected – and largely unprecedented – awards season run. Whether a similar fate awaits “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is obviously unknown, but it’s not hard to imagine a lot of fans of the original warming to the idea of getting star Michael Keaton back into the Oscar race. (Keaton has never won an Academy Award and his only nomination came for 2014’s “Birdman.”)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tim Burton channelling his early mischief – the sort of weird, wonderful whimsy that was a hallmark of the first decade of his career. But in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, that magic looks to be back – with the latest trailer teasing a spooky and sprightly romp through the afterlife. Michael Keaton is grouching up a storm as the ghoulish bio-exorcist, there’s puppetry galore, a church dance sequence, and all kinds of grisly sight gags, decked out in sweetly gothic get-up. So, a Tim Burton movie, then. Watch the latest trailer here:
This latest look at the film offers a bit more plot – with Jenna Ortega’s incoming Astrid Deetz raising the spectre of Beetlejuice once more, Winona Ryder’s Lydia dealing with the fallout, and Beetlejuice himself causing chaos at the centre of it all. With six weeks to go until Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters, Warner Bros. has unveiled a new trailer for Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel film. Compared to the first trailer, today’s teaser offers much more in the way of plot details.
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, at least going off the trailer (and the provided plot synopsis), Jenna Ortega plays Astrid, the angsty teenage daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). She doesn’t seem to care for her mother too much, nor does she believe in ghosts — that is, until she stumbles upon the model of Winter River and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. Lydia then calls on an old friend, Mr. Juice himself (Michael Keaton), to save her daughter.

I don't know about you, but I kind of need Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" to be good. As a lonely, nerdy goth kid obsessed with Halloween and horror, I grew up loving the movies of Tim Burton, and the original "Beetlejuice" was one of the best. Then a curious thing happened: Burton's movies started to lose their charm. At some point, the filmmaker became something of a parody of himself. His films became kind of rote and lifeless. Now, Burton is back, returning to "Beetlejuice" with the sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." He's brought back original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, and thrown Jenna Ortega into the mix as well. But does that mean the movie will turn out to be good? Gosh, I sure hope so. It would be nice to enjoy a Tim Burton movie again, that's all I'm saying.
In the meantime, you can watch the new "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" trailer above.

Winona Ryder has been playing Joyce Byers on “Stranger Things” for almost 10 years now! That’s crazy long for one TV role. When she first met with the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, Winona had one condition – if they ever made a sequel to her classic 1988 movie “Beetlejuice,” she needed time off from “Stranger Things” to film it.
The Duffer Brothers agreed to let her go do the movie if it happened. That was Winona’s only request when signing on for the new show on Netflix. At the time, she didn’t really know what streaming was or how big the show might get. Winona talked with director Tim Burton over the years about a “Beetlejuice” follow-up. They had some ideas, like “Beetlejuice Goes to Outer Space,” but nothing stuck.
Luckily for Winona and the Duffer Brothers, “Beetlejuice 2” – now called “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” – filmed during breaks from “Stranger Things.

Winona Ryder revealed during a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar that she had only one condition when she first met “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer for a role they wanted her to play on Netflix: If “Beetlejuice 2” ever got off the ground, they’d have to let her take a break from the series to film it. They agreed, and Ryder was cast as the matriarch Joyce Byers in what would become one of Netflix’s biggest original series.
“I am literally on my 10th year playing her,” Ryder said in a video interview for the magazine. “It’s an absolute first for me to play a character for that long. It was huge to say yes to just one episode … they only gave me the pilot episode. I didn’t at the time know what streaming was. It was terrifying in that regard.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), has officially received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board – and it’s the rating you’ve probably been expecting. While the original film was rated PG, it would definitely have been a PG-13 if it were released today, and that’s exactly the rating the new film has received, a PG-13. What’s interesting is the reason given for this rating: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been rated PG-13 for violent content, macabre and bloody images, strong language, some suggestive material and brief drug use.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith...

