Taylor Swift is praising Ryan Gosling’s Saturday Night Live monologue where Emily Blunt joined him to sing an “All Too Well” cover.
Gosling hosted the NBC late-night sketch show on Saturday, April 13, and attempted to break up with Ken, his character from Barbie. To express his feelings, he covered Swift’s song “All Too Well,” reminiscing about his experiences playing the character in the Greta Gerwig-directed film.
“All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version)!!!” Swift posted on Instagram, sharing Gosling and Blunt’s performance from SNL. “Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on your. This monologue is everything.”

What are Taylor Swift‘s very best songs? Scroll down through our countdown of her greatest hits. Does your favorite make the cut? Do you agree with our pick for number-one?
Swift has been a music star for half of her life. She was only 16 when her self-titled debut was released in 2006. That country breakthrough was certified seven-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for its massive sales, and it earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. But it was her next album that exploded her career.

My original review of Taylor Swift’s Speak Now ended with this: “[It’s] an album that finds Swift getting a lot of difficult stuff right, and it makes it clear what she still needs to develop in order to refine her craft even further. That every song on the album sounds like a viable radio single should buy Swift another couple of years to develop an even more mature, less me-first-all-the-time perspective and, hopefully, to work with a vocal coach.”
Ultimately, it’s the broadening of Swift’s Pov as a songwriter and the refinements in her vocal technique that have made each of her subsequent albums so essential, and the same is true of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). The previously unreleased “from the vault” tracks expand the album’s narrative scope, and her more mature voice elevates most of its original songs.

Carrie Underwood is a mom of two boys. In 2018, the country artist opened up about her three miscarriages — and how music became “therapeutic” to her. That’s especially true of her 2018 song “Cry Pretty,” which was inspired by traumatic events in her personal life.

The 2023 Grammy Awards returned to the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening, and while Beyoncé made history by breaking the record for the most Grammy wins of all time, Harry Styles took home Album of the Year for his album “Harry’s House.” Styles also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
Beyoncé took home four awards, bringing her career total to 32 — enough to unseat composer Georg Solti as the winningest artist of all time. But this marks the fourth time in a row she’s lost Album of the Year. An astonishing fact for the Grammy record-holder.

Beyoncé already has 28 Grammys, and if she wins four more, she will become the most decorated act in the history of the music awards show. She’s nominated for nine honors, giving her a strong chance to surpass the record set by late conductor Georg Solti, who has won 31 Grammys.
A Supreme Journey
Diana Ross is on track to earn her second lifetime achievement award, but she’s still never won a competitive Grammy. That could change: The icon is up for best pop vocal album with her latest album, Thank You, marking her first nomination in 40 years.
Viola “Egot” Davis?
She’s got an Oscar, Emmy and two Tonys, and a Grammy could be next: Davis is nominated for best audiobook, narration and storytelling recording for her memoir, Finding Me. She’s got some competition though: Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Questlove also are in contention.

Taylor Swift delivered a passionate performance of “All Too Well (10-Minute Version)” on “Saturday Night Live” as she kept up the momentum behind Friday’s release of “Red (Taylor’s Version).”
Swift began the number with an acoustic guitar, which she discarded midway through the tune as she acted out the dramatic breakup scenario with more physicality. Swift and a few dimly lit musicians performed on top of a patch of autumn leaves and in front of a giant-screen projection of the “All Too Well” short film that she directed and released on Friday. Two backup singers joined her in the spotlight for the end of the song, which, unlike the fadeout on the recorded version, ended with an a cappella refrain of the “sacred prayer” outdo.

In this story, originally published in 2018, we spoke with the people who helped Swift make that breakthrough.

Miranda Lambert sets her new single “Dark Bars” to stark images of Nashville’s shuttered nightlife, an industry that has been struggling since both a deadly tornado tore through portions of the city in March and the onset of the coronavirus.
Filmed on location at bars that had closed for the night — or were still shut down because of storm damage or the ongoing pandemic — the lyric video underscores how much the nightlife culture relies on human connection. Without people jostling for space at the bar or holding court on a stool,...

Ahead of the July 24th release of her upcoming album, The Balladeer, Lori McKenna remotely joins host – and fellow musician – Chris Shiflett for the latest episode of his Walkin’ the Floor podcast. In a 45-minute Zoom session prefaced by Shiflett’s admission that he has “been obsessed with her music ever since [her 2016 LP] The Bird and the Rifle came out,” McKenna talks about her songwriting process, her reasons for staying in the same New England town where she was born, and how lacking a Southern accent was a disadvantage when she started recording.

