Nielsen’s latest update has plenty of good news for Netflix as well, which now owns more total TV viewing than Paramount’s streaming and TV outlets combined.
The highs just keep getting higher for the medium of streaming. The television ratings firm Nielsen has released its monthly The Gauge report, which measures how American viewers are watching TV and which platforms are receiving the most viewership. In the month of June, streaming accounted for 40.3% of all TV watched in the United States, the first time it has ever accounted for more than 40% of viewing time in the history of The Gauge report.
Key Details: Disney+, Tubi, Prime Video, Netflix, and Hulu all accounted for more than 2% of all TV watched in June. Netflix is now fourth among all media companies in aggregated TV usage. The onset of summer vacation has helped streaming rise, as kids have more time to stream content.

The hot streak at the summer box office remains alive and well as director Lee Isaac Chung's "Twisters" did much, much better on opening weekend than anyone expected it to. The standalone sequel to the classic 1996 summer blockbuster "Twister" had been expected to open in the $50 million range based on early tracking numbers. Some analysts, however, had predicted that the disaster flick would open much higher. That proved to be true, so much so that Chung's crowd-pleaser has found its way into the record books with the biggest opening weekend ever for a disaster movie in the U.S.
Universal Pictures' "Twisters" took in an estimated $80.5 million domestically, easily topping the charts this past weekend. With that, it breaks a very specific record held by Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow," which hit theaters 20 years ago in 2004. That film opened to $68.7 million domestically and, ever since, that...

A new look at Skeleton Crew has just found its way online (via SFFGazette.com) and, believe it or not, it was discovered in a thrift store; however, we've confirmed it's the real deal. This has to be one of the strangest sources of a leak to date, though we're not complaining as it offers a new look at the show's leads.
The presence of those skulls is interesting and we're confident the cloaked figure leading the four youngsters is Jude Law's mysterious Jedi.
As for that mysterious droid, we believe he's accompanying the crew on this adventure and is likely called Sm-33. His head resembles a skull and we can't help but wonder whether that's where the name of the titular crew comes from.
Skeleton Crew takes place around the same time as The Mandalorian and is expected to tie into that and Ahsoka. How important it will...

Gina Carano is an icon in the world of Hollywood. On top of being an Mma fighter, she has starred in some very critically acclaimed projects, ranging from Deadpool to Haywire, and even The Mandalorian. Through her various pursuits, she has embodied the essence of versatility and become a figure of inspiration for many.

One would assume that her stature in society would exempt her from the harsh realities of sexism. However, the cruel thing about chauvinism is that it spares no one. Unfortunately, no amount of achievements seems to stop people from questioning whether a woman should be in a particular field.
Carano was asked a similar question by Mma legend Nick Diaz, and she knew exactly what to say to make him understand her perspective.

Lee Isaac Chung's "Minari" is a film of quiet power that draws from the filmmaker's experience growing up on a farm in rural Arkansas. It's a film that gently immerses you in the lives of a Korean-American family attempting to start a farm; it is wise and funny and sad, and, in the end, profound in unexpected ways. "Minari" stays with you. It's what you would call a "grower" (one that was patiently guided to modest box office success and six Academy Award nominations by A24).
"Twisters," Chung's follow up to "Minari," is not what anyone would call a "grower." It's a gargantuan studio tentpole tricked out with the best CGI and sound f/x a $155 million budget can buy. If you see "Twisters" in the right environment, it will stay with you, too –- if only because your ears will be ringing from its intense depiction of very bad weather.

Oscar-nominated director Lee Isaac Chung is stepping into the realm of summer blockbusters with "Twisters." Hitting theaters this weekend, the film serves as a standalone sequel to Jan de Bont's 1996 smash box office hit "Twister." It's a big step up for Chung, who previously directed the low-budget "Minari," which was one of the most acclaimed movies of 2020. And while this is his feature follow-up, Chung has had some experience working in the blockbuster realm on the small screen in the "Star Wars" universe. As it turns out, that experience directly paved the way for him to land the gig directing this massive summer tentpole.
Chung recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in honor of "Twisters" touching down in theaters. During the conversation, the filmmaker was asked if his work on "The Mandalorian" season 3 and the upcoming "Star Wars" series "Skeleton Crew" from Jon Watts were warm-up jobs for something bigger.