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is headed to theaters on September 6, and the official MPA rating has arrived this week. While the original family classic Beetlejuice was rated “PG” back in 1988, the upcoming sequel from WB has been rated “PG-13” by the MPA.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is officially rated “PG-13” for “Violent content, macabre and bloody images, strong language, some suggestive material and brief drug use.”
The original Beetlejuice was released four years after the creation of the “PG-13” rating but managed to secure itself a “PG” rating… even with a memorable F-bomb. Go figure!
Michael Keaton stars alongside Winona Ryder in this year’s sequel, with the cast also including Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci.
Here’s the official plot synopsis: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned...

Actor Alec Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the October 2021 death of "Rust" cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
However, the trial came to an abrupt end on Friday night when Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer decided that the prosecution knew about evidence that law enforcement officials did not disclose to the defense.
The violation, which prompted special prosecutor Erlinda Johnson to quit earlier in the day - led to a dismissal with prejudice, meaning that Baldwin will no longer face criminal consequences for Hutchins' death.

Although photographs were published online that showed Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria Baldwin, his legal team, and a few others at a hotel bar following the end of the “Rust” trial, a source told People magazine that the couple was just “relieved that it’s over” and were not “celebrating” the end of the 3-year ordeal.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), is set to reach theatres on September 6th – and when it reaches the big screen, we’ll have the chance to see Winona Ryder reprise the role of Lydia Deetz, the first time in her career that she has been able to revisit a character in a sequel. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ryder revealed that her one condition when she agreed to star in the Netflix series Stranger Things back in 2015 was that, if the Beetlejuice sequel ever moved into production, the show’s creators the Duffer Brothers would have to let her clear her schedule and make the movie.
Ryder said (with thanks to Movieweb for the transcription), “At the time, Tim and I were talking about the Beetlejuice sequel. There have been moments over the last 15 years that we thought it was gonna happen but,...

It’s been over 30 years since we first met the ghost with the most, Beetlejuice, in his hilarious 1988 film. Now the long-awaited sequel is almost here! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters September 6th and I cannot wait to see what mess the wonky ghost has gotten himself into this time.
Winona Ryder, who played the quirky teen Lydia back in the day, has been secretly meeting with director Tim Burton for years to talk about doing a sequel. She must have really wanted to revisit her iconic role if she was meeting with him behind her agent’s back! Burton wasn’t sure about doing another one at first either, but he tossed around some crazy ideas like sending Beetlejuice to outer space.
Michael Keaton is back as the striped-suited ghoul and says he and Burton were cautious about ruining the first film. “We thought, let’s just leave it alone...

Winona Ryder has been trying to get a “Beetlejuice” sequel made for decades by meeting with director Tim Burton.
Just like how lead star Michael Keaton and Burton were kicking around ideas for a follow-up film, Ryder told Harper’s Bazaar that she was working with Burton in secret to make sure a sequel was greenlit. Now, more than 40 years after the original 1988 horror-comedy classic, Ryder and Keaton are both reprising their respective roles for Burton in sequel film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
“There were a lot of times my agents didn’t know that I was meeting up with him,” Ryder said of coordinating with Burton.
As Harper’s Bazaar added, “In the intervening decades, though, Ryder and Burton kept in touch, meeting secretly to discuss making a second ‘Beetlejuice.'”
Burton told the outlet that there were numerous concepts for sequels across the years.

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice opened up a whole lot of opportunities for Winona Ryder in Hollywood. However, the film almost cost her another critically acclaimed role in her career. Lydia Deetz was a weird character and Ryder had to ditch her looks to transform into the character. When she met with the makers of Heathers in the new look, they did not initially want her in the role.

She was eventually able to convince them and star as Veronica Sawyer in the film. Beetlejuice was a critical and commercial success, even winning an Academy Award for Best Makeup. While Heathers failed at the box office, it went on to become a cult-classic dark comedy film.