In the video for “When You’re My Age,” singer-songwriter Lori McKenna is joined by her Love Junkies cohorts Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose along with producer Dave Cobb for an intimate glimpse into the recording of the track at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A. It’s the first cut issued from McKenna’s forthcoming album The Balladeer.
With upcoming graduation ceremonies and this weekend’s Mother’s Day celebrations in the offing, “When You’re My Age” would elicit an emotional reaction under even the best of circumstances.

Despite years of admirable effort, Nashville’s attempts to rock out can still tend to come off pretty hammy. Then you get something like “Mess With My Head,”a searing standout from Miranda Lambert’s seventh LP, Wildcard. Over sleek drums and noir guitars, the country queen unspools steamy psychodrama, singing about her mind as a luxury hotel suite open for 2 a.m. room service: “I know why I gave the keys to you,” she intones, before a chorus that sounds like Sheryl Crow under the influence of Hole’s Celebrity Skin.

It’s been three years since Miranda Lambert released The Weight of These Wings, a double-disc examination of the regrets, rebounds, and emotional resets that follow a divorce. At 24 tracks, the album’s running time gave her more than enough room to indulge her musical whims, from impressionistic Americana — a sound that nodded to the moody murk and woozy, water-colored production of Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball — to raw, rough-edged roots-rock. The result was a supersized record that didn’t consolidate her strengths as much as emphasize their full, unabridged scope.

Miranda Lambert teams with Maren Morris for a murderous revenge fantasy against a cheating partner in the new song “Way Too Pretty for Prison,” released on Monday. It’s the fourth track Lambert has offered from her upcoming album Wildcard.
Opening with an atonal squall and Lambert’s laughter, “Way Too Pretty for Prison” settles into a loping rhythm augmented by jagged shards of detuned electric guitar. Lambert plays the role of consoler, talking through a few scenarios with an aggrieved girlfriend who wants to go all “Goodbye Earl” on the guy.

She had been the label’s biggest draw for 13 years while simultaneously feuding with one of Braun’s off-and-on clients, Kanye West. Back when a then-unknown Colbie Caillat released her breakthrough song “Bubbly” in 2007, in a time when MySpace still walked the earth, she and her songwriting partner Jason Reeves didn’t know what to call the relaxed, acoustic pop song when they posted it to her gleefully decorated profile. So they just called it “folk.”
“We had no desire to be a specific genre at the beginning,” says Reeves, sitting at a Nashville coffee shop with Caillat, Nelly Joy and Justin Kawika Young — the quartet now known as the country band Gone West.

Nashville songwriters turned out in force on Wednesday afternoon to escalate the fight against four music-streaming services on royalty rates. Earlier this year, Spotify, Amazon, Google and SiriusXM/Pandora announced they would appeal a 2018 ruling from the Copyright Royalty Board — the government body that sets royalty rates for statutory licenses — that would see publishers’ and songwriters’ cuts of revenue rise by 44% over the next five years. The four services have disputed the decision and asked for a lower rate increase, rankling the songwriting community, which is especially taking issue with Spotify’s involvement.

Rita Wilson stares down her own mortality on the inspiring new single, “Throw Me a Party.” Wilson carries the buoyant tempo with her soft croon that seems to float above a pristine blend of piano, drums and guitar. The lyrics, cowritten by Wilson, Liz Rose and Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, reflect that balance with pain and resolve. “So when I’m gone throw me a party/You should dance as if I was there/Don’t be sad or be broken-hearted/Just send your voices up in the air.”

Country superstar Carrie Underwood claims "you can't cry pretty," but she still manages to do so in the music video for "Cry Pretty," the first single from her upcoming album of the same name. In the video, we see the American Idol winner performing the song on-stage while wearing the same glittery tear makeup she wore at the 2018 American Country Music Awards — but breaking down in tears when she's alone again. Despite the waterworks, though, Carrie looks characteristically gorgeous. (And we still see no sign of the face injury she warned might make her look different.) But as the lyrics attest, glamorousness doesn't negate glumness. "Oh no, you can't dress it up in lace or rhinestones," Carrie sings. "It don't matter if you're in a crowd or home all alone / Yeah, it's all the same when you're looking in the mirror / A picture of pain, so let it flow like a river.

Carrie Underwood announced today that “Cry Pretty,” her first studio album on Capitol Records Nashville, will be released on Sept. 14.
The album’s title track and lead single was released on April 11, and the singer performed it Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards in her first public appearance since suffering an injury that left her with a broken wrist and 40 to 50 stitches in her face (from which she seems to have recovered quite nicely). Also at the awards she took home her 14th Acm Award, this one Vocal Event of the Year for “The Fighter,” her duet with Keith Urban.
In addition to co-writing the single with Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, and Liz Rose (aka The Love Junkies), Underwood co-producing the album with writer-producer David Garcia.
Underwood says, “At this point in my career, I feel stronger and more creative than ever. I think you can hear that in this new album.