Euphoria season 3 is finally coming, but new seasons of modern TV shows are taking years to make. We take a look at why.
The past couple of weeks has brought a lot of good news for fans of modern, prestige TV. Euphoria season 3 is finally heading into production next January and we’ll be getting the new season of Severance in the same month. Meanwhile, Stranger Things season 5 is now halfway through filming.
This would all be great news, except every one of these shows were last on TV three years ago, in 2022. The wait between seasons has stretched from roughly a year, maybe two, to several. It’ll be 2026 before we see a new season of Euphoria and by then, many of us will have largely forgotten what happened to Rue and her friends since the last time we saw them.
Why has the wait become so long?

“Jackie Chan is a legend, just to have that opportunity was exciting. He was wonderful,” Macchio said. “Lot of heart, lot of soul and caring, I will say that about Jackie. He loves being on set and it was like his first day every day. I love seeing that at his age and time of his career because I like to try to bring that as well, but a great young cast on that one, and we’ll see where it goes.” Seeing those two on screen together will be something special.

After co-starring with Pedro Pascal in ‘The Mandalorian,’ Gina Carano gained international fame with a role that suited her well in the series. However, her tenure at Disney came to an abrupt end when her character was rewritten and she was dismissed, sparking a lingering controversy.
The reasons behind Carano’s departure are widely known: her political and ideological beliefs clashed with Disney’s values, particularly her anti-woke stance and other controversial remarks. She has since pursued legal action against Disney, seeking reinstatement or compensation. Amidst this, Carano has not hesitated to publicly criticize her former employer, and another opportunity for confrontation has recently arisen.
The latest trigger for Gina Carano’s renewed criticism of Disney was the incident involving Kyle Gass, Jack Black’s bandmate from Tenacious D, who made an inappropriate joke regarding the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Despite actions taken by both Black and Gass...

However, Gina Carano was once dismissed by Disney, and the show’s character was rewritten. This led to a lengthy scandal that is still ongoing.
Everyone is aware of what transpired and why it transpired later. Because the actress’s political and ideological beliefs did not align with Disney’s values, she was fired. Always two, there are. “Star Wars” fans were treated to many things throughout Episode 8 of “The Acolyte,” but among them were two character cameos of legendary figures in “Star Wars” lore showing up in the Disney+ series’ season finale. The final shot of the season settles just above the very recognizable ears and wispy white hairs of Yoda, long-lived enough to have seen the Republic at its height before its fall. But “The Acolyte” achieves balance in the (cameo) force by tucking in a true Iykyk glimpse of a legendary dark lord, too.
“Plagueis was always in the finale, in every version,” creator Leslye Headland told IndieWire on an upcoming episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. Darth Plagueis the Wise is a Sith Lord referenced most notably in “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” as part of Palpatine’s (Ian Mcdiarmid) pitch to Anakin (Hayden Christensen) to join the dark side — he was,...

This article contains spoilers for The Acolyte season 1 finale.
After eight short episodes, The Acolyte has come to an end. The Disney+ series upped the ante with an action-packed finale that tied off most of the show’s loose ends and neatly set things up for a potential season 2. With The Acolyte being billed as Star Wars’ first Sith-centric live-action outing, the series was always going to explore the darker side of the Force and how the Jedi aren’t the white knights they’re sometimes portrayed as.
While Amandla Stenberg was the show’s Mvp in dual roles as the Force-sensitive Mae and Osha, The Acolyte ended up being a much bigger story that encompassed the Jedi trying to hold onto their power at the end of the High Republic era. Boasting a sneaky Sith cameo, a certain pint-sized favorite, and all the usual complaints that the writers have broken canon,...