With just a couple of months left before Tim Burton and Michael Keaton's long-awaited Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrives in theaters, DC Comics has shared a slew of variant covers featuring the chaotic "bio-exorcist" invading the DC Universe.
These will begin rolling out next month and feature the sequel's title character crossing paths with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn.
However, the cover which has received the most attention is Beetlejuice looming large over Batman; it's not just any version of the Dark Knight, though! As we're sure you'll notice, that's the Batman played by Keaton in Burton's Batman and Batman Returns.
Here's when and where you'll find each of these variant covers:
Gotham City Sirens #2 - August 13 House of Secrets #92 (2024 Facsimile Edition) - August 21 Nightwing #117 - August 21 Superman #17 - August 21 Wonder Woman #12 - August 21 Batman #152 - September 4

Jenna Ortega has been acting since she was 9, but her fame hit a new level after her Emmy-nominated leading role in Wednesday, Tim Burton’s Netflix series about Wednesday Addams that debuted in 2022.
Around that time, Ortega met her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Winona Ryder, whose fame also took off when she was in her late teens/early 20s, and the two really hit it off. In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar tied to a Ryder cover story, Ortega revealed that Ryder was a guiding light for her.
“She definitely helped me feel less alone,” Ortega told the publication of the Stranger Things star. “It’s a very isolating experience and a scary one. Being able to speak to somebody who had witnessed that firsthand, maybe even more, was a great source of comfort for me, and I can’t thank her enough for that.”

Composer Nomi Abadi is suing “Batman” and “Beetlejuice” composer Danny Elfman for defamation stemming from statements he made to Rolling Stone last year that were included in an investigative piece about a settlement he made with his one-time protégé after she accused him of repeated sexual harassment and misconduct.
Abadi’s lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Elfman “peddled appalling lies for publication to Rolling Stone about Nomi.” The list of alleged lies covers statements made by the “Simpsons” composer and his representatives that claimed he did not engage in sexual misconduct toward Abadi, never masturbated in front of her, never touched her inappropriately and “never placed his bodily fluids in a martini glass he presented to Nomi,” as she alleged. The complaint also slammed Elfman and his team for depicting Abadi as “a scorned woman seeking revenge and money to make Elfman “pay for having...

Six months of horror releases down, six to go! With our 2024 Horror Preview, we’re looking ahead at some of the other horror movies we can’t wait to check out this year. For now, we’re only including movies that have a known release date, so films like the remakes/reboots of The Toxic Avenger and Witchboard are currently absent because they don’t have a release date yet, even though they’re likely to show up at some point in 2024. Here we go:
Longlegs – Theatrical, July 12
The marketing for Longlegs, a psychological horror thriller from director Osgood Perkins – who, yes, is the son of actor Anthony Perkins – has been so awesome and creepy, the actual film might struggle to live up to it. Still, it sounds very promising, with genre regular Maika Monroe taking on the role of an FBI agent who is tracking an elusive serial killer played by Nicolas Cage.

Daylight come and me wan’ take this home! Neca has unveiled a 1:4 scale talking Beetlejuice figure set to coincide with the upcoming release of sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Oh, crap, that was three times! Unfortunately, the figure didn’t just appear in my living room so this might have to be an actual purchase.
Toy collectors and Beetlejuice fans will note that this isn’t an original figure but instead a re-issue of one that Neca put out in 2008 to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary. But considering those listed on eBay go for hundreds of dollars, fans might want to consider this re-issue. That said, it would have been cool if they had at least updated it for the 2024 character. As for lines the Beetlejuice figure says, they aren’t listed on the box art but the 2008 version said things like, “Thank you! Woo! That is why I won...

