Friday started off with a bang as the cyber world was thrown into turmoil. With airlines in the United States facing communication issues with the Faa and major airlines grounding operations worldwide, it seemed like the world was on the brink of disaster. Screens at airports turned blue, Fids systems crashed, and chaos reigned as the systems that were meant to protect us from hackers inadvertently caused more harm than good.

The culprit behind this mayhem was CrowdStrike, an American cybersecurity firm whose update caused a domino effect of outages and disruptions. Microsoft also found itself in hot water as machines running ‘CrowdStrike Falcon’ were affected. While all this was going on, the narrative took a lighter turn when one of the episodes from Steve Carell’s Space Force series, courtesy of Jimmy O Yang’s genius, caught viral fire.

The Office completely revolutionized the mockumentary-style sitcom genre. The show, which was adapted from the same-titled British series, debuted in 2005 and ran for nine seasons. However, despite having a sizable fan base that continued to this day, the show had its fair share of embarrassing moments. One that specifically features Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) at the forefront.
John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer in The Office || NBC
The duo was an embodiment of couple goals on the show. However, some of their earlier interactions on the show might raise concerns. In one particular scene in question, Jim was blamed for crossing a major line. But was he the only one at fault?
Jenna Fischer’s Pam Under Fire for Playing the Victim in a Particular The Office Scene
The hit show ended in 2013, but several scenes and plots are echoed by fans even to this day.

In the fourth installment of the Despicable Me franchise, Gru (Steve Carrell) is officially a dad thanks to Gru Jr., who’s intent on tormenting him. However, peaceful family bliss soon comes grinding to a halt when criminal mastermind Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) — and yet another archnemesis — escapes from prison and vows revenge against Gru.
It’s potentially the challenge of a lifetime to write a compelling, nay in any way descriptive, review of Despicable Me 4. If you are reading this and haven’t yet seen the movie, or even a single second of its latest trailer, you already know exactly what you’re about to read. The almost-cast list for the character of Michael Scott on The Office (US) is long and illustrious. In the run up to filming the remake’s pilot episode, Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk was in contention for the part, as were Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti and Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. US comedy stars Patton Oswalt, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson and more all were auditioned (see the evidence here), before Steve Carrell made the role undeniably his own.
Another name to add to that already starry list? Ricky Gervais.
The Office co-creator and star was quick to rubbish the idea, as he told British TV producers Peter Fincham and Jon Plowman in a 2021 episode of BBC comedy podcast What’s Funny About…, but was apparently offered the remake’s lead role in very early discussions. Gervais described getting his first phonecall from US producer Ben Silverman about a potential remake, and...

NBC's "The Office" may now be considered one of the most beloved sitcoms in television history, but when the network first announced its plans to produce an Americanized version of the critically acclaimed BBC series, the reaction from fans of the original was far from joyous. Ricky Gervais and Stephan Merchant's "Office" was spiky and profane in a way that network shows simply couldn't be (thanks to their companies' Standards and Practice watchdogs). It was also narratively compact, running a mere two seasons and 14 episodes (counting the two-part Christmas special), which kept the show from getting stale. Most of all, it just felt kind of perfect (which Gervais proved when he tried to revive the series himself). A U.S. rendition stretched out over 20-plus episodes per season was bound to pale in comparison.

Few sitcom characters have become more firmly entrenched in pop culture than Steve Carell’s Michael Scott on the American version of “The Office.” But modern television history could have been altered forever had the casting process broken slightly differently. After the likes of Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti turned down the role, producers also considered casting Bob Odenkirk as Michael Scott. But the “Better Call Saul” star, who later went on to appear in an episode of the show, is at peace with how it all played out.
In a recent appearance on the “Office Ladies” podcast, hosted by “The Office” stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey (via The Hollywood Reporter), Odenkirk reflected on losing the iconic role. Rather than be bitter, he explained why Carell was a better fit than him to play the famously bumbling boss.

Our top pick for an awards contender to stream this week, crime drama “The Bikeriders,” has some names attached to it that have been in the conversation in awards seasons past. It stars Emmy and Tony winner Jodie Comer and Academy Award nominees Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Michael Shannon. Moreover, it’s written and directed by Jeff Nichols, whose previous film, 2016’s “Loving,” earned Ruth Negga an Academy Award nomination. While “The Bikeriders” looks more likely than not to miss out on major awards this year, don’t count Comer out yet in lead actress races. She is excellent in the film.
“The Bikeriders” is set in the midwest in the tumultuous years of the mid-to-late 1960s, and follows the rise and fall of Johnny Davis (Hardy), the founder of an outlaw motorcycle club, as seen through the eyes of his protegé’s wife, Kathy Cross (Comer). The club...