In early 2019, Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung had come to terms with the fact his filmmaking career might be over. He’d already recognized the writing on the wall a year earlier and decided to pen a semi-autobiographical script known as Minari, but everything would soon change in February 2019. That’s when Plan B agreed to produce the story about his childhood experiences on his family’s Arkansas farm. A24 joined as distributors a few months later, and Chung, who’d been teaching in South Korea at the time, was suddenly on set that July, recreating many of his own boyhood memories via the film’s shooting location of Tulsa, Oklahoma. (Chung later insisted that Twisters also shoot in Oklahoma, and the childhood home of Daisy Edgar-Jones’ main character is owned by a Minari extra.)
Minari would go on to premiere at 2020’s Sundance Film Festival, winning the U.S.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is an upcoming live-action series set to expand the Star Wars universe, with a December premiere on Disney+. Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the series follows a group of children, likely Force-sensitive, who embark on an adventure to find their way back to their home planet after a mysterious discovery.
Jude Law’s character is expected to play a crucial role, acting as both guardian and mentor, guiding the children on their journey.
The story will draw many parallels to children’s classics like ‘The Goonies,’ making it enjoyable for both kids and adults. Much like ‘The Mandalorian,’ which features an adult (Din Djarin) caring for a child (Grogu), ‘Skeleton Crew’ will blend elements appealing to a wide audience.
While promoting ‘Twisters,’ Lee Isaac Chung shared with GamesRadar what viewers can expect from this upcoming Star Wars installment:

While promoting ‘Twisters,’ Lee Isaac Chung shared with GamesRadar what viewers can expect from this upcoming Star Wars installment:
I can’t wait for people to see this thing.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is the name of an upcoming live-action series that will expand the Star Wars universe. The series is currently scheduled for a December premiere on Disney+ and was created by the duo consisting of Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
The series will follow a group of children, most likely Force-sensitive, who will have to go on an adventure if they want to return to their home planet, from which they got lost after a strange discovery. The children will most likely be chaperoned by Jude Law’s character. He will be the one to find the kids and guide them on their adventure, serving as both a guardian and a mentor figure to the youngest characters.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ concluded with its final episode amidst a turbulent journey marred by controversies including review manipulation and threats.
Even prior to its premiere, the show faced backlash over statements from the cast and crew, many of which were proven mostly untrue, particularly regarding perceptions of its ideological slant.
While some critiques of the show’s overall quality may have been exaggerated or unfounded, the numbers paint a clear picture: ‘The Acolyte’ did not achieve significant viewership success.
Recent Nielsen data ranks it second-lowest in terms of “minutes-watched,” trailing only ‘Andor.’ Despite discussions about a potential second season, current analysis suggests this outcome is increasingly improbable.
Looking ahead, there are numerous live-action projects in development, including Mangold’s Star Wars films, a standalone movie featuring Rey, the continuation of ‘The Mandalorian’ with Grogu, ‘Ahsoka’ season 2, and the upcoming release of ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.’

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ released its final episode. The overall run of the show was marked with numerous controversies ranging from review-bombing and review-boosting to death threats.
Even before the show premiered there was considerable backlash generated by some statements made by the cast and crew, most of which turned out to be untrue for the most part, especially statements related to the overall wokeness of the show.
Even though perhaps some of the things critiqued when it comes to the overall quality of the show were exaggerated and without merit, we cannot deny that in terms of pure numbers, ‘The Acolyte’ was far from a successful show.
Latest Nielsen numbers revealed that the show is second-lowest watched in terms of “minutes-watched,” having only ‘Andor’ behind. There’s been talk regarding the potential season 2, but as we analyzed recently, at this point it seems highly unlikely.

