Star Wars fans wondered if Baylan Skoll would be recast following the death of actor Ray Stevenson, and we may now have our answer.
The season 1 finale of Ahsoka, "The Jedi, The Witch, And The Warlord," unfortunately, served as a farewell to the late Thor and Punisher: Warzone actor, who sadly passed away last May just before his 58th birthday.
Stevenson played a villainous former Jedi in the live-action Star Wars series, and the finale featured his last ever scene as the character, as we see the powerful Force-wielder standing on the ruins of a mountain-sized sculpture of the Mortis gods.
Skoll didn't have a big part to play in the events of the concluding episode, but Stevenson would undoubtedly have reprised the role at some point. Considering how important his character would appear to be to the ongoing story, there's been a lot of speculation that Baylan might be recast down the line,...

Disney+’s new lengthy trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka provides our first look at a live-action Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen provided the character’s voice in the animated Star War Rebels series and reprises his role in the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise.
In an interview with EW, Mikkelsen offered a short description of Thrawn.
“He’s a top strategist,” said Mikkelsen. “He’s always seven paces ahead of anybody else. And ruthless, of course. But only when it’s needed, actually. I think he thrives also with the creativity of the surroundings. I mean, he’s not using people in a bad way. He’s using their creativity to reach his goals.”
Rosario Dawson leads the cast in the titular role. The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.

Disney+ has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars” series, “Ahsoka,” providing fans a look at the series’ villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
It was announced in April at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention, that Lars Mikkelsen would be set to reprise his role as the “Star Wars” villain and embody the character in the live-action series. Thrawn was originally created by author Timothy Zahn as part of a series of 1990s Star Wars novels chronicling the events following 1983’s “Return of the Jedi,” and he quickly became a fan-favorite character.
However, after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, Thrawn’s character was removed from the official “Star Wars” canon. Then in 2016, Dave Filoni revived the character and brought him back into a galaxy far, far away after adding him to the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series. Throughout the show, Mikkelsen voiced the character.

“Ahsoka” — the live-action “Star Wars” series starring Rosario Dawson in the title role of Ahsoka Tano — is the next live-action series coming to Disney+.
It’s based on a character writer and executive producer Dave Filoni created 15 years ago. Judging by the thunderous applause at the recent Star Wars Celebration, Ahsoka is a fan-favorite who will only grow in popularity with this upcoming show. Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy also serve as executive producers.
Who is Ahsoka?
Ahsoka is a character created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni for the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the subsequent animated series of the same name that ran from 2008-14 and for one final season in 2020. Lucas had wanted Anakin Skywalker to have a padawan of his own, thus Ahsoka was created. She was trained as a Jedi, but she broke away from the Order. And we all know what happened to Skywalker.

Westworld Season 3 Episode 8
Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), at the end of “Passed Pawn,” entrusted Caleb (Aaron Paul) with the task of seeing her plan to fruition. She told him that she was no longer important, that he was the figurehead, the rallying cry, the person behind which the mobs would form to shake the foundation of the world, and since she released Incite’s closely-held personality profiles on everyone, the divergence from Serac’s grand plan has only spread further. Dolores, the artist, was never one to see the ugliness in the world around her, only the beauty. There is a certain beauty in chaos, like the colorful craziness inside a kaleidoscope, that can only be seen from a macro level. Dolores can see the world for what it is, and she’s willing to end it by any means necessary, to offer humanity a chance to build something new,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Westworld” Season 3, Episode 6, “Decoherence.”]
An eye-rolling tease and a sigh of relief define Episode 6, “Decoherence” — a drawn-out hour of due diligence on behalf of writers Suzanne Wrubel and Lisa Joy, where characters do what they must to set up what’s next while slogging through the pedestrian tasks of the present. Maeve (Thandie Newton) is resurrected, as we all knew she would be; William (Ed Harris) sorts his demons and is set free; Charlotte/Dolores 2.0, meanwhile, gets the most development and the most to do — obeying Dolores Prime’s directives by saving Delos’ designs from its new owner, Serac (Vincent Cassel) while still committing to the family she shouldn’t care about, only to lose them anyway — and Tessa Thompson again makes the most of it.

