- I know people compare me to Kate Moss a lot after that media hype started. But it's not that I'm trying to get her look, truly not. But I like what she's wearing and we seem to share taste to a certain extent.
- I'm English, definitely. I don't feel like I'm American in any way.
- [on her newfound fame] I'm very happy about it to be really honest! But I think it's as a result of being scrutinised because of the relationship that I'm in. If it was because of the work, it would be more justified.
- [on her style secrets] The secret is to know what you're doing. And then every other person will notice that you know. No matter what I'm wearing, I try to always make it look casually, but never arbitrary. Never ostentatious.
- Style is definitely a combination of place, occasion, surroundings, body and mood. And to be honest, I sometimes don't spare neither trouble nor expense. Fortunately, I can afford to do so now, but style doesn't mean you have to stick to all-brands-looks. The thing is, you can't buy style and you can only slowly learn it.
- Men's traditional view of sexiness isn't sexy. It shouldn't be so obvious: push-up bras and miniskirts? Sexiness, to me, is when people are comfortable with themselves.
- I've wanted to be an actress for as long as I can remember, and I can say I was almost born in the theatre. My mum went into labour while she was watching The Nutcracker Suite in New York - apparently I was kicking like mad.
- I think American men are more conscious of putting up a good impression. There's more of an earthiness to Englishmen. But Americans aren't afraid to come up and say, "Hi, I'd like to go out with you." Englishmen are far more sheepish about it.
- I went to an all-girls boarding school for most of my youth. We used to do stupid, fun girly things like pull tights over our faces and streak through the lacrosse pitch. And once I snogged the gardener.
- I'm a liberal at heart; I don't want to vote Conservative. I'd vote Green, but I know it's a wasted vote or whatever, but it's the only party with integrity. I'm not saying we live in a dictatorship, in a fascist regime, because that's really disrespectful to people who do live in countries that are.
- I don't wish ill on anyone. I genuinely am one of those people who want other people to succeed. It's not a conscious choice, it's just the way I am.
- (on Alfie (2004)) I actually liked that film. But maybe it was because I was falling in love [with co-star Jude Law] and having a magical time making it. And I loved working with Jude. He's an incredible actor and taught me a lot.
- Somehow, I always end up being scandalous even though I don't mean to. I just find it. If it's there, if there's something scandalous lurking, I'll accidentally walk into it.
- She [Edie Sedgwick] had this luminescence. You can't act that, you're either born with it or you're not. And I think Edie and Marilyn Monroe had that and that's it.
- Everything just happened in the wrong order. I did my first proper film [Alfie (2004)] where I met Jude and we got together, and then the whole celebrity thing happened before I had any films out. So there's nothing to overshadow the celebrity side of things. But hopefully with all the work that I've done this year, it'll just take the focus off what I'm wearing or my relationship or whatever.
- They [the press] want to make you look as normal and disgusting as possible. But I'm not going to stop. I refuse to stop living my life the way I want to live it. I'm 24 years old.
- It's happiness that makes you glow. Oh, and maybe a touch of fake tan!
- [on her role in Factory Girl (2006)] Edie Sedgwick was skinnier than I was, so director George Hickenlooper wanted me to lose weight. But I can't work that hard and not eat. He'd come and try to snatch bagels out of my hands.
- [on Tippi Hedren] She said that Hitch could be hilarious and had sides to his character that were wonderful. But she still bears a lot of resentment towards him because having made her career, he then completely destroyed it. Hitch giveth and Hitch taketh away.
- [on Alfred Hitchcock] Hitch was so controlling. But a crew these days wouldn't stand by and let it just happen. If a director behaved like that nowadays, there'd be a sexual harassment lawsuit.
- [on Tippi Hedren and Alfred Hitchcock] He had this clichéd ideal of a woman. He found this amazing woman who had never acted before and thought he could mould her. In his mind, he was creating the perfect woman - he even told Tippi what lipstick to wear. At first she adhered to it, unaware that it was not something that usually happened on a film set. Gradually, he became more and more obsessed with her. Tippi wouldn't play the game. When she refused to reciprocate and stuck to her own moral code, she became unattainable to him. And, of course, the more she became unattainable, the more he wanted her. You always want what you can't have, especially someone like Hitchcock, who had no self-esteem. The fact that he loved this goddess who shunned him confirmed all his worst feelings about himself. So he resolved to make her feel very uncomfortable - for instance, he would recite very crude limericks designed to shock her just as she walked past. He inflicted deep psychological damage on her. He wouldn't work with her after Marnie (1964), but he wouldn't let anyone else work with her, either. She was his, and if he couldn't work with her, then no one else could, either. By the time she was released from her contract after seven years, she had missed her window. You would feel complete resentment about that, wouldn't you?
- [on Johnny Depp] The truth is, if you're a man, it is a lot easier. I would love to be, you know, Johnny Depp - be a great actor and do great choices and be very private, I would love that.
- [on Johnny Depp] I had an amazing time working with Johnny Depp who is extraordinary. He is a true artist.
- If I never make another film, I don't care as long as I'm true to what I believe in, which is being kind.
- [2015] [on Cara Delevingne, who she has known for most of a decade] She's more together now, more grounded. But even as a young teenager she was this ebullient force, this magnetic presence. I'm not sure it's ever happened before that someone could move so seamlessly through different fields and achieve in them all. I kind of always thought you had to choose. But then most people don't have Cara's talent.
- [2010] I'm not a gym person. I used to be very sporty at school and I loved competitive sports, but it's hard for me to go to a gym and just run. I get bored very easily, so I have to find things that are more interesting. I could do with being more toned. It's small, but it's not firm. I think I've reached an age now where it's time for me to start working out a bit. I can't get away with it any more. I used to be able to get away with it. I was quite firm and quite tiny and as I hit 25, things started to change. Now I'm noticing more changes. You know, a top and bare legs at the back is not a pretty sight! I'm lazy and if I wear clothes, it's hidden well. I do [try and resist] and then I make a joke that I should just stick it on my bum because that's where it's going. But I will then eat the chocolate cake and then I have definite insecurities about my body. I'm small but I'm not firm any more.
- [on cigarettes] I love them. Love them. I think the more positive approach you have to smoking, the less harmful it is.