Apart from ‘The Mandalorian,’ viewership Wars titles on Disney+ has often fizzled out as their seasons progressed.
Star Wars may be set in a galaxy far, far away, but Disney is hoping that ratings success for its Star Wars TV series on Disney+ is not on the other side of the universe. New data from Luminate is helping to quantify the struggles that Disney+ Star Wars shows have had in maintaining their audiences, and it demonstrates the problem is getting worse. Ahead of the season finale of the streamer’s latest Star Wars series “The Acolyte” on Tuesday evening, I’ll dive into the numbers and lay out just how badly some of these series have performed.
Key Details: “The Acolyte” was the most-watched Disney+ premiere of the year, but its third episode saw a 22% decline in viewership. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ahsoka” also saw double-digit viewership drops between their first and second weeks of availability.

Gina Carano has been fighting and is now suing Disney over her dismissal from “Star Wars” and the damage to her reputation. Her issues started when she politely refused to put pronouns in her bio on Twitter, and she was fired after posting about how people were manipulated into hating Jewish people during the Holocaust.
This is the comment that got her labeled as “abhorrent” by Lucasfilm and Disney:
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children… Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Gina Carano rose to global prominence through her role alongside Pedro Pascal in ‘The Mandalorian,’ where the character was tailor-made for her, becoming one of the series’ most beloved figures. However, Carano was ultimately dismissed by Disney, and her character was written out of the show, sparking a significant online controversy.
The reasons behind her departure are well-documented: Disney chose not to renew her contract primarily due to her political and ideological views, which clashed with Disney’s policies. This included her outspoken stance against woke culture, among other controversial statements. Consequently, her character was removed from ‘The Mandalorian,’ and the series continued without her.
Carano has initiated legal action against Disney, seeking reinstatement or compensation. However, she has also repeatedly criticized her former employer, prompting Disney to respond assertively. The company filed a motion to dismiss, addressing Carano’s statements which they deemed excessive.

Lee Isaac Chung is barely settled in a café chair parked on this South Pasadena sidewalk when he begins our conversation with the question he’s most expecting: “So how did I go from Minari to this?”
He laughs about it now, but this late June meeting is on the eve of a global Twisters media tour during which he’ll likely be asked this more times than he can count. Box office tracking is promising ahead of the July 18 domestic release. Test screenings have gone well. Golden boy Glen Powell’s smile is all over the trailer. And Universal Pictures, the film’s studio, is hardly the only conglomerate in town holding its breath in hopes that this spiritual sequel to a 1996 mega-hit will put bodies in theaters at home and abroad. Yet its success is ultimately riding on the unassuming 45-year-old indie filmmaker — one who not long ago...

Watching an actual barn burn to the ground while filming “Minari,” Lee Isaac Chung knew he wanted to make a disaster movie.
The Academy Award-nominated filmmaker behind that bittersweet and semiautobiographical portrait of South Korean immigrant life in rural Arkansas is now the director of “Twisters” — not a reboot, not a sequel, but an expansion of the world built (and destroyed) by the 1996 tornado blockbuster. Here, a team of science-loving storm chasers led by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos become rivals to a group of scrappier thriller seekers led by Glen Powell in this summer’s ultimate blockbuster spectacle — and its most forceful argument for the importance of the big-screen experience.
But back to that barn-burning that so intoxicated its director. In “Minari,” Jacob (Steven Yeun) watches flames engulf his barn after his mother-in-law (Yuh-Jung Young) sets fire to it. Filming that moment was a high Chung has been chasing ever since,...

Even after multiple reboots, The Terminator franchise still hasn't managed to recapture the magic of James Cameron's original movies in theaters. Now, that could finally change when it returns to television later this year with Netflix's animated Terminator Zero.
The first trailer has been released today (via SFFGazette.com) and it showcases Sonoya Mizuno's Eiko, a resistance fighter sent back in time to stop Skynet's attack on humanity. This series will tie into previous stories but also looks set to be a relatively standalone new entry.
The show looks better than expected and might just be the return to form for Terminator we know many of you have been waiting for.
Here's the official synopsis for Terminator Zero:
"2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity.

