Exclusive: Netflix is developing a feature adaptation of A Thousand Boy Kisses, the bestselling novel written by the UK’s Tillie Cole, sources tell Deadline.
Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will direct from a script by Liz Maccie (Siren), with David Hoberman producing for Hobie Films. The project marks a reteam for Chbosky and Maccie on the heels of Nonnas, the comedy starring Vince Vaughn for Fifth Season, 1Community and Madison Wells, on which we were first to report.
Originally published by Bloom Books in 2016, the novel’s protagonist is seventeen-year-old Rune Kristiansen, who in returning from his native Norway to the sleepy town of Blossom Grove, Georgia, where he befriended Poppy Litchfield as a child, has just one thing on his mind. Why did the girl who was one half of his soul, who promised to wait faithfully for his return, cut him off without a word of explanation?...

Stereophonic is now slated to perform at the Tony Awards.
The decision comes amid outcry from fans and the playwright, David Adjmi, himself, after the initial performance lineup was announced and did not include the show. While Stereophonic is a play, it features a score by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, and has been nominated for best score, as well as 12 other Tonys.
Tony producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner had hinted Tuesday that the show may be performing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producers were asked if there had been further discussions about them performing.
“There are always discussions that start here and here,” Weiss replied, putting his hands out the length of about a ruler. “There’s a lot of speculation and people forming their own judgments and opinions, and we are trying on our show to represent the season as well as we possibly...

There’s maybe no major auteur in cinema as unassuming as Richard Linklater. A Houston, Texas born film nerd who got his start making DIY, low-budget films around Austin, Linklater has maintained the scrappy, laidback vibe of his first feature even as his prestige has risen and his budgets have grown. The average Linklater film unfolds with a careful sense of effortlessness, loosely moving through vignettes with a keen naturalistic flow.
That’s not to say Linklater is an unambitious filmmaker; far from it. This is a man who took a seemingly small one day romance film in “Before Sunrise” and created an ambitious 20-year trilogy out of it, using the love story of Jesse and Céline as a canvas upon which to explore ideas of aging, growth, and the cruel passage of time. With “Boyhood,” he took a completely new approach to the classic coming-of-age narrative by shooting on...

Exclusive: As his acclaimed comedic thriller Hit Man approaches its June 7 release on Netflix, filmmaker Richard Linklater may have identified his next project, as sources tell Deadline that he’s in development on a film called Blue Moon.
Taking its name from the 1934 ballad written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, the film follows Hart as he attempts to save face while celebrating his former partner Rodgers’ great success on the night of his musical Oklahoma!‘s Broadway opening. While it’s believed that this will end up being Linklater’s next film, that’s not entirely clear at present.
We’re told that Robert Kaplow — co-writer of Linklater’s 2008 film Me and Orson Welles — penned the script for Blue Moon and that Linklater will produce the project alongside his manager John Sloss.

Ben Platt’s debut studio album, 2019’s Sing to Me Instead, leaned toward the kind of traditional vocal pop that’s typically associated with artists whose roots are in theater. Where it was filled with soft songs to quell an anxious, lonely heart, 2021’s Reverie was its antithesis, a synth-pop-inflected soundtrack to falling in love in your childhood bedroom.
On his third studio album, Honeymind, Platt—who’s now engaged to fellow Broadway actor Noah Galvin—sounds even more confident in his queerness. Although he laments having found true love, he doesn’t shy away from sharing insights into previous relationships. On “Andrew,” he sings: “My senses go numb/My brain is on fire/They say wanting someone is supposed to be fun/That’s because they never loved an Andrew.”

Richard Linklater sits in awe of Paul Mescal during production on “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Linklater is adapting the Stephen Sondheim musical across two decades, with Mescal playing the composer character Franklin Shepard. Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein are also in the cast.
Linklater told The Times UK that Mescal is “transcendent” in the role, which he took on still as a rising star — in other words, before his Oscar nomination for “Aftersun.”
“He’s just a transcendent talent,” Linklater said of Mescal, “and he can really sing…I’m just so happy we connected right before he went supernova.”
Mescal previously showed off his singing range in the musical “Carmen.” He also presented his stage acting skills during a West End revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

Stephen Colbert’s sit-down with Presidents Biden, Obama and Clinton at last night’s fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall proved to be every bit the draw the Biden campaign had hoped for.
According to campaign officials, the sold-out event raised a record-setting $26 million-plus for Biden’s reelection campaign.
Colbert’s on-stage discussion with the three presidents was at turns both serious and funny, with each warning of the possible perils of a second Trump presidency. In the photo-op of the night, Colbert, Clinton and Obama joined Biden in wearing his trademark aviator sunglasses.
Tickets to the fundraiser, which also featured appearances from Mindy Kaling, Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele, ranged in price from $225 up to $500,000 a seat, with those contributing at higher levels offered the opportunity to have their photo taken together with all three Democratic presidents.

Joe Biden’s New York fundraiser this evening with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton is expected to raise more than $25 million, an enormous haul for a one-evening event.
Biden’s reelection campaign has heavily promoted the Radio City Music Hall gathering, which will include musical performances by Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Lizzo, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele, among others.
Around 5,000 are expected to attend the event, while the campaign also has been raising smaller-dollar contributions via an online contest in which participants could win a trip to New York and a photo with the three presidents. Proceeds go to the Biden Victory Fund, a joint committee of the Biden Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. The fund accepts individual donations up to $929,600.

Milo Ventimiglia was just 19 years old and starting out in Hollywood when he was cast as a gay teen in the 1996 short, “Must Be the Music.” You’d think his team would have advised him not to play queer, but Ventimiglia says he received nothing but support to sign on.
“I played a gay teenager who is going out with his friends, meets a guy but his buddy’s best friend is already kind of sweet on that guy,” Ventimiglia remembered. “Then he ends up giving them a ride home and he gets the guys number. It was a very sweet story.”
The short was produced by Gus Van Sant.
“That’s the great thing about being an actor,” the “This Is Us” star said at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday. “You play a lot of different roles. You represent a lot of roles. You represent a lot of stories.

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. The best in independent film and television were honored at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards!
Plenty of A-List stars were in attendance at the event on Sunday afternoon (February 25) at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.
Movies are only eligible for a Spirit Award if they have a budget of less than $30 million, so there are some awards favorites like Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Killers of the Flower Moon that are not nominated.
American Fiction, May December, and Past Lives lead the pack this year with five nominations each.