Westworld Season 3 Episode 6
I’ve seen a lot of properties where there are two twins who share the same screen: Adaptation, Parent Trap, The Social Network, Blood Rage, The Patty Duke Show, and so on. It’s an old trick by this point, having perfected way back in the black and white days and only further refined in the decades since. With the advent of computer graphics, seeing William (Ed Harris) walk into a room full of other versions of himself (including a returning Jimmi Simpson) with James Delos (Peter Mullan) as therapist and mediator shouldn’t be such a surprising visual, and yet, it is.
Ed Harris, still wearing his asylum whites, walks into a gathering of versions of himself. There’s a child version, detailing his sob story about being raised by an abusive alcoholic; fresh-faced William (Simpson) playing the hero; the tuxedo-clad...

When the first season of “Jessica Jones” premiered nearly two and a half years ago, the Netflix/Marvel universe felt shiny and new, and fans relished the possibilities behind this bold new take on superhero storytelling.
But now in the year 2018, after slogging through a second season of “Daredevil” that felt inessential, “Iron Fist” (no explanation needed), and the ultimately disappointing “The Defenders,” our excitement level for a new Marvel season — even a follow-up to arguably the very best Marvel season produced so far — is a bit waning.
That said — damn, is it good to be hanging out with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) again. In Season 2, the P.I. with superpowers remains vulnerable to bullets as well as the consequences of her bad choices. And while the narrative surrounding her takes too long to find cohesion, it still results in a searing, in-depth character study not normally expected from this genre.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for the “Counterpart” Season 1, Episode 6, “Act Like You’ve Been Here Before.”]
When a show starts off establishing a world with an entire parallel existence, there aren’t many other places to go to shock an audience. But at the end of Episode 6 of “Counterpart,” the show delivered its most seismic twist so far.
An hour that saw the brutal end of jovial undercover Alpha butcher shop owner Heinrich, the true identity of Alexander Pope’s man on the inside, and some creative use of pangrams also brought the series’ most mysterious character into focus. Turns out that Clare, the middle-class supermarket shopper also doubling as an envoy for Baldwin the assassin, is actually the wife of Peter Quayle, Director of Strategy for the series’ inter-reality spy agency.
In the waning moments of the season’s sixth hour, Quayle (Harry Lloyd) finally puts the pieces together, realizing that the search for the mole inside Strategy has led him the one person he never suspected.

Manhattan, Season 2, Episode 7, “Behold the Lord High Executioner”

“His acting has definitely improved.” – Fritz
After last week’s “33” efficiently set the table for the last few episodes of the season, “Behold the Lord High Executioner” goes back and grabs the loose threads of Jim’s storyline and starts to wrap them around his throat. For most of the episode, it plays as a spy thriller worthy of The Americans. Unfortunately, Manhattan‘s writers decide to end the episode by making Jeannie do the dumbest thing in the world just so she can get grotesquely bludgeoned on the head and Jim can become officially unlikable.
One of the best things about Manhattan is its consistently complex portrayals of its ostensible heroes and villains. For instance, Frank is a dick, except for when he...

The miniseries saga of Don, Betty, Roger, Joan, Peggy and Bert deserved a terrific finish, and at the end of seven plus one seasons, creator Matthew Weiner delivers in fine style. The agency undergoes a major transformation, but each of our favorites moves on to a thoughtful, better-than-acceptable resolution -- all except for Don. This review contains spoilers.
7.10 The Forecast
What happens next? Don Draper was canvassing opinion in this week’s future anxiety-themed episode of Mad Men, and failing to find a satisfying answer. While 1970 America was asking itself what the new decade meant, its fictional analogue in the sharp suit was staring out of a window pondering the same question.
No matter who Don asked to do his “what we want from the future” homework, nobody could provide him with a good enough answer. The man signing million dollar cheques and sitting in an office decorated with awards scoffed at their material dreams of bigger accounts and personal fame. “And then?” was his repeated refrain. When you’ve got the dream job, made the cash, bought the Jaguar or the Hershey...

