Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are husband and wife, and despite being married since 2022, the couple still used an intimacy coordinator on the set of the series A Gentleman in Moscow.
McGregor revealed in a recent interview why having an intimacy coordinator on the set was important while filming sex scenes for the series.
“It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera,” McGregor told Radio Times. “If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle.”
The actor also noted the importance of intimacy coordinators, especially now that his daughters Esther and Clara are also actors.

The series spans years of time as he lives there alone and meets new people, all the while watching some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the doors. Pop quiz: You’re a filmmaker. You’re making a zombie movie. The crew is … let’s be charitable and say “adequate.” The budget is somewhere in the high three-figure range at best. Your main actor is a pompous diva. Even worse, your lead actress isn’t giving you the amount of bone-chilling terror that you require. The climax involves her character killing the hungry corpse — also the man she loved — who’s now trying to eat her flesh. If she can’t sell the sense of sorrow and the scares,...

When I first saw One Cut of the Dead, I didn’t think that in a couple of years’ time I would be watching a French remake of it, but here we are with Final Cut.
One Cut of the Dead blew me away when I saw it. Just the perfect original zombie movie, which, while it was well received, I do feel like it should have done even better and got more of a widespread audience. Remaking it such a short time later seems like a strange idea but getting renowned director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) definitely got some eyes on the movie that wouldn’t have been on it before it.

A trio of French films, the melodrama “A Family for 1640 Days,” political thriller “Goliath” and comedy “Adieu Paris,” are set to be released in the U.S. by the New York-based company Distrib Films.
Both Fabien Gorgeart’s “A Family for 1640 Days” (“Une vraie famille”) and Edouard Baer’s “Adieu Paris” are represented in international markets by Le Pacte.
“A Family for 1640 Days,” winner of the top prize at last year’s American French Film Festival, revolves around Simon, a six-year old adopted boy who is about to reunite with his biological father. The movie stars Melanie Thierry (“En therapie”) and Lyes Salem. Distrib Films is planning to release the film in early 2023 and have it play at festivals.
A love letter to the French capital, “Adieu Paris” marks the fourth directorial outing of actor-turned-helmer Baer, who last directed “Ouvert la nuit” in which he starred opposite Audrey Tautou and Sabrina Ouazani.

Algerian filmmakers have stepped up a campaign calling for their government to unlock promised state funds for cinema, warning that Algeria’s film industry is on its last legs following a near-year-long funding freeze.
Following on from a first open letter in June, the Collective of Algerian Cineastes has published a new letter addressed to Minister of Culture Soraya Mouloudji, re-demanding clarification on the government’s funding plans for cinema.
Algeria’s long-running Fdatic film fund was cancelled in December 2021 by Mouloudji’s predecessor Wafa Chaâlal.
The minister promised a replacement fund would soon be announced but nine months later no new scheme has been unveiled and successor Mouloudji has been equally unforthcoming.

The impending faux-marriage gains him the respect of the village, but the enmity of his sister who's secretly in love with his best friend. Check out the Algerian gem Masquerades (Tff 2009), screening this week at the Museum of Modern Art as part of the Global Lens series. Masquerades (Mascarades) is the story of the complex struggle between tradition and change in modern day Algeria. Mounir, played by director Lyes Salem, is a gardener with a narcoleptic sister Rym (Sarah Reguieg), whom he fears will never marry. Mounir finds her a wealthy suitor, but she has ideas of her own; she and Khliffa (Mohamed Bouchaïb), the eccentric town artist, are madly in love. What ensues is absolute chaos: sandstorms, car chases, scandals, and weddings, with a narcoleptic in the mix, all captured with beautiful cinematography and accompanied by vibrant music. Director Salem shows the complex role of women in Algeria throughout Masquerades. A amiable, boisterous comedy with touches of Ealing and Bend It Like Beckham, writes Peter Bradshaw
The Franco-Algerian film-maker Lyes Salem, a César-winner in France for his short film Cousins, now makes a feature debut with an amiable, boisterous comedy that has an exclusive run at the Ciné Lumière in London's Institut Français. Salem himself plays an irritable young man, who feels enraged that his sister is not yet married: her medical condition of narcolepsy is turning him into a laughing stock. He is heartlessly indifferent to the fact that it could be depression that is exacerbating or even causing her condition. Moreover, his sister is conducting a secret romance with Salem's friend, a dopey video-store clerk who is enraging her with his timid reluctance to declare his love. So to spur him into action, she claims to have had a sensational offer of marriage from a wealthy outsider, an offer Salem knows is false,...