Bob Odenkirk has a healthy outlook on being runner-up for a once-in-a-lifetime gig as the regional manager at a small paper supply company on The Office, as well he should — if Odenkirk spent a decade at Dunder Mifflin, he probably wouldn’t have ever gotten that law degree.
More than most sitcoms, The Office (U.S.) has a whole hypothetical culture surrounding the “What if?” casting decisions that led to a collection of mostly unknown actors making their big breaks on the lauded NBC sitcom, thanks, in large part, to the many surviving audition tapes of the also-rans. The online and active Office fandom is constantly theorizing what the show would have looked like if Seth Rogen landed the role of Dwight instead of Rainn Wilson, or if Kathryn Hahn beat out Jenna Fischer for Pam, possibly to play out the famed will-they-or-won’t-they romance plot line with Adam Scott’s Jim.

Bob Odenkirk has an idea of why Steve Carell ultimately landed the role of Michael Scott in The Office over him.
The Emmy-winning actor, who was a frontrunner for the lead role in the beloved sitcom, recently appeared on the Office Ladies podcast, where he chatted about the show as well as his decision to transition to more dramatic roles.
“I am, in a strange way, a very earnest person for a person in comedy,” Odenkirk explained to hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played Pam Beesly and Angela Martin, respectively. “I am oddly earnest, and … it’s one of the reasons I think Steve Carell is a better, you know — is the one who got the role [in The Office].”
“There were other parts that I think I was up for that Steve got, and it’s because he’s better at being genuinely fun,” the Better Call Saul actor continued.

Phyllis Smith is a low-key actress. Even after being cast in the famous series The Office, she now lives quietly, with no desire for fame or the media. However, voicing a character in one of Pixar’s films seems to be the complete opposite.
Sadness and Joy in Inside Out 2 (Pixar)
With the great success of Inside Out in 2015 and the long-awaited sequel having premiered in June this year, it was expected that she would have to change her plans and see herself in the spotlight again. As it turns out, she seems to have been quite determined not to give up the “retired” acting career she was pursuing.
Phyllis Smith’s Genius Strategy Still from The Office (NBC)
Despite her resounding success as the character Phyllis Vance in The Office, as well as the critically acclaimed Netflix series The Oa, Phyllis Smith is not such a well-known actress in the industry.

Steve Carell’s choice of the ultimate ‘rizz’ king of Hollywood might hurt some Tom Holland fans. The 28-year-old actor will probably be jealous of 43-year-old Ryan Gosling, who earned the title from Carell. Gosling and Carell earlier worked together in the romantic comedy film, Crazy, Stupid, Love.

It’s not just Maxime Le Mal, the “Despicable Me 4” villain with the broad accent, that has a distinctly French flavor.
In fact, Universal and Illumination’s animated franchise boasts Gallic DNA throughout all of the hit movies. And even though Chris Renaud, the Oscar-nominated director of the latest “Despicable Me” and two of its predecessors, owes his French-sounding name to his Canadian origins, the helmer says “essentially everybody” working on the films is French. The only exceptions to this geographic over-representation are the writers (Mike White and Ken Daurio) and some of the storyboarder artists who are U.S.-based.
“Everything from what we call the layout, up through the animation, lighting and compositing — almost the entire team is French! The picture that you see is all compiled and created here in France,” says Renaud, who moved to Paris in 2010 to work on the first “Despicable Me” production...

Will Ferrell reunited with his “Anchorman” co-star Christina Applegate on an episode of the latter’s “Messy” podcast, where the duo reflected on the 20th anniversary of their comedy classic. Ferrell remembered the first test screening for “Anchorman” and how it did not go according to plan.
“It was such a hard movie to get made in the first place and when it finally came around to when, ‘Oh wait, now Dreamworks wants to make it,’ it just felt like we were playing with the house’s money,” Ferrell said (via IndieWire). “So we were like, ‘Ok, gosh, they’re letting us make this crazy movie. John Krasinski’s If will be available on digital sooner rather than later with a DVD and Blu-ray release in August.
If may have had a slow start at the global box office, but John Krasinski’s charming family film eventually proved to have long legs as audiences fell in love with the world of imaginary friends.

The adventures of little yellow men and their lovable leader, Gru, helped Despicable Me and Universal create an unparalleled run at the box office. Every movie to date has taken home at least $250 million in the US. Minions: Rise of Gru made the most money of the franchise hits to date, topping $370 million domestic and spawning the “Gentleminions” phenomenon.
Whether Steve Carrell was the reason most people checked out the first movie is a question we’ll ask for years. Regardless, the comedy star has a bonafide franchise that continues to rake in the dough. With the sixth film in the franchise set to dominate the 4th of July weekend, it’s time for us to rank the series and see where Despicable Me 4 falls in the series.

The “Despicable Me” franchise began in 2010 with the first animated film from creators/writers Sergio Pablos, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. The story focuses on a former supervillain turned secret agent named Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), and his adorable yellow sidekicks, the Minions. The original movie raked in $251.7 million in the United States alone, and $543 million total worldwide. Because of that breakout success, Universal Pictures and Illumination wanted more, more, more. Hence, there have been three “Despicable Me” direct sequels plus two spin-offs, “Minions” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
