LA Knight addresses fan concerns on recent WWE booking

The Megastar’s response comes as his presentation comes under fire from audiences.

LA Knight is the talk of the town in recent days, or at least WWE’s booking of The Megastar is.

Last week, Knight’s name came up a few times during Booker T’s Hall of Fame Podcast, where the former five-time WCW Champion talked about wrestlers losing momentum after coming up short in big match situations. There was also concern from Knight’s fan base when he didn’t appear as advertised on SmackDown, with his King of the Ring match against Santos Escobar moved from television to a live event in Chattanooga, TN.

Referring to Knight and Tiffany Stratton, whose Queen of the Ring match was also switched to the house show loop, a fan on social media wrote, “What a shame that 2 of the most popular names in each tournament were delegated to house show advancement to appease… Chattanooga?!?? We wanted TV matches!”

That prompted a response from Knight, who wrote back:

I appreciate everyone saying this match should’ve been on TV. But, no need to throw live event crowds under the bus.

Live events are where the @WWE roster has as much fun as possible.

Not only having a great match, but a match with HUGE stakes makes the live events more fun!

Knight signed off on his statement with a rocket ship emoji, perhaps to indicate that his push and presentation are going as planned in WWE.

In 2024, Knight has posted a winning record, according to The Internet Wrestling Database, which tracks the performances of countless pro wrestlers. Many of Knight’s wins have come against Solo Sikoa at live events. But in high-stakes encounters, Knight has been found wanting.

Though he avoided being the fall guy at the Royal Rumble, Knight was on the losing end of a Fatal Four-Way match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The following month, he was the second man in and the second man out during the Elimination Chamber match. In April, he defeated AJ Styles at WrestleMania but fell short in a rematch with Styles to determine a challenger for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed Title at Backlash.

Over the weekend, Knight stayed alive in the King of the Ring tournament after convincingly defeating Santos Escobar. His next opponent in the royal tourney is Tama Tonga. Based on WWE storylines and the bracketing for the men’s tournament, Knight might be the victim or beneficiary of outside interference related to The Bloodline’s feud with Randy Orton.

While Knight’s booking for the remainder of the tournament is expected to remain a hot topic, it’s worth noting that Cody Rhodes recently named Knight someone he’s interested in facing. While an encounter between two fan favorites has historically been a mixed bag, Knight could turn rogue if his woeful record in critical situations continues.
