All the road closures planned for RideLondon races

Cyclists are set to race through Essex, London and parts of Hertfordshire during the return of a prestigious two-wheeled event.

Up to 25,000 people will take part in the RideLondon tour across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, organisers estimate.

They warned of a long list of road closures to ensure the races could be completed smoothly.

But where could you expect to see delays during the event?

The riders will cycle across a 159km (98 miles) route leading them from Saffron Walden, Essex, to Colchester.

King Street and Market Square, both in Saffron Walden, will be closed between 04:00 BST and 14:00 to prepare for the start.

A diversion is planned on the A10 in Hertfordshire - between Royston and Ware via Stevenage - between 11:00 and 12:00.

To prepare for the finish of the race in Colchester, High Street and East Hill - between Queen Street and Brook Street - will be closed from 04:00 to 20:00.

There will be a series of rolling closures as the race continues on all days.

Saturday's installment of the race will see cyclists both start and end in Maldon, Essex, having travelled through parts of Colchester and Braintree.

In Maldon - Fullbridge, Market Hill and Upper High Street will be closed to vehicles between 04:00 and 20:00.

The A414 Maldon bypass will shut between 12:00 and 15:30.

To allow for the race starting in the Promenade Park, closures will be in place in Lower High Street and Mill Road between 10:45 and 11:15.

Three separate events are held as part of the RideLondon proceedings on Sunday.

They are the Essex 100, FreeCycle and stage three of the Classique.

Cyclists start on the Victoria Embankment, London, and ride out beyond Chelmsford in Essex, before returning to Tower Bridge in the capital.

The route will see them travel through central and east London, Epping Forest, Braintree and Chelmsford.

Organisers say there will be a host of closures and diversions, external in place across the journey.

They include at St James’s Park and Green Park from 06:00 to 18:00.

The A12 northbound in the boroughs of Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Hackney will be closed from 04:00 to 12:00, and southbound from 04:00 to 18:30.

In Essex, the M11, M25, A12, A120, A130 and A131 will be open as usual.