Orange Is the New Black, Season 2, Episode 10: “Little Mustachioed Shit”
Written by Sian Heder
Directed by Jennifer Getzinger
Released Friday, June 6 on Netflix Instant
How do you get what you want when the game is rigged? When the power is all out of your hands?
“System work you, you got to find a way to work the system,” says Vee offhandedly to her new, loyal cronies, and although it’s not like a big issue is made of it, they are certainly buying into that answer of hers hook, line, and sinker. They rule the prison these days getting extra waffles, cuts in line, and unrequested back massages, all because of their illegal contraband. To them, they have certainly “won.” But this is an absorbing episode, almost Game of Thrones-like in its exploration of the system from many angles, plus all the different ways one can buck it.

Masters of Sex, Season 1, Episode 9: “Involuntary”
Written by Noelle Valdivia
Directed by Jennifer Getzinger
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on Showtime - The most noteworthy aspect of “Involuntary,” as it relates to Masters of Sex‘s long game, is its redemptive take on Estabrooks Masters. As played by the great Ann Dowd, Estabrooks displays a heretofore unseen openness about matters of sex and sexuality that mirrors her son’s, while making clear that she has no illusions about her own failings as a parent. It’s an unexpected but not entirely inorganic character pivot that feels very much in keeping with the series’ fondness for unconventional depictions of period characters. - That pivot is one of the more successful elements of “Involuntary,” a hit-or-miss hour that offers a handful of strong moments, alongside a few significant missteps. In one key scene, the series’ flaws and virtues are both on...

Masters of Sex, Season 1, Episode 4: “Thank You For Coming” Written by Amy Lippman Directed by Jennifer Getzinger Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on Showtime -
Despite the wink-wink, nudge-nudge titling, “Thank You For Coming” is likely the gravest episode of Masters of Sex yet, concerned as it is with male abuses of power and privilege (not to mention outright physical abuse). The best thing the series has going for it right now is that it’s able to pursue its themes in multiple directions – even through the spectrum of a single character.
Take poor William Masters, for instance. This week, we meet his mother Estabrooks (Ann Dowd, who you might remember from being incredible in Compliance) for the first time. Before her arrival, “Bill” warns that having her around will be a nuisance and a half. When she actually turns up, she’s far more self-sufficient than he’d made her out to be,...

Film directing is a field seemingly dominated by males. Despite making up roughly 50% of the population there has only ever been four women nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director, and only one winner. One win in 87 tries doesn’t exactly feel like fairness, and it isn’t just “prestige pictures” that women are being shut out of. Nearly every big-budget studio movie is directed by males; even the female skewing movies The Hunger Games, Sex and the City, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and the very recent The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones were all directed by males. The one time a female gets to direct a big-budget movie is for Twilight, and even poor Catherine Hardwicke got taken off the bigger-budgeted sequels.
More and more we are seeing women directing TV shows, which is a good sign due to the increased interest and praise of television...

Mad Men, Season 6, Episode 11: “Favors”
Written by Semi Chellas and Matthew Weiner
Directed by Jennifer Getzinger
Airs Sundays at 10pm Et on AMC
The final ten-minute stretch of “Favors” consumes everything that came before it. A tender scene between Pete and Peggy, undercurrents of war and disfigured mice, they all scatter as Sally drops the doorman’s keys to the floor. Angles and approaches, ways into the episode are tainted by that moment. The discussion Don and Arnold share concerning the innocence of youth, how children make the best soldiers because they’re unaware of their own mortality, suddenly seems to presage this moment—a daughter instantly dispelled of all illusions pertaining to her father.
There have been many echoes of previous episodes ringing through the halls of season six. Sally’s realization clearly recalls the moment she witnessed Megan’s mother going down on Roger Sterling. She understood...
