No Gabriel Moreno or Ketel Marte in the line-up tonight for the Diamondbacks. Nothing to either decision according to Torey Lovullo, just a scheduled day-off, and with a left-hander starting tomorrow for Cincinnati, tonight seemed like a good time for it. As last night, this is a rematch of starters who faced each other during the road series between these two teams. though neither of them figured into the decision on May 9. Slade Cecconi (top) had the edge, allowing one run over 5.1 innings, compared to three over five for Hunter Greene. But the game was decided in the eighth, on Corbin Carroll’s RBI single, which took the D-backs to a 5-4 victory.
Would settle for a repeat of that here - just as last night ended up being a repeat of the one-run margin for Arizona when Jordan Montgomery faced Graham Ashcraft in Cincinnati. But I would prefer it to be a little more comfortable, and going better than 2-for-12 with runners in scoring psition would be a good start towards that goal. That said, it’s an area in which the D-backs have done significantly better than average: their OPS with RISP is .810, good enough for eighth in the majors, and 67 points above MLB average (.743). They are in exactly the same spot if you look at a runner on third and less than two out. I suspect our mind just conveniently forgets the times they execute in these situations.