Star Wars remains one of the most influential franchises in history. Whether you’re a fan or not, its impact is undeniable, with familiar names and titles known worldwide. Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the franchise has undergone changes, not always positive, but has also expanded, resulting in a wealth of new Star Wars content. Among these productions is the widely acclaimed series ‘The Mandalorian,’ featuring Pedro Pascal in the lead role.
The series has enjoyed global success but has also sparked controversy, particularly with the dismissal of Gina Carano. Now, another potential controversy looms as an extra has disclosed a noteworthy practice employed by ‘The Mandalorian’ producers.
This report stems from an interview with Nicole Kreuzer, an extra from the first season of ‘The Mandalorian’ (filmed in 2018), published by ‘Capital & Main.’ Kreuzer revealed a peculiar practice: phones were locked away to prevent leaks, and actors underwent extensive face scanning with over 100 cameras.

Gus Fring's war with Walter White may have blown up in his face, but Giancarlo Esposito walked away from "Breaking Bad" with a revitalized career. He's one of Hollywood's greatest working heavies, with his roles as Moff Gideon on "The Mandalorian" and Stan Edgar on "The Boys" to prove it.
As a result, he's been fancast as countless Marvel characters -- and those wishes finally came true. The recently released trailer for "Captain America: Brave New World" dropped a look at Esposito's character, and he's a ruthless, gun-toting mercenary/terrorist clad in sunglasses and a leather trench coat.

Dave Filoni is responsible for fleshing out much of the Clone Wars with his brilliant animated series. However, there was also a film that the director worked on that introduced Ahsoka Tano as Anakin’s padwan, called Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

This film was well received and beloved by fans, and while there has been an entire show covering what happens in the wake of it, Dave Filoni revealed in 2011 that there might be a chance that fans could get more of it, but only if George Lucas was up for it.

Yoda's Full Name Is The Funniest Thing In All of Star Wars - Main Image
Star Wars has always been known for its weird names, from pod-racer Ebe E. Endecott to the part-time singer, part-time bounty hunter Sy Snootles. However, none of these names are anywhere near as mind-blowing as the full name for Jedi Master Yoda.
As to be expected from original creator George Lucas, the introduction of Star Wars’ little green friend in Empire Strike Back’s Dagobah scene would’ve had a much stranger name than the iconic Yoda. Instead, the swamp-dwelling Jedi Master was to be known by his scrapped full name “Minch Yoda”.
Who is Minch Yoda?
In a since-deleted entry on the old official Star Wars Databank website, Lucasfilm revealed that Yoda’s name was originally known as Minch in early treatments for Episode V. In multiple scripts for the iconic, and best,...

The summer box office has rebounded in recent weeks thanks to the blockbuster success of animated movies like "Despicable Me 4" and Pixar's "Inside Out 2," which is already one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. We also had a blockbuster horror breakout in the form of "A Quiet Place: Day One." But has the time come for an old-school blockbuster to become a theatrical hit? If the early numbers are any indication, it appears as though "Twisters" will indeed keep the hot streak alive as the disaster flick figures to get off to a promising start.
"Twisters" is currently eyeing an opening weekend between $40 and $55 million domestically when it arrives next weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter. That said, tracking from other outlets suggests that is a modest number even on the high end. Box Office Theory has the film taking in anywhere between $71 and $83 million in its debut.

An original Y-wing filming miniature from 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope and Leia’s bikini from Return Of The Jedi are up for auction this month.
Assuming your bank balance can take the strain, you could own a piece of Star Wars history later this month. Heritage Auctions is holding an entertainment-themed sale in late July, with the lots including a Y-wing Starfighter miniature from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and the bikini costume worn by Carrie Fisher in Return Of The Jedi.
The Y-wing is one of two models made for the original Star Wars; designed to be used in close-up shots, it was built for the film’s shoot in 1976 at Ilm and based on designs by artists Collin Cantwell and Ralph McQuarrie. The Y-wing up for auction has a starting bid of $300,000, though its sale price is likely to be much higher; an...
