The population movements caused by the Greek Revolution between 1821-1830 left their mark on the new Greek state. The Greek Revolution can be seen as a breach with the past, in the sense of a partial transcendence of a sense of localism and a narrow view of the world in a limited geographical and cultural space. These movements contributed to the creation of the first urban centers which would be the future cities of the new Greek state, certainly smaller in relation to other counterparts in Europe and even the Ottoman area, but albeit larger than those of the Pre-revolutionary past. The Revolution, however, can also be interpreted as a continuation, as demographic changes took place late in the 19th century, continuing pre-revolutionary trends. Large population movements had taken place in the past, during Venetian and Ottoman rule, voluntarily or involuntarily, although perhaps not with such a significant impact. The new Greek state became a pole of attraction for Greeks from the Ottoman countries, and respectively many Greek citizens sought economic opportunities in Ottoman urban centers such as Izmir and Istanbul. The contacts between the two sides of the Aegean did not stop with the formation of the new Greek State in 1830, they continued until their final cessation a century later.

Struggling with “Dhrakonera” (=Dragonwaters): environmental change at an EH site within the Marathon “great marsh” by the end of the 3rd millennium BC The Kato Souli-Schinias archaeological record is empirically linked to long-lasting questions addressing social change and en- vironmental adaptation in human societies. Excavation undertaken due to works in preparation for the Athens 2004 Olympic Rowing Center (hereafter ORC), unearthed EH contexts. This paper attempts to place data deriving from the small scale of a salvage dig, within successive contextual scales: comparison departs from the Marathon plain, to the EHII-III transition on the Hellenic mainland and in the Aegean and to the large scale of globally significant circumstances at the end of the BA. To this aim, site-specific archaeological stratigraphy, involving a loose cluster of EH houses and related ditches and pits in a wetland environment, is examined in cross-reference to the geological stratigraphy of the Marathon plain. It is argued that there is an observable human response to a rather abrupt environmental change. Questions are formulated within a methodological frame- work proposed to investigate the validity of possible links between this observation and the abrupt changes in BA cultures at the end of the 3rd millennium with an environmental event.

EN Phronesis, as evidenced by aristotelian and isocratic texts, which are, first of all, studied in this doctoral thesis, is the intellectual virtue of man to contemplate and to decide on particular situations of human life, based on sound logic and aiming at a prosperous life. It is a good of the soul, acquired through the experience and diligence of the individual himself and those who will teach him, based on the phronimou logic, how to foresee time, circumstances and events, in order to proceed to a corresponding decision at a time and execute an action accordingly. Subsequently, I study key positions for the teacher evaluation and professional development, as formulated through contemporary international and Greek literature. I therefore introduce a tabulation and analysis of the request of teacher’s phronesis as a whole and its implications in the field of professional development, based on the equivalence relationship that emerges. In particular, I examine the elements that make...