If Universal Pictures decides to drag out the body of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s 2004 horror-comedy masterpiece Shaun of the Dead from its resting place and give it the unholy franchise undeath treatment, all the vinyl pressings of the Batman soundtrack in the world won’t be able to stop them.
Wright and Pegg’s landmark Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy concluded over a decade ago, and the latter actor/writer has been clear in the ensuing years that he’s moved on from playing different flavors of the action-comedy leading man role in quippy, science fiction-y cult classics. Cassandra Jenkins isn’t much of a rock-‘n’-roll singer. “Clams Casino,” the second track on the Brooklyn singer-songwriter’s third studio album, My Light, My Destroyer, is the zippiest rocker she’s penned to date, but her whispercore vocals—so pitch-perfect on the album’s opener, the hazy morning reverie that is “Devotion”—clash with the song’s jagged electric guitars and chugging rhythm. Fortunately, this is an anomaly on an album in which Jenkins’s voice typically melts seamlessly into the subtle, vast sonic tapestry.
Working with a large ensemble of collaborators, Jenkins explores a broader range of genres and moods on My Light, My Destroyer than she ever has before. Most of the musical elements feel fairly familiar—folksy strumming, Pixies-ish guitar riffs, jazzy saxophone—but when they’re woven together with field recordings and found sounds, something new, almost otherworldly begins to emerge. We've heard that a new trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was set to be released this week, and while it still might be (there are whispers that it may arrive later today), a leaked version has now been shared online - just in case if you happen to be the impatient type!
This latest teaser features quite a bit of new footage, as Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz attempts to prevent those around her from saying the Ghost with the Most's (Michael Keaton) name three times. She's unsuccessful, of course, and the lecherous Bio-Exorcist is summoned back to the land of the living.
From there, we see Lydia and her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) being chased by a sandworm, another shot of Monica Bellucci as Betelgeuse's vengeful wife Delores, and the titular demon interacting with Bob and a whole host of fellow shrunken-headed individuals.

Beetlejuice 2 (Aka Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) is due to premiere Stateside on September 6, but those attending this Summer’s Venice Film Festival will get to see it early!
We learned, via Variety, that the world premiere of Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his iconic 1988 horror comedy will take place on August 28. Although Beetlejuice Beetlejuice won’t be competing against other movies at the festival, I hope it blows everything else out of the water.
Burton expressed his delight at having the premiere of his film at the La Biennale Di Venezia-hosted event, saying, “I’m very excited by this. It means a lot to me to have the world premiere of this film at the Venice Film Festival.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will reunite Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Newcomers to the franchise include Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux. However, not all of the original cast will return.

Say it once. Say it twice. The organizers of the 81st Venice International Film Festival have said his name three times to summon him for the opening of this year’s event. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Tim Burton’s return to the macabre comedy of the afterlife, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, will be making its world premiere at the start of the Venice festivities. The festival kicks off on August 28, but the Ghost with the Most will not be in contention with other competing films. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will officially open in North America on September 6, after it internationally opens on September 4.
Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera expressed his excitement over the opportunity to premiere the sequel to the 1988 Michael Keaton classic, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice marks the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters of Tim Burton’s cinema, but also the happy confirmation of the extraordinary visionary talent and...

Come se dice “Beetlejuice” in Italiano?
The first of the major fall festivals has announced its opening night film, and, perhaps a bit surprising, the Venice International Film Festival will kick off with “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Tim Burton’s “next generation” sequel to his 1988 classic.
The out-of-competition screening will serve as the movie’s world premiere.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” brings back Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Michael Keaton as the titular undead prankster, two-time Oscar nominee Winona Ryder as the gloomy gal who summons him into our realm, and Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara as her artsy mother upset about moving to the sticks. Jenna Ortega, a Burton-world alum after the hit series “Wednesday,” is new to the franchise as Ryder’s daughter, plus Justin Theroux (playing Ryder’s husband), Willem Dafoe, Monica Belluci, and Burn Gorman. Not returning are Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis’s characters or Jeffrey Jones as Ryder’s dad,...
